It's Spongebob Squarepants Tuesday MKF! 1/14/03

Postby tommo » Mon Jan 13, 2003 11:37 pm

So, I was thinking how utterly adorable the thought of Willow and Tara watching Spongebob Squarepants is. I imagined them curled up on the sofa together, with Willow giggling away at the show. Which is utterly cute, but also really kind of...well, I dunno. Odd. Hee. However, when I thought it was odd I then took at look at my own preferences in terms of cartoons and honestly, there wasn't anything in there that actually indicated I was an adult, heh heh.

So, we know that Willow and Tara watch Spongebob Squarepants. But what I was wondering is, what do the kittens watch in terms of cartoons? For myself, I'm pretty much old school I think. I have a hankering for Wacky Races, Scooby Doo and Top Cat. There's something insanely alluring about Penelope Pitstop. And I'll never forget the day in Wacky Races when she actually said "Oh poo..." :lol

Newer cartoons are alright, but they lack the integrity of the older ones, I think. Everything was so simple. You really could live in a garbage can in the street, and Officer Dibble really was indicative of the stupidity of the law. Heh. Ah, happy days.

So go for it; what do you watch? And just think, the more that you post, the greater my anxiety will be at the fact that my mother got rid of her cable channels, complete with Cartoon Network. Boo hoo. ;)

Oooh, and incidentally:Happy Birthday Petra!

Because it's today. :)

I am here to complain about having to work, lol. I hate getting up early.

I think that moment for w/t is so much of what I love about their relationship, they watched discovery channel and spongebob, it's wonderful, a fully fleshed-out relationship.

And yes, I love old school. I am a huge Bugs Bunny fan, love bugs and sylvester. I like Tom and Jerry. I can always watch that. New shows, I guess my favorite "newer" one is Dexter's Lab, love that show. I was addicted to Ren and Stimpy at one point in time.

would you believe me if i said i really liked she-ra when I was little? :p it was on at 3:00 right when I got home from 1st grade. I was also a big fan of Thundercats. I, too, am more an old-school cartoony gal than the newer stuff. Scooby-doo rocks, as do looney toons (kill da wabbit kill da wabbit!), tom and jerry and rainbow brite and carebears and transformers... of the newer cartoons, i like dexter's lab and power puff girls. but johnny bravo makes my ass twitch. i have no idea what saturday morning cartoons are like these days as i'm never up early enough to watch them. so i'm pretty much limited to cartoon network :)

oh, and the simpsons are great too, but they're barely a cartoon.

edited because i've been reminded of X-men and the flinstones and the jetsons!!! i guess there aren't really a whole lot of cartoons that i don't like. easy to please i guess :grin

Happy Birthday Petra!!

As for cartoons - I'm assuming we don't mean The Simpsons or Southpark type cartoons. Cause its hard to remember that they are.

I, too, am a cartoon watcher of the old school. Bugs Bunny kicks ass. Along with The Flinstones and The Jetsons. I also loved one called 'Hong Kong Phooey'. I don't watch too many these days. I liked X-Men and one called Max Somethingorother.

Unfortunately, I don't usually have the time to watch any of the decent cartoons anymore (lol - actually, I can never drag myself out of bed early enough on the weekends!) - except for the Simpsons, Southpark & King of the hill.

I used to be an avid watcher of X-men, Hong Kong Phooey (#1 super guy!), Jem, Captain Planet, Doug, Danger Mouse and a few others that I've forgotten the names of.

edited because I can't seem to spell properly this evening.

But - how could I forget Pinky & the Brain!! - and Fat Albert, Atom Ant, Beany & Cecil, 2 Stupid Dogs.....I watched way to many cartoons when I was a kid (and when I was at uni...)

Oh, I love Cartoons. When I was little I used to watch them all the time, it didn't matter what it was, as long as it was a cartoon.
Now I demand a little more than that it just have to be a cartoon. Fore example if it's too bad animated or the plot doesn't make sense at all, then I'll find something else to see.
I'm always good for a "Bugs Bunny" or "Tom and Jerry" cartoon, but I also like the wacky "Pinky and Brain", where two little mice try to take over the world, and I also like some of the 20 minutes Disney Cartoons like "Hercules" or the one with Donald Duck, where it's hard to hear what he says.
And then just a few years ago I watched "Prince Valiant" every morning. I dunno why, all my friends though I was mad, but I loved it.

