I haven't even made my donation yet and I know many people who haven't and plan on doing so. Please don't feel like you won't donate cause it is only a little, every penny counts!

Send in anything you can!

If anyone has an objection with the checks getting cashed until September, please let me know. Also, I plan on posting strict accounts of who paid what by initial, but if someone objects I can do it by zip code or something. I want to be real upfront about the record keeping.

Got my measly lil 'on a temp salary' contribution sent off via Paypal last night. Glad to be able to give at least a little to such a worthy cause. I'm really proud of the Kittens. It feels really good to look at that total and think about how this community is pulling together to help to counter the negativity all around us with something so positive.

I rang my bank today & asked about sending an International Money Order to the United States. He doubled checked I meant the United States [i:22a7f9aad7] of America[/i:22a7f9aad7] (doofus!) then said all I have to do is go in with proof of ID, eg passport/driving license, & proof of addresss, & they'll sort it all out.

Hi, Traggic Prose. I did the same thing you are facing with PayPal, and checked off the "quasi-cash" option (you can go to the first page and see my post as well as WebWarlock's reply). WebWarlock said there was a charge that he basically ate (my words there), but I'm not sure what the option would be if not quasi-cash.

Yeah I was still working on things when some of the money was sent. I made up what we lost (a whopping $1.03). There is asmall fee on Credit Card transactions, but nothing big.

First off let me say I have always been proud to call myself a Kitten. But this, this gives "Kitten" a new level of distinction and honor.

I received a new packet of information last night from The Trevor Project.
In it was a curriculum guide for teachers and the Trevor movie. I will give a report on it as soon as I can.

They also included some statistics that they wanted me to share with you. I would have shared them anyway.

1. In five major American cities, anti-Gay and Lesbian hate crimes have increased 127% over the last six years.

2 .Nationally, Gay and Lesbian your account for 30% of all fatal youth suicides.

3. Gay and Lesbian youth as 35% more likely to be involved with substance abuse than their Heterosexual peers.

4. Because of the HIV incubation period, 60% of young adult men infected with AIDS were infected as teenagers.

5. In several American cities, over 40% of all homeless youth are Gay or Lesbian.

6. Over 30% of Gay and Lesbian youth experience verbal or physical assault in high school.

Now remember, these numbers are underestimates because to rely on self report of the teenagers sexuality. I have seen estimates of some of these numbers that add as little as 10% more or as much as doubles them.

I still have my accounts to MedLine and GreatfulMED since the University of Illinois [i:02bc345e3e] still[/i:02bc345e3e] thinks I am faculty there, so I can get harder numbers with refs if anyone would like. But these numbers or numbers from more critical sources are going to say the same thing in the end.
Being a gay or lesbian teen in this world sucks. Everyone and everything seems against you. It is great to have something like the Trevor Project and the Kitten Board to help tell these kids No. You are ok.

Let's discuss ideas how to handle the auction. I am in a pretty central location in Chicago, but perhaps when someone wins a bid then the person who has the item can ship it direct? Otherwise it's a cost to ship it to a centralized location and then the kitten who wins the bid pays shipping again???

tommo, I went into my bank 2day (NatWest) to sort out the money order. I didnt need any ID, but its my branch so that might be why. The way they work it is to fill out a form with all the details & fax it off, but coz its Friday it wont get processed till Monday. Then I go in next Friday & pick up the cheque made out to TTP, & post it off to Xita.
