Postby miss calendar » Tue Nov 26, 2002 12:30 pm

ms checkmate reading about your gf and her dachshund puppy brought up fond memories of 3 dachshunds I grew up with. I seem to have turned into a cat person since but I really loved those dogs, was heartbroken when each died.

I don't have an animal obsession myself but am always buying things for friends and family who do. My ex gf had a thing for crocodiles and pigs and I still have to stop myself buying cards and presents when I see particularly nice ones.

Tulipp you're not the only one who sometimes hangs onto stuffed toys originally destined for younger souls. Recently I bought a Krypto the Superdog stuffed toy for a friend's son and I just had to keep it. He looks so fine in his red, superman cape but still has that adorable labrador puppy look....And I loved the story of your cat with her 'teddy bear'. I've met dogs with favourite toys but never a cat and it sounds like she really is using it as a 'transitional object'.So sweet.

The new banners are smashing. Xita, wow!

My hangover has now kicked in having spent the past 3 days in a drunken state celebrating my best friends marriage yesterday. They are helping to ease the pain :)

Never really had an animal obsession, my ex used to collect dragons. I once spent 2 hours & a tenner trying to win this huge cuddley one for her at a fair.

Have to agree about the banners. I spent a good 5 minutes staring at the one in Different Colored Pens before I could tear myself away.

I used to collect cats. I have tons which are now stored at my parents house to make room for my new obsession which is Peanuts. The comic strip, not actual peanuts. Lunch boxes, ornaments, stuffed animals, books, I collect it all especially stuff with Snoopy on it. It kind of freaks people out when they first walk in to my apartment. "Good lord! That's a lot of Snoopy!"

Pretty banners! I like the blue background.

Re. animals. Well, the husband is a vet, so count me in for 3 dogs (1 runt-of-the-litter Lab, 1 completely neurotic pound-puppy mutt, and 1 blind, rescued foxhound) and 1 cat -- the sweetest kitty on the face of the earth, she said without a trace of bias ;) Truly a Kitty Fantastico. I used to be a big-time goldfish keeper, but after the Great Ich Epidemic of 1999, I was too scarred to set the tank back up again. Maybe now that I'm done with school.

As far as obsessions, I love giraffes. Always have -- they're goofy and ungainly, but they're COOL. Hubby indulges me (I got SUCH a cute mom-and-baby giraffe figurine for my birthday) but I keep it a secret from the family at large -- if the 'rents knew about it I'd be swimming in giraffe commemorative plates and suchlike.

ah well, today is a good day -- the husband is flying in from CA for Thanksgiving -- and I'm going home with him after the holiday! YESSS!!! -- and I submitted the last bits of paperwork for my degree. Life is good.

For me it's whales. Not exactly cude and cuddly but obsessions can't always be convenient. I do have a couple stuffed toy whales, which were always intended for me I'm happy to say. No ceramic ones though, just lots of books and videos and posters. Now if we were talking non-animal collectables ...snowglobes.

I like kittens and cats.

a lot.

On a different topic I recently ran across a list of really bad analogies that cracked me up. Anyone that has read any really really bad fanfic will appreciate this: www.humorcentral.com/humo...ke201.html

I like the new banners too. Very cool.

As for animals, I occassionally trespass beyond the bounds of ailurophilia to ailurotheism. Cats are perfect, each one of them beautiful and graceful. I used to be very into stuffed cats, with a black cat with a beret named Pixel my favorite, as I am allergic, but I ended up getting myself a real live kitten anyway after meeting my first Bengal.

I don't have a lot of younger people to buy stuff for, but I did buy A Child's Machiavelli: A Primer in Power for myself a year or so ago. It would have been [b:d191474417]very[/b:d191474417] useful for dealing with the other kids...

Autumn!!! I think I lost consciousness laughing at those! Thanks! My favorites:

Her vocabulary was as bad as, like, whatever.