I have the day off today, coz I'm skipping school, so I better go make some homework.

Have a lovely Tuesday everyone, and Happy Birthday Petra!

edited: to say that I too love Jem. I gave my best friend a cartoon with her when we were younger, and now it's cult for us. Our male friends hate it, coz we always put it on whenever we have a video-night:grin .

Cartoons, never too old for a good cartoon.

Personal favourites for me are Chorlton and the wheelies with that fabulous witch Fenella, Jamie and the Magic Torch and Battle of the Planets. All of which, upon relection, look as though they were made with some very serious narcotic help.

Also with the Hong Kong Phooey love and Bod. How anyone can get a great children's cartoon out of a yellow triangle and round head deserves praise indeed.

Oh dear heavens...BOD!

Do you remember Alberto and his Amazing Animal Band? I always used to guess chocolate or strawberry for the milkshakes. Heh. And you know what? You can get Bod on DVD now. My life is complete. Sigh.

Of course see, bringing up Bod reminds me of that whole spate of really odd British cartoons that were made. Plus the other kids' shows. The Clangers; Crystal Tips and Alastair; Mary Mungo and Midge, Bagpuss...

Oh god, the nostalgia. It's killing me.

Ah Ruth,
Bagpuss - my all time favourite, although when I see it these days [I got the video] it does bring a lump to my throat, I find it kind of maudlin, but perhaps it's just Oliver Postgates voice.
Oh yes dont forget the Clangers, Trumpton, Ivor the Engine, Noggin the Nog and more recently the whole Wallace and Grommit canon.

Happy days.

Staying on a TV note who saw Shooting Stars last night.... what the **** was going on. I know its anarchic and chaotic at the best of times, but hot on the heels of Buzzcocks it just seemed..... more than usual. What with Farscape too, by 11pm I did'nt know whether I was coming or going.:confused

I ofter wonder what our American friends make of Shooting Stars........:confused X 2?

Oh cartoons, I so remember getting up early on Saturday mornings to watch my favorite shows. Must admit I had a thing for the Smurfs (even had a huge collection of Smurf figures, which probably still exist somewhere in my parent's basement), loved the Jetsons, Mighty Mouse, big fan of Bugs Bunny, RoadRunner, and Scooby Doo. Don't really watch cartoons anymore, but I do find myself sometimes surfing channels, and happily landing on the cartoon network :) . Although, I guess the Simpsons fall into the cartoon category, which I do enjoy at times.

Edited to add I can't forget the Flinstones, I just loved Fred, Dino and Bam Bam :smash !

And have a very Happy Birthday Petra!

As for Penelope Pitstop didn't she just wear pink so well. I used to sit mesmerised, marvelling at her ability to run kicking her legs out straight. Hey-elp Hey-elp.....

Happy Birthday, Petra!

Cartoons? I fondly recall a few from my youth - despite b&w tv and only 3 channels available (plus the French station!). Bugs Bunny was the great standby for Saturday afternoons; it holds up pretty well over the years, too. Does anyone remember Rocket Robin Hood, Underdog, or that bizarre version of The Wizard of Oz where the munchkins looked like ambulatory Hershey's kisses? Lately, cartoons are becoming more CGI intensive - I really like Roughnecks:Starship Troopers Chronicles.

Speaking of space troopers, I'm just starting to recover from a Warhammer 40K tournament that I ran this past weekend. It went well, with 22 players having some fun games, and lots of prize support from the game manufacturer and local stores. I recommend running a tournament to anyone who's into gaming of any kind - cards, roleplaying, etc. It's a great way to foster your hobby. Just be warned that planning and preparation pays off! (BTW, People have asked when I'm doing this again - not until next year, thank you!)

