I most relate to my favorite character on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Her name is Willow and she is Byffy's best friend. She is a sweet, loving, kind character. She is always there for Buffy. Willow is a lesbian, I;m also a lesbian who can relate to her, definitely! I hope she stays on the show forever because she is th nicest, friendliest
character on the show. I've noticed that when there are gay people on a show, ratings tend to go way up, like on Aly McBeal. Gay characters rule!

Willow rules. I was going to start a thread for this but I think it fits here with the theme of the article:

I had an email battle today with a friend at another agency about the most popular character vs the most liked character. He said Buffy for both. I said Buffy - most popular, Willow - most liked. So we did a poll around our offices, with only a very few Buffy-philes, and here are the results:

an unscientific poll of 100 people:
popular - Buffy 91, Spike 9
likeable - Willow 84, Giles 12, Dawn 4. No one even mentioned Buffy for this. No Xander either, which actually surprised me. He's a adorable! Like a big puppy.

Plus everyone would go on about Willow, like in the article above, for various reasons. Even people that had only seen the show a time or two knew Willow (even if they only knew her as "the redhead witch") and why they liked her - a "real" gay character - not the "token gay person", sweet, unassuming, not ashamed of her geekiness, smart but not a smartass, reliable, and it went on.

All the characters have their hard-core groups of fans, but I didn't realize just how many occasional viewers latched on to Willow. Because they [i:3ce8706785]identified[/i:3ce8706785] with her. I know I did and that's why I've loved her since Season One Episode One.

Too cute! I like Willow because she's not embarrased about being a geek. If only I could get over that.

And I am pleased that W/T aren't the "token gays" that I thought they would be.

Willow is just too adorable, I too was drawn to her when I first watched the show. I loved her quirkiness and that she's proud to be a geek. I'm so glad that W&T are not made to be the sterotypical gay characters. they are just so sweet together. just wish I can be as lucky as Willow on finding a g.f. like Tara.
