Ready for some footbalI? It's Denver Bronco Weekend MKF 9/7

Postby AutumnT » Fri Sep 06, 2002 4:41 pm

It's gotta be the weekend someplace. Heh, heh. And once again Autumn and her kitten Bronco gang inflict themselves and their Bronco love on the board. Because it is what we do.

And to make it even more exciting here in kittenland our beloved Broncos open their season with me in the stands against Rally's favorite St. Louis Rams.

Yesterday I bought some new Bronco socks in preparation. What's the scariest sports related thing you own? Mine could be my Bronco snack helmet: store.denverbroncos.com/p...age=family

Additionally, I'd like to issue a challenge as we are in the last days of fundraising here for the Trevor Project. Pick your favorite team and make a "wager" if you lose (or if you win), send that money to the Trevor Project fund on Monday morning.

And remember. GO BRONCOS!

You just couldn't help yourself could you? I'm right there with you...GO BRONCOS!!

My scariest sports-related thing I own? Probably not honestly described as "a" thing...it's my Broncos shrine. Two walls in one room of my apartment completely dedicated to the display of Broncos memorabilia. And hey...there's even a pair of Broncos socks in a shadowbox frame there. ;)

Gosh darn it, Autumn! I was waiting for midnight, but I guess that you snooze, you lose, or something like that. Or maybe my lesson should be to not obey the rules. I don't know.

Anyway, happy Rosh Hashana to all you kitties who know what I'm talking about.

Actually, happy Rosh Hashana to all kitties!

Oh geez...I just realized I DO have something very, very scary amongst all my Broncos items. Make that two somethings...two unopened packages of Hostess snowballs in Broncos colors -- one each from 1997 and 1998, our Super Bowl victory years. At least they used to be in Broncos colors. Now they're mostly gray...and rather fuzzy. And probably quite toxic at this point. But I'm hanging onto them. Cuz, y'know...Super Bowl Championship Hostess snowballs. Very much with the sentimental value. :)

And, oh yes, thank you Elianna for the Rosh Hashana reminder. Shana Tova all!

the scariest sports thing I own... nothing worse than my yankees tye-dye shirt and wrap around sunglasses. So you of snack helmets and moldy hostess product win.
And... oh yeah, happy rosh hashana (or new year) to the Jewish people here. Although, if you're orthodox, you won't read this till Sunday...

First, Autumn, I really am only teasing you, I really am not such a stickler for the rules. I was actually contemplating what excuse to come up with breaking them (something on the lines of "Well, according to judaism, the new day begins on sunset, and as this is a holiday..."). :)

And scary, sports related stuff? I really don't think that I own anything scary. I have some tennis rackets, but I'm not a big fan of organized sports. My mom has these Dodger Bobblehead dolls, and I think that they're freaky. She keeps them in the breakfast room, and I have to keep turning them around, because I don't like them staring at me while I eat.

edited to add: So do any of you do anything special for Rosh Hashana? I'm not religious at all (I'm here now :) ) The only thing that I really love is apples in honey, pomegranate, and round Challa. Yes, it's all about the food for me. ;)

Or here we go... I stopped by the store today for a bottle of tequila and a nice tri tip to throw on the grill. My favorite grilled tri tip and grilled onions sandwiches for Sunday. Of course as the season plays out, it would be opening day, and I don't count that travesty of a game last night as opening day. Sunday is opening day.

So as it would of course play out the orange ponies are playing the Rams. Should be interesting.

Hey Eliana,

Shana Tova, to you and the other kittens that are celebrating!

I 'intended' to go to the Synangogue with my family, but only woke up at noon (the service started at 8:30). I feel a bit bad, but, well, it was a nice sleep =P

There are always interesting conversations at the rosh hashana dinner table. Like the time my thirteen-yr-old sister loudly accused my (84 yr old) grandmother of being a "closet lesbian". :lol It was one of the funniest moments ever...my poor old conservative grandmother, who was in the middle of a homophobic rant about 'indecent lifestyles', etc, certainly got what she deserved. "You know what they say about homophobic people", she explained with a beautiful smirk. Ah, sometimes you gotta love little sisters.

Have a lurvely weekend, everyone! :D

Well, I think owning anything pertaining to the Detroit Lions and actually admitting it would be very, very scary given the total pathetic ness of that pitiful franchise. So, I wont admit it. And I dont think that could compare with fuzzy grey Hostess snowballs anyway. UhGo Lions! Why do I have such trouble saying that with conviction?

And Happy Rosh Hashanah to all our Jewish kittens from the Rosenberg family.

The scariest sports-related things that I own aren't scary unless you know their backstory: my Florida State baseball cap and t-shirt were Christmas gifts from my gf's brother. He's such a rabid FSU fan that he painted his bedroom in garnet and gold, the school colors, and named his dog "Bowden" after the FSU football coach. Bowden wears an FSU collar, BTW. Maybe it's because I spent six years at the University of Southern California without attending a single football game, but I have always found my brother-in-law's obsession just a little frightening.

But, then again, my nephew has been seen wearing a USC bib, so maybe my own family can be just as filled with school spirit. Or obsession.

edited to add: I forgot the most important thing: Happy Rosh Hashana, y'all!

