It's Worst Singer In the World Thursday, MKF 1/30

Postby Dumbsaint » Thu Jan 30, 2003 8:16 am

So, I was watching my new favorite show, American Idol 2, last night and I found myself still giggling over the guy who did the wholly disturbing rendition of "Like a Virgin" on Tuesday's episode. And then I wondered what Simon would say to me if I got up there and sang. Because I can't either. Sing, that is.

But it got me thinking, what else am I just total and utter crap at? I can rattle off a few things quite easily. Heh. Dancing. Going a whole day without my foot wandering into my mouth. Fashion.

What about you? And what are Willow and Tara horrible at? Besides sharing my lack of fashion sense. ;)

:hmm Iam crap at a lot of things, but the most amusing thing is i cant read music to save my life:read , not to much of a problem you may think, but iam a musician!!! so it can be quite difficult:shock

I also am totally crap at cooking, I BURNT bake beans (not that i like them) :fallen

I think tara would be crap at being nasty, its just not in her nature, Willow of course would never be able to stop the babble, But who would want her to, i love it :clap

(the worst singers in the world is the cheeky girls!!! :puke )

Simon was interviewed on a lunchtime show here today, and they showed a couple of clips from American Idol 2. I do love that man. They showed the girl who thought she was Mariah Carey, and I have to say, I was in tears laughing. Although y'know, my ears were bleeding. Ahem.

One of my girlfriends thought she was a great singer and never shut up. Irritated the heck outta me, that did. Especially as her understanding of "key" was more to do with the thing you open the door with than something that's connected to music. Gah.

Then another of my girlfriends didn't realise she was singing horribly out of tune and insisted on joining in when me and my gayboys had a "Songs from the Shows" evening. Generally her contributions took the form of a barely discernably worded monotone. Rather like one of those boxes that used to moo when you turned it upside down...:lol

And then another girlfriend admitted that she had a really bad singing voice...but even her own amazing self awareness didn't prevent her from growling out some truly hackle-raising renditions of songs.:spin

Gah.

I get pissy about bad singing. I mean, if you're tone deaf then aren't there other things you're good at that you can do instead of subjecting me to eternal misery? :lol Luckily for me, I come from a family of good singers. I'm told that my great grandmother was an opera singer in her day. Yeah, well, that explains which side of the family I get my um...lungs from, I guess. ;)

But, talking about things that we're bad at; I'm a horrid artist. I can't draw to save my life. Even my stick men and women turn on me and look less like sticks and more like squiggles. I don't have that natural flair that some people seem to have when it comes to creating works of art. I can appreciate what good art is; I just don't have the first idea about how to do it myself. Bah.

And hey, just reading this post back to myself before pressing "add reply", I've realised that I'm also horribly truthful. Heh. Popular. Not.

As for Willow and Tara; I rather think they might have the little scenario that I had with my ex girlfriends. We know Tara can sing but honestly, I don't think singing was ever high on Willow's "to do" list. Heh. I bet on the occasions she feels the urge to belt out her favourite Britney number, she finds Tara's hand creeping over her mouth and those blue eyes turned on her, soulful and serious. And Tara will give a tiny little sigh and just shake her head, really slowly. "Honey, don't sing," she'll plead.

And then she'll find another, more fun way to shut Willow up. Hee. :)

well to be perfectly honest, I cannot cook. Not one little bit. I set the microwave ablaze when I made Easy Mac so i guess i better either marry a chef or get used to eating out. lol.

hmm, don't think Willow would be very good at sewing. She just doesn't seem like sewing would be for her. And I don't think Tara could be an Net whiz like Willow. But things work very well that way for them cause Tara can do the sewing and Willow can handle the computer stuff. :cool

I can't dance. I honestly cannot dance. I feel utterly and completely uncomfortable when I do and maybe that is why I end up dancing like, well, Willow and Tara. :p
I seriously hate it, except when I am being forced to and held close by a good looking naughty nurse. Sometimes you just have to compromise in life.

