Thanks for the scans Xita. I ordered my copy from a comic book store, and it hasn't come yet.

This looks like a great story, my only complaint: it wasn't long enough.

Here's a little story ...

I received a gift certificate for Amazon.com and pre-ordered Tales of the Slayers TPB. At first, the order confirmation said shipping of this book would be 1/16/02. I thought "yay! woo and add a side hoo please!"

So, I check my account on 1/31/02 and see that the publish date is now listed at July 2002. HUH!?

I was totally bummed out and went to Matt's store *the world's best comic book store owned by the world's best comic book store owner who gives me free Buffy stuff* All pouty like, I make my way to the Buffy section and all wouldn't you know it? Tales of the Slayers! Two copies left -- just enough for me and my g/f.

I think I actually told Matt I was in love with him. Not sure. Point being -- I got it. I love it.

Joss' peices really do stand out for me. While I liked Amber's story, I just really needed it to be .... more.

See, the Tales of the Slayers is, to me, the reader getting to know something about the slayer. I adored Glittering World ... and someone had a problem with the ending ... no one wins. The Slayer lets Death go because a world without Death would be worse than a world with it.

I rambled too long.

For that I apologize ...

I believe it was Hemiola and myself who raised the question about the ending of "The Glittering World," but the question wasn't about the story of the Slayer meeting Death by the side of the road. Not on the metaphorical level anyway . . . more in the immediate context.

Damn it!! Just got a email f4rom Amazon.com. Here is what i got:

We have contacted the publisher by phone concerning the status of our
order for "Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Tales of the Slayer".

The representative that we spoke with indicated that this title has
not been released and there is no projected release date at this time.
Release dates tend to fluctuate, however, so there is a chance that
this will change. If we receive additional information about this, we
will let you know.

I really do want this one, hopefully i can still get it from B&N. But if anyone has any suggestions.

Thanks Kitties Meow!!

Edited to add: Oh, and thank you Xita for the scans. At least I can have a computer copy till I find the novel. Thanks again.

My advice is to buy it at Amazon.com UK. I just bought mine yesterday and they've already shipped it today! Gotta love credit cards. If you want, I'll help you purchase it or I'll buy it and then you can send me the money by PayPal.

Thanks for the advice. I just did this and it worked like a charm.

Amazon.com UK recognised my regular US account, had all my shipping information and everything, and says it will be shipping within 24 hours.

Then I went to Amazon.com US and canceled my order there. God, I love the internationalization of life. I just ordered a frigging comic book from England, and it will ship tomorrow! Ain't life grand?!!

Any time. I was happy to help seeing as how I totally understood your frustration. I spent hours calling to almost every major comic store in the US and got only minimal results. So I finally said F**k this! whipped out my credit card and happily gave the numbers to Amazon.com UK. They were more than happy to oblige me

I finally really read this and I really loved it. I loved the slayer in drag, I didn't see it coming and I was looking for it cause nic had told me. Still it came as a surprise. I liked the last story which tied it all together. I would very much like to see another collection like this.

Xita is 75, although you'd never think so to look at her youthful skin. She keeps so young looking by drinking the sacrificial blood of newbies. I well remember my first 'bloodletting' as initiation. Sigh. Oh the old days, where are you now?

Ah yes, if only people read the FAQ that just so happens to be referenced at the top of every single page I suppose there would be no need for the bloodletting, but then God knows how old we'd all look.

Why look this thread is about Tales of the Slayer. I'm happy to say that my copy should arrive today. I was very pleased with the work Amber did in Wannablessedbe so I'm excited to read her story here.

Yeah Kitties!!!!!

I finally got my copy of Tales of Slayers from TFAW!!!!

My favorite stories are:

Innocence: Great writing by Amber, as usual.
Presumption: I completely thought the slayer was a male.
Nikki Goes Down!: Nikki is so cool. This makes me resent Spike even more.

------------------
Tara: My heart doesn't stutter.

Tara: Willow, I got so lost.
Willow: I found you. I will always find you.

Tara: Nobody messes with my girl!

I finally got round to reading all the stories, and I have to say I really liked them all. In fact, I wished they'd all been about twice the length, b/c over the entire collection, you could tell that some of the writers would have like to have more time to tell their stories, but had to resort to the 'twist in the tale' mode of storytelling. Ah well. Maybe if they do another volume, there will be longer and more in-depth stories.
btw, did anyone catch the 'Tales' reference in OMWF? I was watching it again last night, and in 'Life's A Show', Buffy makes a reference to 'this glittering world.' I don't know if that was intentional or not, but I felt like an uber-geek for spotting it.

Well, I finally got my hands on this sucker. Jeez, over a month since some Americans got it, and we just got it yesterday...

Great, great stuff. Especially loved the opening and closing, and Amber's 'Innocence' and Jane's 'Presumption'.

Even semi-jaded me was led on by 'Presumption'; a slayer in drag, great approach!

Beautiful work, all put together. Kudos to everyone involved.

Tales of the Slayers was the first BTVS graphic novel I bought, and it was totally worth it! The only way it could be improved would be if the stories were a tad longer- I want to know more about these Slayer gals!

Amber's story was very well done, and I also enjoyed 'Nikki goes down' (jeez, it does sound like a bad porn tille). Seeing the badass seventies Slayer brought back delicious FFL flashbacks.

My favorite story though was the one written by the Master himself (Joss Whedon) about the medieval Slayer. I liked the fact it was written in rhyme, and the ending was positively chilling.

Finally got a copy of this wonderful comic. My local comic store got it in late, but it was worth the wait.

I have already read Amber's affecting story - thanks Xita! Of the others, there were two that stood out for me.

Joss' "Righteous" about the medieval Slayer was very powerful, and I liked the rhyme. Tim Sale, the artist, provided the most powerful images of the whole book.

Jane Espenson's "Presumption" had text and dialogue that really fit the Regency period. Also, I've liked P. Craig Russell's art for years. I enjoyed watching my Jane-Austen-loving wife read the story. As with so many others, the ending took us both completely by surprise!

BTW, support your local comic shop - if you develop a good relationship with them they may be willing to do things for you (like putting aside one of every new Buffy action figure that comes out).

FYI for people trying to order the graphic novel -

I just tried to buy Tales of the Slayer from Dark Horse comics, but they said is was sold out and out of print. I thought this was strange since it was just released a month ago. I did find it on Amazon.com though and ordered it without any problems.

I mean I shelled out more for WBB, but hey that was a Willow/Tara one.

ARGH!!!

The Tales of The Slayer comic is so near yet so far from me. I've got it in my orders bag but because I bought the Buffy Magazine I couldn't take the comic as well! It was either one or another with the amount of vitamin M I had in my pockets (just enough for one item). *sniff* Hope to bring that home next month.
