Just before seven 'o' clock Willow's key was heard opening the front door. She glanced around looking for her girlfriend, but only saw Buffy and Dawn sat watching cartoons.
“Dawn, aren't you supposed to be helping Tara get ready?” Willow scowled slightly at the girl. She'd trusted Dawn to carry out her part of the plan so that everything would run smoothly. When she saw that Dawn was watching telly and not helping Tara, Willow had got a little annoyed.
“Relax little red witchy-hood, Tara kicked her out when she'd finished her hair and make-up. Apparently, nobody's allowed to see her before you do.” Buffy jumped to her sister's defence, before Willow had a major wiggins.
“Oh, cool.” Willow exclaimed grinning at her lover's thoughtfulness.
“Anyway, lets have a look at you.”
The wiccan did a little twirl for her captive audience. She had spent the last forty-five minutes at Xander and Anya's getting ready and desperately trying to stop Joshua getting peanut butter all over her.
Dawns observation of - “Wow, you scrub up pretty good Will.”- although not politely worded, was very accurate.
Willow was dressed in a long, deep-purple velvet dress. It had thin straps and a collapsed neckline. The skirt started at a gather at the small of Willow's smooth, milky back, which was completely revealed by the lack of material in the back of the dress. Small black heels elevated the redhead and prevented the bottom of the skirt from trailing on the floor. Soft red curls hung loose around her face, bouncing above her freckled shoulders, the only decoration was a small white lily that rested just above her right ear. The whole ensemble was set off beautifully by the sparkling emerald eyes and angelic, loving smile that adorned her lightly made-up face.
A small gasp from the top of the stairs caught Willow's attention and her gaze darted to where the sound had originated. The sight she was confronted with left her both breathless and speechless.
The perfectly fitting dress hugged Tara's full, curvaceous figure wonderfully. The baby blue of the silk and soft blue eye shadow highlighted deep sapphire eyes; pale pink lipstick made soft lips sparkle like diamonds. Golden blonde hair was pulled back from lightly blushed cheeks in a twist, two curls framing either side of the smiling face. Heeled feet tapped gently as the radiant witch seemingly glided down the stairs towards the most important person in her life.
“You like?” Tara asked timidly, seeking verbal confirmation of what was written plainly in her girlfriend's face and eyes.
“I like, I more than like. Tara, baby, you look…wow.” There was so much more that Willow wanted to say, but she couldn't find any words to express herself fully.
“Thanks. So do you.” The sincerity of the simple statement prevented Willow from restraining herself any longer. She did what she'd been dying to do since she'd walked in the house, pulled Tara close and kissed the blonde passionately. Both girls melted into the kiss as everything around them faded away until they were the only two people in existence.
And they would have stayed that way for the rest of eternity if Dawn hadn't interrupted with a highly unoriginal - “Get a room”.
“S-sorry.” Tara blushed, embarrassed by how carried away she had gotten.
“I'm not.” Willow whispered, smiling sweetly as she stroked her flustered girlfriend's cheek in an attempt to calm her.
“Don't you two have some place to be?” Buffy prompted before the two witches had a chance to get lost in each other's eyes, as they were prone to do quite regularly.
“Oh, I almost forgot, what with all the kissing and the overwhelming beauty. Your carriage awaits my lady.”
As Tara looked out of the open door she realised that that was not just a cheesy line.
On the sidewalk in front of the house there stood a white and gold carriage drawn by two chestnut brown horses. Willow had spared no expense and the hired mode of transport would have easily made Cinderella an extremely jealous princess. Just when Tara started thinking that her girlfriend couldn't possibly surprise her any more, the romantic wiccan went and pulled off a big romantic gesture like this.
“Today just doesn't stop getting better. Tell me again, what did I do to deserve this?”
“You were born…” Willow started her standard response.
“…and I exist.” Tara interrupted
“That's enough, that's more than enough.” They both finished together, smiling warmly at each other.
A small hug followed, then they walked, arms-linked, down the garden path.