He spoke with the wisdom that can only come from experience, like a guy who went blind because he looked at a solar eclipse without one of those boxes with a pinhole in it and now goes around the country speaking at high schools about the dangers of looking at a solar eclipse without one of those boxes with a pinhole in it.

She was as unhappy as when someone puts your cake out in the rain, and all the sweet green icing flows down and then you lose the recipe, and on top of that you can't sing worth a damn.

....oh....God....I can't breathe....

Wow! I love the new banner, it's just gorgeous. But you know I *never* would have noticed it unless you had all pointed it out to me - my graphics are turned off on this computer.
Good job to the artist, however could we have a minutes silence for the loss of the old banner!?...:)

Loving the new banners, xita. Esp. on the Pens. My animal of choice is the owl. I started collecting them a few years ago on a whim mostly. When my mom realised I had started acquiring owls she pointed out how her mother had collected them too. I hadn't really known that. I'd like to think it gives me a bit more of a connection to her now that she's gone. Willow? Hmmm... I think I'll vote for platypus also. That just seems so her. And Tara? I'd have to think the owl or possibly the raven. The raven is the smartest bird in the world (their brains are on par with primates and their vocal range is almost as varied as human) and we all know how Tara has a thing for brainy types. :wink

Edited to fix my crack induced mistake.

Xita..new banners are bootyful!
Animal obsessions? Horses. I've ridden since I was three and got my baby boy when I was 12. (all seventeen hands of him) He was the most gorgeous dark bay Missouri foxtrotter. I rescued him from a boys home where they beat him and half starved him. It broke my heart when my grandmother sold him out from under me because of an accident. But now Thor is living with people who take excellent care of him and show him every summer. *sniffle*

I love the new banners. I could sit here and stare at them all night :)

I've always been a cat person, though I don't tend to buy "cat stuff" (though I do buy stuff for my cat..) but it is a "thing" that relatives and friends will fall back on, when buying me gifts, so I tend to get given cat calenders etc for christmas.
and as a teenager, I was obsessed by whales, and "saving the whales". Even to the extent of dragging my aunt and uncle out on a 3 hour humpback whale watching cruise when we were in Maui. My parents refused to go with me.
My room at home still has all my whale posters and art all over the walls.

I sorta have a thing for dolphins.....like Alyson does. :) I think they are sooooooo beautiful and cute. :) I even have stationary that has dolphins on it. My grrlfriend has an obsession with Pigs. She thinks they are cute. Well, I dunno if I'd call it an obsession, but she really loves them. *lol* My mom has a thing for hummingbirds. My friend Cindy LOVES frogs!! heeeheeeee.

Umm.......that's all i can think of right now. :)

Ooh, ooh, animal obsessions! I've got one. I love foxes. I don't know how it got started. They've been my favorite animal ever since I could remember which is ironic because the road I live on is named Fox Hill but I liked foxes before I was even old enough to know my road...

I also love kitty cats. My house has always had a least 2 or 3 but it was more likely to find 5 when I was growing up. One family member or another was always bringing another kitten home. My kitty right now is a really tiny, all black kitty named Buddy. He's the best kitty I've ever had.

I also like bunnies but that's only recent and entirely due to Anya's hatred of them. Owls too are very cool. That's due to Harry Potter, though.

Real-animal-wise, I'm a kitty person. (See my avatar? That's my unphotogenic baby Pasha, and I laughed till I cried when I saw that pic) And check out the freaky eyes on Trinity, my other kitty. Eek!

Collection-wise, I'm a cow person. Everyone always gives me cow stuff. I love cow stuff.

I also ADORE William Wegman's Weimaraner series. I have a big poster up in my living room and have several of his books. They're so funny.

Animal art, I love George Rodrigue's Blue Dog series.

I just wuv my aminals :grin

It's strange, but I love Texas Horned Toads. They're just so cute...like a tiny little dinosaur. There used to be a lot of them where I grew up in Oklahoma and we played with them all the time, so I guess they remind me of my childhood. They're almost extinct now tho and it makes me very sad to think they probably won't be around much longer.
