Excuses, Excuses Thursday MKF 1-16-03

Here I am, at home, again. There is approximately one inch of snow on the ground with maybe a very tiny bit of ice under that and they decided to cancel school. Sounds like someone just didn't want to go, to me.

So for today - What is the lamest, stupidest excuse you've ever used to get out of school or work? What kind of excuses do you think Wilow and Tara would have used? (Other than the volumey texts, of course).

Have a good day, and if you did get some real snow drive carefully!

Oh gods, they have all been lame.

After we were married my wife and I came up with a new one a week to blow off work. I don't think my boss ever believed any of them.

Let's see. Garage door frozen shut, car could start (a classic), missed my train.

Now of course she is in higher mangement and I teach again so it has been like three years since either of us has blown off work, even when we are really sick.

Sometimes being an adult sucks.

Ah, to blow off work. I found that anything with the kids has worked wonders. Parent teacher confrences, illness. My ex g/f was feeling a bit amorous one day and called up and said that she was the school nurse and that my daughter was running a fever. The funny part is that my kids were on vacation with their dad when this happened. But I didn't want to say "Oh by the way, there is a great looking girl waiting for me at home, mind if I leave a bit early?"

Hey whatever works.

Love to All,

I'm hopeless with excuses. I tend to go into full-on babble mode, which just makes me look highly suspicious. Even when I'm actually telling the truth.

My usual excuse for blowing off work is a migraine. Unfortunately it's the most popular excuse used by skiving employees across the country. I'm just so unoriginal :)

I did use a fake broken tooth once as an excuse to get the afternoon off work. That one worked a treat, I can highly recommend it.

Oh and while I'm here...

Happy Birthday Molly!

Ah excuses.
Usually it's me who has need of them but my so-called superiors at work have really been inventive when it comes to denying me equipment.
5 years ago [yes that far away] I put an indent in for a laptop, arguing that it would be invaluable in my job in terms of time saved, economies etc etc.
all well and good, top of the list etc. Then I notice everyone else getting them, but not me so........

'Oh it will be with you within a week' [1998]
'the head of department needs a replacement, so he's had it' [1999]
'you want to take it out of the office, which means it will be unsecured' [2000]:eyebrow
'you might get it wet' [2001]
'you might drop it' [2002]

and now.... 'you can't have one, cos we are 're-evaluating' the need for mobile computing in the light of cost-benifit analysis and efficiency' [2003] :hmm

but then........:party 'oh, all right then, no-one else wants them anyway, whats the big fuss?' AArgh!

blah..I have to much of a work ethic to call in. Then again it's usually me and one other person, and the other person is screwed if I do...

the best non-made-up excuse for not going to work that i ever had was one time when the electricity at my parent's house was out, and the car was stuck in the garage and i couldn't figure out how to manually open the garage.

my fake excuses are pretty run-of-the-mill. in the winter, the car not starting excuse is pretty good. the other day, i needed to study, so i called the woman i babysit for and told her that i had the flu. unfortunately, i then started to come down with a cold. luckily the cold lasted just that one evening. now i'm mostly better :)

'Scuse me for hijacking this thread, but I could use a little of those patented Kitten good thoughts. Fortunately, praise deity of your choice/knock wood, it's not any kind of medical emergency.

A play I've written is going to be featured as a world premiere in the 2003 Tennessee Stage New Play Festival this March. (That sound you hear is me beginning to panic).

I'm going to Tennessee this weekend for the casting of the play. It'll be the first time I'm on the "other side of the table" for auditions in any capacity, let alone as the author.

So keep a good thought. Wish me actresses as talented as Aly and Amber (by coincidence, there are a couple of parts I could see them playing, but lets leave that to my writer's fantasies).

Thanks, all.

Never used this but saw it on a t-shirt and thought it was very funny.
I ran out of sick days so I'm calling in dead.

The best excuse i ever heard was a version on the kind of cartoon excuse of "the dog ate my homework, this one however happend when i was in a maths class, and a teacher walkeed in and was so amused that she had to tell us about it.
In her hand she held a bag with what looked like shreaded bits of paper, there was a note with it signed by a persons mum, and it said "Jamie wont be able to hand his homework in, due to the fact that the hamster ate it"!!!!! it turns out it was TRUE (i knew his mum), he had left his paper on top of the hampster cage over night and the little begger had eaten it!!!!
I once told my EX boss, that i was late due to the fact that i had got stuck behind a funeral car :$ (it was a lie):whistle :joss

There was the one time when i got stuck in the toilet and had to phone my boss to tell them i was going to be late, this one WAS true, and very embarrasing

I have a bad ankle so whenever I didn't want to work (at a video store) I would say 'Listen, my foot's really acting up today I don't think I can.' But one day I really needed to skip because I was having a bit of a nervous breakdown, but my excuse didn't work and the girl who wasn't even the manager was being very nosy and finally I just hung up and left town. Not surprisingly I no longer have that job ... but, hey unemployment is better than insanity.

well, in order to get out of 11th grade swimming, I told the teacher I didn't know how to swim. He told me that he would teach me. So I took my excuse further and said I didn't own a bathing suit and it was the middle of January and no store had them in stock. Luckily, he bought it.

I dunno what W/T would say. I couldn't picture them having to make excuses. They are pretty honest with their friends and I think they would only take jobs they like.

My personal high point was telling my Grade 12 History teacher, "I was well aware of the homework assignment; however, I chose not to do it."

It was worth it, just to see the look on his face.

The FBI were a big excuse at my high school.

I once got out of an entire afternoon of classes with the excuse that I was the editor of the school paper and had to help the principal collect all of the paper's photos and negatives to turn over to the FBI. Oddly, it was true. John Hinkley's parents lived in my town and he was seen in our high school the week before he shot the president. The FBI wanted to review our photos & negatives to see if we had a picture of him. Not quite sure why they needed the picture, but whatever. Sadly, not a single one of those FBI agents even remotely resembled Dana Scully. :(

Another time I was nodding off in English as we were studying Billy Budd when FBI agents came to the classroom and took a student into custody. Apparently he had decided to plant some sort of explosive devices around a government installation. He was kinda angry and disaffected and more than a little messed up. It probably sucks to be arrested by the FBI, but at least he got out of Billy Budd.

Im one of those people who liked to go to school and never skipped , even on senior skip day. Pitiful, I know. I did have to call in late to work one day with the excuse that I had to bail my sister out of jail. Unfortunately, it was true. I think thats the only time Ive ever been late for work.

Never told a lie to get out of something like school or work other than the not feeling well excuse. Reality has given me much weirder excuses though that I could use. For example...man fell in front of my train, the following week dog fell in front of my train, car in front of me flipped over and I stopped to do first aid, brother took car out and smashed it up the night before.