Oh lord, bad singers. :hmm Making mental note - if I ever see Ruth at a Kitten gathering, don't sing and if I do, hide the duct tape. :lol God, this is a list that could go pages long ... :whistle well my worst foibles are spelling and grammar. Why the hell do they keep changing the rules on when, and when not, to use a comma. :rage I've misplaced so many modifiers and split so many damn infinitives it's been suggested I contact Guinness - or maybe it was that I consumed too much Guinness.:shock All this in and of itself might not be too bad, but you see I like writing. I like to tell stories. Gee, I wonder if Ruth's feelings about bad singers also apply to bad writers. Hiding rolls of duct tape definitely a good idea. :jho

Tara and Willow? just can't picture anything other than wardrobe (where do they get that stuff - ycch) that they'd umm, err, be bad at.

You know, I was going to start this post with "WOW, a whole thread devoted to things we suck at," but got all :blush and thought I can't write that. :fallen :devil :blush

Cheers to Kitteny inperfections!!

And Ruth can answer it with her booby smiley. Hehe. It's all about the oral fixation, baby.

Hah! I'm a horrible singer--really, truly horrible. Both my parents are/ were terminally flat and tone deaf. My brother sings really nicely, so I guess he's some kind of a throwback. :hmm

I can dance pretty well, though, and actually took ballet/ jazz classes right up through college.

I'm not much of a cook, due more to lack of interest than skill.

I was okay with pencil sketching when I took classes, but drawing is one of those things where if you don't practice it, the skill deteriorates pretty quickly. I doubt if I could manage a stick figure these days, LOL! :D

There was one funny episode, back in season five, where the Magic Box had opened, and the gang was helping out. Willow was trying to gift wrap something, and she was all thumbs. By contrast, Anya seemed to have a natural flair for it. I think later in the same season, Tara confessed that computers are something of a mystery to her.

One interesting trend I've observed in a number of couples is that one party is often very good at something that the other party is completely useless at. It's almost as if people gravitate toward partners who sort of make up for their deficiencies. ;) I could definitely see W/T being like that.

Well I can't sing or dance either but what I really suck at is phoning people. I talk really fast and know people have a problem understanding me (after a couple of pints just forget it) so yeah, I usually avoid it if at all possible.

After last night though apparently I am now also crap at getting back from the pub ;) But I can get there so I'm content with that.

Well now. I can't cook to save my life, even burned microwave popcorn.

I am absolutely, without a doubt, the worst at anything electronic! I can't even work the damn satelite remote!

However, to compensate I have no problem going out for dinner or dancing until the wee hours. (the problem seems to be finding dance partners)

Now, I imagine Tara not being good at putting things together if it required more than one tool or one page of written instruction. Willow, on the other hand, might not do so well with...ok, so I imagine Willow good at everything! I'm biased. Sue me.

Oh Bloody Hell, Ruth.:spin

Don't be so self-depreciating.

You surely do have one artistic skill that we all know about and appreciate.

You are a consumate wordsmith. So there.

Whereas I cannot sing, draw, write or play the big trombone [or anything else]

I'm the epitome of mediocrity in all things altho' I'm very good at putting things off

Oh kathy; please. There are plenty of things I think you are wonderful at, but I couldn't possibly say what they are here in full view of everyone. Ahem.

Suffice to say; I'm also bad at remembering birthdays. And people's names. And appointments. I have to have like, huge flash cards all over the house to remember things. My house looks like a primary school classroom...

Oh, and this... :bigkiss just freaks me the hell out. It's like a whole head being swallowed up by a pair of lips...I know I'll be having nightmares about that tonight. :eek

I'm really crap at apologizing. Now matter how much I mean it I always sound insincere.:\

Im not very good at taking photos in fact many of my friends wont let me near their cameras, I always end up chopping off peoples heads and taking pictures of my thumb.

Err, you can add my name to the list of people who cant dance, although usually after several pints I think Im the worlds greatest dancer. :party

Today I have discovered that I am crap at driving in blizzards. It took me near an hour to drive the whole three miles from where I work to where I live.

Nothing is funnier than watching all the little gayboys onAI2 get all righteous and pissy. :rofl Diana and I watched this show for the very first time this past Tuesday whilst in the women's locker room at our health club. Here we are with about twenty other women in various stages of undress (or that were in the hot tub boiling themselves to down for soup stock) and we are all laughing uproariously at "Like A Virgin" boy and his absolute indignation at poor Simon. I felt for Simon, I really did. And he was actually being NICE to the child! :shock I don't think we could stop laughing until the show ended.