Yeah, I think the same can be said about the Atlanta Falcons. However, we did make it to the Super Bowl in '99(to get crushed by Autumn's Broncs)...and who could resist the urge to jump up and do the "dirty bird" with Jamal Anderson...um, okay so maybe not, but I don't think I'll ever recover from watching my mother jump up and do it after we beat Minnesota to get in the Bowl.

hehe, I don't know if I own one scary item in particular but the sheer amount of Gonzaga University basketball related items I own frighten a lot of people. I've had to dedicate a whole wall of my room to a GU memorabilia collage I made up of all my stuff...heh, and the school I go to is GU's crosstown rival of sorts so I get plenty of crap about that but what can I say, I'm obsessed!

Ah, sports and the joy the bring. Unless, of course, like me you are a Scotland fan. Sigh. Five games five defeats so far. At least we have consistency. ;)

But today is the day that all changes. I'm sure we'll win today. I'm sure mainly because we're playing the Faroe Islands. Ever heard of them? Exactly. Is not that we're good, it's just that they're worse.

C'mon the lads! :bounce

And if we should lose there's always beer!

Over here in the land of football played predominantly with the feet, England take on Portugal.

Venue for the game? Villa Park, home of the mighty Aston Villa :)

I've got mixed feelings about this game - I love watching England, cos it means all day drinking sessions in the pub, probably topped off with a nice balti before passing out in bed with a satisfying sense of achievement.

But today is significant in that two very unsavoury characters will be pulling on the Three Lions shirt to represent their country. I won't bore you with the details but needless to say they're not the type of people who inspire a united England. Sigh.

Anyway, scary sports related items? Hmm. I don't really have anything scary from Aston Villa, just lots of it. Although the black, red and green striped away shirt I have would definitely not look out of place in any bad wardrobe :)

Have a good weekend, Kittens!

OH I'm from WI. Can you say cheesehead anyone. Only in this state is it socially acceptable to wear a big foam cheese wedge on your head. In fact it is a must in the stands.

#4 Brett Farve Kicks Butt. Sept 29 that'll be me in the stands with the big foam wedge on my head screaming for my Packers!!

Happy Weekend all,

A quick drive by posting before I head off to the pub to get drunk while enjoying the England game, mind you I gotta agree with you on the unsavoury pair getting England call ups .

Scary sports related items, well I do own the new Sunderland home shirt, which may not sound that scary, however I have been a life long Arsenal supporter !

Hope you all have fun, whatever type of football you enjoy :)

So, I'm sitting here, thinking how I once lived in Denver and how the Kittens are great and how much I would like to have something to contribute to this thread.

Unfortunately, I don't know enough about football or the Broncos even to make a little joke about it. I am a black hole when it comes to sports.

But I hope you all enjoy your games this weekend.

Have fun watching whatever you're all going to see :)

I don't know anything about American Footy (in the words of Giles, "I just think it's rather odd that a nation that prides itself on its virility should feel compelled to strap on forty pounds of protective gear just in order to play rugby.") *hehe*

But I wanted to share Miss KF - she likes to follow the mouse ;)

And Autumn, I wouldn't have wished for you to post anything other than a thread devoted to sports. What with me being the sporty type I am. Oh yes. I'm quite the sports gal. ;)

Hey Urn! You're a cheesehead; that's excellent! I've been swayed into supporting (kinda) the Packers, mainly because my dear friend is from WI and is a [b:f95411e7a6] huge[/b:f95411e7a6] fan.

I have a Brett Favre shirt and I think I want to have his babies. Ahem. When I was up in Indiana, I also bought my dad a Packers cap with flashing lights round the logo. Truly hideous and really unsavory. Heh. But he seemed to like it almost as much as my six-year old nephew. Takes all sorts. ;)

I still have to get my "best" sports purchase yet though. I've been promised a Packers "bobblehead" doll, and I think it's Brett. So I'm naturally entirely too excited about that. :rolleyes

Well, I always wanted the Empire Carpets bobblhead doll, but sigh, alas, I never got one.

Go the Pack.

And ahem, [i:f95411e7a6] *takes glasses off, coughs politely, cleans them, puts them back on again*[/i:f95411e7a6] I think I'm done. :)

P.S. That kitten is the cutest. Thanks for the link.

P.P.S. [b:f95411e7a6] Bound[/b:f95411e7a6] is on Channel 4 tonight. I urged my sister to watch it, heh. Y'know, because I'm evil. An evil lesbian, I suspect. Anyway, I know what I'll be doing tonight. ;) Yes, perhaps that too!

I love how MKF bats her paw and how you can see her chest moving in and out as she breathes. Cool!

Im a HUGE Redskins fan, so this weekend is something Ive been looking forward to for a long while. Steve Spurrier brings his Fun and Gun offense to DC, which means we might actually have a good season for the first time in almost a decade. Its finally fun to be a Redskins fan again.

I dont have any scary football items, but I do have one item Im especially proud of. When I turned 16 my mom took me to the Touchdown Club in DC and I got an autographed football from the Redskins. I still have it and it still goes down as my all-time greatest birthday present.

Hope everyone has a great weekend and, win or lose, I hope you enjoy tomorrow. :)

Go Redskins!!
