That's awesome, Tim! :)

Although... Buffy fans. :rolleyes
Yeah. Heh. I won't grumble too loudly about that given that I'm just glad to see some mention of such a worthy cause over there. So again with the yay!

That's wonderful Tim and and it reads more like fans of Willow and Tara than Buffy, which is good.

Hey Kittens,
Just found this on the BBC Buffy site under the latest news section. Sorry I'm too computer illiterate to work out how to do the link but this is the news article:

Charity for Tara (Spoilers!)
This article contains a huge season six spoiler - you have been warned!
Tara fans make profit from their loss.
Tara and Willow fan group The Kitten, the Witches and the Bad Wardrobe <www.froggyfrog.com/kitten/> have marked season six's climactic death of Tara in an unusual and thoughtful way. Rather than taking out full-page ads in Variety campaigning for the character's return, as some other groups did, they decided to channel their woes into raising money for charity.
A spokesperson for the group told US gay and lesbian news-site The Advocate, "On the Kitten Board we saw countless young people describing how Willow and Tara had helped them through painful times, [and] had given them hope that they could be accepted in society.
"Thats why, when the relationship was destroyed in such a clichd way, board members felt compelled to fight back, to help those making positive moves to change things for the future generations."
Since launching the campaign the Willow and Tara fansite, which has expanded to include a forum for gay and questioning teens, has raised over $8,000 for the Trevor Project.
American gay teens are three times as likely to attempt suicide than their straight peers. Set up in to promote tolerance and prevent these deaths occurring, the Trevor Project launched the first free 24/7 gay hotline, the Trevor Helpline, in 1998.

Xita your Advocate interview was great and now the message has spread even further. You rock!!

As you may have noticed through my incorrect posting earlier (sorry bout that, clicked the wrong button by accident, didn't mean to intro on the main page...) Im new here.

I discovered the site through thebbc report today, although I had heard about it from a few friends. Id lurked, but when I got my new computer, i lost the URL.

Untill today.

As someone who suffers a lot in the 'real world' because of their sexuality, I appreciate having somewhere I can talk where I wont be judged. :)

So this is just a general thank you, and well done :)

Now Im back off to cry at seeing red....

~*Its a long.. painfull process....and... can we just skip it? Can you just be kissing me now?*~

No, thanks to all the Kittens that made this a success.

And thanks to the BBC as well. They actually used the word "clichd". I guess it is not just us that see it that way. At least this writer did.

I'm glad this thread is back. I got a card for the cracked xmas 5 fundraiser for The Trevor Project. I think it was prolly because I sent a donation in memory of Tara for her birthday. You can get info at www.THETrevorProject.org
Armistead Maupin is going to be honored with the Inaugural Trevor Life Award.
They have impressive folks on the Honorary Host Committee, IMO. The are Gillian Anderson, Dan Butler, Margaret Cho, Kate Clinton, Ellen DeGeneres, Eve Ensler, Teri Garr, Kathy Kinney, Camryn Manheim, Sir Ian McKellen, and Suzanne Westenhoefer. Awesome!
I hope some Kittens will be able to go and give us a complete report (including a Food Report! :grin )

Found this on Google - anyone heard if Amber and Ally are going? Will the Kitten be represented?

Comedian Drew Carey and his sidekick Mimi (Kathy Kinney) from the "Drew Carey Show" as well as others from the show and film actor such as "Paid in Full" star Anthony Clark will be performing at a show honoring author Armistead Maupin.

The San Francisco-based writer in will be honored with the first-ever Trevor Life Award at The Trevor Project's Cracked Xmas 5. This award, given by The Trevor Project, a non-profit organization created by the filmmakers of TREVOR, recognizes individuals or groups dedicated to promoting tolerance for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transsexual teens and aiding in suicide prevention among them. Maupin is one of the world's most widely read gay authors, with bestsellers including "Tales of the City," "The Night Listener" and "Babycakes."

The globally recognized "Tales of the City" was adapted into three widely acclaimed television miniseries that received a Peabody Award and five Emmy nominations. Maupin has been a supporter of The Trevor Project since its inception.

Maupin says, "The work of The Trevor Project is very close to my heart. An understanding listener would have helped me enormously when I was a teenager, so I think it's wonderful that someone is trying to rescue 21st Century kids from that hell of self-hatred and ignorance."