I've taken singing lessons a time or two and managed to somehow sing in group choruses in high school and college (can we say music geek?? I think we can :read ) but I wouldn't say that I'm remotely fabu. I can carry a tune. That's about it.

Julia, I have to give props to you for this thread. I don't think I've laughed this hard at work in a while!

I'm a fabulous dancer- when I'm drunk. I hope there's no video evidence to dispute this claim.
I'm also a great driver. I't's the other people on the road that suck.
It's also likely that other drivers will hear my my angelic singing voice at some point as I'm an avid car-singer (and dancer). The sideways glances and outright staring are signs of thier awe and respect.
I can cook. I just choose not to.
I am a good artist. Honestly.

I can't remember a name to save my life. Most of my conversations start with "Hey you. How are you doing. I haven't seen you in a while" etc.
I'm horrible a writing important information down. I figure if it's so important it's bound to come up again.
I'm terrible at coming off as sincere not matter how sincere I am. Everything I say tends to sound cynical but I am a cynic so there you go.

I think Tara would be great at getting away with anything/getting her way. Just bat her big blue eyes and everyone in her vicinity would instantly cave. It's like a superpower.

Putting American Idol aside for the moment, I would have to say I am really bad at budgeting time for the various day to day tasks.

I often lose time while reading or drawing while I should be doing those things that keep a house from turning into a hovel. Somehow I don't see Willow or Tara having that problem. I just get the impression that Tara would never neglect things that may affect others. She is too compassionate for that. I think Willow avoids this trap by sheer exuberance and a bottomless well of energy.

I'm also crap at getting out of bed. I've noticed a trend. The alarm goes; I get out of bed and turn it off; I get back into bed; I go back to sleep.

It really doesn't matter what I have to do. The allure of bed is overwhelming.

Hello Kittens-

I can still sing, but as I get older my range is getting narrower. tommo's inability to avoid going back to bed sounds too familiar. I also wish I could draw beyond squiggles. Lastly I'm a lightweight when it come to drinking AND a mean drunk (I'm told) so I don't.

I think Willow wouldn't be good at things requiring repeated physical work and not a lot of thinking (and the first thing that leapt into your mind DOESN'T count!) while Tara couldn't take a compliment from a stranger or manage people in a 'hard' style. I just can't see Tara firing anybody.

Thanks for the thread,

Jixer

Edited for spelling, yet another weak spot:blush

I can't, for the life of me, speak spanish. Which is a problem, as I take that class.

I also cannot dance. I usually end up falling before I even have a chance to move.
For that matter, I have trouble moving. Physical activity makes me either cough or fall. Usually both.

I also cannot win against my addiction to those Mrs. Fields cookies that they now sell, pre-wrapped, in bodegas.

Put me in the not-a-singer camp too. I'm not tone deaf, I can read music, but my range is about an octave plus 2. That's it. Add in that I can't remember words or song titles or artists and I'm an utter nightmare. I can sing Jingle Bells 'cause the tune and words are easy. I did so one midsummer while I was an assistant manager, oh, 7 years ago. My manager (and friend) Lloyd looked at me and just said: "Don't". Whenever I switch stores, he comes to visit and tells my staff not to let me sing. Nice guy. Really. :p

As for dancing....at least 2 left feet here.

I also really suck at public speaking ....

And meeting people. :blush So in Vegas, I'm the quiet, round Kitten over near the food. Expect me to be inarticulate or to splutter, 'cause I always do.

What am I utter crap at? Well, I cant sing or dance to save my soul, I cant cook very well and I also suck at drawing and most artistic pursuits. You know, it would probably be a shorter list if I had to record what Im good at instead of what Im not so good at.

I love American Idol , it's kind of sick lol. The more tears the better.

The Like A Virgin guy was soooooooooo bad lol it was soooooo great. And the Mariah Carrey girl :rofl , simon was so right on about her. These people deserve this sometimes cause god to get up there and sing, insanity. Narrowing it down to 32 was hard, some people were good, just not good enough.

I can't sing, but I love to sing, I just do it in my car with the windows rolled up. I am horrible.