Good morning everyone!
Ruth, as a kid, I loved the Wacky Races. Everyday before school, all my friends would come over and we wouldn't leave until the last race was over. One of my friends came up with an idea of us betting on the race. Nice huh...a bunch of 10-12 year olds gambling. I always picked Penelope Pitstop.
Even though I'm a big Mickey Mouse fan, I'd have to say that my favorite cartoon is Bugs Bunny. Especially the ones with Gosimer (the big hairy monster). I laugh every time Bugs is doing Gosimer's hair and says..."I was just saying that monster have such interesting lives" My kids call me everytime one of the Gosimer eps is on.
Well, it's off to work for me. Have a good day everyone.

Love to All,
Barb

I have found the ultimate cartoon!

Muffin Films

All of them are great, but my personal favourite would have to be 'Bluebirds in spring'.

Go and check them out...

I imagine Tara putting on muffin voices, just like she did with the grrr-argh monster. :grin And Willow's into quirky things like that..

Enjoy!

You crazy English kittens; I don't even know what "Wacky Races" are unless they're like the Laffalympics that I remember watching as a kid.

The thing I really liked, though was Schoolhouse Rocks, when it came on between shows. Especially the one about adverbs. I have the tapes now, but I can't get one single kid of my acquaintance to sit through even one part of speech.

Kids today.

Oh, and happy birthday, Petra!

It really is fantastic!! I must say I love the one called 'Feed Me' although the one you said is great Mellie :D

Whoever made them is very creative and should receive a huge pat on the back...uh huh... very...

oh..... speaking of cartoons..... I took this quiz today (by forcing of a friend of mine) and it happened to be about 'what cartoon character are you?' and that seemed oddly fitting somehow....

apparently.....I was Peppe le Pew... and they made a special point to mention that it was without the smell..... neh! who knew!?

but, really, you should try it out...it's not that bad :)

GREAT TOPIC RUTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not technically a cartoon, but does anyone else remember a UK kids' TV show called Number 76 or something similar that had a girl on roller skates?

My sister (only a year younger than me) and my gf (only 16 months younger than me) can't remember it all, and I only can slightly.

Perhaps I imagined the girl with the roller skates... that is the kind of thing I would do...

I used to watch every cartoon going, from Bugs Bunny to Flintstones, He-Man to Animaniacs, absolutely anything at all. At school I'd draw Garfield, Snoopy and Mickey Mouse all over my maths books! I wanted desperately to be a cartoonist. I haven't changed much now, I watch avidly "Pokemon" in it's various forms (Go Pikachu!) and love the new cartoon "Hamtaro" (our house just got invaded by lots of these in cuddly toy form, finally, hamsters I can't be allergic to!) And I got way too recognised in our local Warner Bros store for my Animaniac buying! I have a Pinky & The Brain mouse mat! And although I never became the cartoonist I dreamed of, I now draw cartoons on the messages I leave for my colleagues at work! One takes them home for her son! Gotta love cartoons!

Oh, mine would have to be Yosemite Sam. Something about the fiery little guy packing 45's. He's my all-time favorite.

The others lost to childhood would have to be the smurfs, Thundar the Barbarian, He-Man, Wacky Races and Hong Kong Phooey.

Last but not least, was a cartoon that came on in the afternoons. It was like a cartoon soap opera. Starblazers! I loved that cartoon. I think it was one of the first Japanime type toons for us.

Happy birthday Petra! Here's to wishing you a year full of rubber duckies, stupendous spoon-bending asses, smoochies, and other happy things. ;)

Wow, cartoons. It's kind of impossible these days to find most of my favorites, which included but are not limited to the Smurfs, the Snorks, My Little Pony, the Gummi Bears, He-Man, She-Ra, Ducktales, the short-lived and very silly Punky Brewster cartoon, and Strawberry Shortcake. And good god, Jem. Hee. I think I still have a cassette tape somewhere of Jem and the Rockers. I fancied myself a budding musician all through my childhood and on into my first year of college, and it may very well all be rooted in Jem. Heh. I know it's not a cartoon, but I really loved Fraggle Rock as a kid, too.

These days I'm not much for cartoons, although I did like the newish Batman one and watched it every once in a while back in college. Ooh, but I am particularly fond of Homestar Runner 'toons. Strong Bad is my hero. :love