The Cracked Xmas 5 is not just about the Trevor Life Award; it is also about comedy, music, and complimentary wine and hors d'oeuvres.

The evening's events will include a pre-show and silent auction at 4 pm, a live auction at 5:30 p.m., and finally, an after-party a t 8 p.m.

Some of this year's performers also include Ryan Stiles, Aisha Tyler, Ty Herndon, Michael Patrick King and others. The event will be held on Dec. 8 at the Palace in Hollywood.

Jorge Valencia invited some of the Kittens that organized the charity the chance to come to cracked christmas as his way of thanking us.

With a baby on the way I declined, but suggested that Aly and Amber be invited, they allready were.

The Kitten will be mentioned at the fundraiser.

The program in this Sunday. We will get some reports I am sure.

Postby BBOvenGuy » Sun Dec 08, 2002 11:16 pm

We're back... well, I am anyway. :)

Alas, Aly and Amber weren't able to make the big bash. We were all talking about that, and we realized that we don't exactly know what's up on Amber's schedule these days, or where she is. It could be that she's out of town.

As for me, I didn't get there until after 6:00 because I had a singing gig of my own that afternoon. By the time I arrived, actress Marla Sokoloff (from The Practice) was onstage playing a guitar and singing - not half-bad, from what I heard. The entertainment highlight was an improv act by Drew Carey, his Drew Carey Show nemesis Kathy Kinney and some folks from Whose Line Is It Anyway?. Author Armistead Maupin received the Trevor Life Award, and it was interesting to hear him talk. I've never read any of this work, but I liked his attitude about writing and the good it can do in the world.

Oh, Jennifer Westfeldt, writer and star of Kissing Jessica Stein was there, too.

Anyway, after Armistead Maupin was through, the program went straight into the "After-Party" segment, and I called it a night. It had already been a very long day for me. I'm sure more news and food reports will be coming along when the rest of the group arrives.

Oh, and our page in the official program looks really classy. I hope Xita scans it so you can all see. :grin

Great Bob!

Glad you had a great time and glad to hear that ad looked good.

This is not a scan, but the what I sent the Trevor people. We decided that simple was the best. The color theme was red and green (Christmas you know) so that is why the ad is also red and green.

Too bad that Aly and Amber could not make it. But they are, thankfully, very busy. Aly has some TV show she is filming and of course AP3. Amber might even be in the UK now with Chris Golden.

There is also a "thank you" page for Aly and Amber at http://kittenboard.com/thankyou.html.

Postby Rane018 » Mon Dec 09, 2002 12:23 pm

bob! hi sweetie! glad to have finally met you!

the night started off with a bang in my opinion (especially when misses X and E picked me up). Suzanne Westenhoefer was funny as MC and Alisha Tyler's stand up was hilarious (she's the talk soup girl). She is one funny, funny girl.

the best group performance was certainly the *whose line is it anyway* segment which was absolutely hysterical! My cheeks hurt from so much laughing. ok, so it was more of my drew carey crush laughing cause he's laughing and he laughs so cutely that i just had to laugh and laugh i did. but they were all funny so i was laughing upon a laugh.

marla sokolov was good but what's up with all these tv actresses getting music contracts?

the bidding part was sad. the prices were high and the auctioneers pretty much had to coerce the crowd into bidding. louie anderson even said he'd match up some of the bids to donate to Trevor which was awesome of him.

I expected more out celebrities to come in support and not just because they are a part of the line up. Why wasn't ellen there? or Melissa or... i cant think of any gay celebs. lol... the evening ended rather early so i cant see any reason more hollywood type people didn't come (execs included). you could tell it was a small affair but still i think everyone interested or in support of this should have attended. even for an hour or so.

We didn't stay around for the after party either. actually i didn't even realize the after party had begun until people started dissappearing. lol. then we went for dinner, drank, and gossiped like we girls do. lol...

thanks Xita and all the Kittens for your help/dedication to this! the ad was great (even though i expected them to at least have mentioned the kitten during the speeches), the evening was certainly fun. especially xita interviewing me on the red carpet.

ETA: just found this out: There has been a change of plans for this year's Cracked Xmas 5 benefit performance in support of The Trevor Project. Ellen DeGeneres was set to accept the first Trevor Life Award in honor of her past work in support of the organization. Ellen will be unable to accept the award because she is going on tour.
