As you know XIta I am in.
Might I suggest the following to the group as a whole -
HRC - which has done tons of grass roots advocacy and has several programs geared to families.
www.hrc.orgThe Trevor Project - Is based in California and specifically focuses on promoting tolerance. The Trevor Project is a nonprofit endeavor created by the makers of TREVOR to promote tolerance for gay and questioning youth, and to aid in suicide prevention among that group. Statistics have shown that gay teens are three times more likely to attempt suicide than their heterosexual peers, and The Trevor Project hopes, through its efforts, to prevent some of those tragedies from occurring.
check out there website:
www.thetrevorproject.org/project.htmlPFLAG -- A national organization with hundreds of local chapters devoted to promoting the health and well-being of gay, lesbian and bisexual persons and their families and friends.
www.pflag.org/My only concern would be going to an organization like the Salvation Army which has had a horrible record within the gay and lesbian community.
I also think it will be important - as Xita helped me realize - to not use this to support GLAAD since they have dropped the ball so hard on reporting any kind of disappointment at this or any of the other similar TV plots this season on shows they have been known to honor. i.e. All My Children as well as Buffy.
Although I do think once this project has been completed we should alert some level of either the gay press, GLAAD etc and send along with the info about the donation the wonderfully composed piece on the Cliche.
Beyond helping today's gay youth with the funds, I think getting the word out so the industry and the advertisers take notice can't hurt.
There's my two cents....
