Woo hoo! I think this turned out as best it could. Dual gold medals...or is that quadruple? Congrats to both pairs.

On a side note? Did anyone see David Pelletier and Jamie Sale perform on stage with the Bare Naked Ladies in the medals plaza? I thought it was hysterical!

Bring on Women's Ice Hockey!

Woo-Hoo! The pairs figure skating mess is over!

And just in time for the Ice Dancing to begin, too...

Meanwhile, I really like that Swiss ski jumping guy, even if he does look like Harry Potter.

YAY!!! Sale and Pelletier got their much deserved GOLD medals!!! And that French judge was permanently suspended!! I didn't really watch much of the Olympics but was watching when they skated and was so upset when they didn't win the Gold! But now they have it! Yay! Go North America!!

I think they came to a fair conclusion. It’s not the Russian pair’s fault, so they should keep their gold. But, boy, did the Canadians deserve that gold hardware around their necks. Thank heavens it’s over.

And how cute are those spunky Canadian skaters? The Bare Naked Ladies performance was a hoot.

Well, now that came out a lot more lesbian than it sounded in my head.

Hell yes they deserved that Gold! I agree that it was the fairest conclusion they could have come up with.
And I missed the women's hockey! I wanted to watch them kick some booty against China.

Wait, there was a performane with Bare Naked Ladies & the skaters! Blast! stupid NBC for not showing it- how did ya'll see it.
i'll second the adore the swiss ski guy- how cute is he! yay! the
am i alone in thinking that the French skating association should get punished as well- they were the one who were putting pressure on the judge- she did not act alone & i think it is wicked horrid that she gets all the punishment & not the people who caused her to commit the crime.
Second also the comment about Women's Ice Hockey- Go grrls!
happy happy day!

Glad to see this was how things worked out with the pairs figure skating mess. Wondering if we will see any long-term changes to the judging system to come out of this, though. From the sounds of it, this is a more systemic problem than one judge making one mistake.

Germany is the most successful country so far..I'm so proud and happy and I don't even believe in patriotism. It's just awesome and hey, the Americans win everything so leave the Olympics to us good old-fashioned genius Germans..I have a bet with my host Dad going on who of course supports the US team...well, if things go the way I hope they will, my personal wealth increases a good 400 %. Go Germany, go all the countries who love the Olympics and NBC: you suck. Americans not making medals doesn't mean you don't have to mention these competitions!

Good night and love to you all,

I dunno about NBC, but the CBC was showing clips through the entire evening broadcast.

And, of course, the entire concert was aired at 3 AM Eastern, which I dutifully taped. Ed wore one of our speed-skating team's 'Spiderman' skintight suits. Don't ask where he found one that fit.

As for Jamie and David, Ed invited her to play guitar. She took the pick and strummed, while Ed did the chords. this quiclky turned into a quick cover of "Girl, You Really Got Me Now", complete with a rollicking tambourine solo by David Pelletier...

Man, I love those guys. Canada all the way! WOOOOHOOOO!!!quote:

Sale and Pelliteir played with BNL. I honestly don't know who was better. Sale strumming the guitar or Pelletier running around on stage like a madman with a tambourine. It was fantastic. Apparently they were also on Larry King Live and the Tonight Show.

You have to give these two tremendous credits for handling this debacle with grace and class.

That's definitely some good news that the Canadians got the medal. They kinda had to give it to them in light of what happened with the French judge.

I just found out that the American that got 3rd in men's figure skating is from around where I grew up. Yay Chicago suburbs!

Argh-computer trouble killed my frist try at this, so I'll be brief...

Canada's Women's curling team just won their seventh straight match, they're undefeated and still cool as cucumbers.

Kelley Law and Co. are solid gold material. great stuff.

Okay, watching women's hockey this morning and the US team is kicking Finland all over the ice.

What's this about one girl on the US team being only 15 years old? Wowzers... Maybe she's really a Slayer and doesn't know it.

Lyndsey Wall (or Wahl, I'm not sure), I believe . . . she's 16. And how about 18-year-old Natalie Darwitz, pulling off the hat trick today?

*shaking head* My mother is now convinced I should play hockey . . . I'm wondering if this has anything at all to do with her possibly coming out of denial about me?

Yippee!!! A big woo and a hoo for women's ice hockey!!! I played all through college and grad school and loved it. I never thought it would be broadly accepted let alone added as an Olympic event in Nagano. It is such a great treat to see women out there on the ice playing at this level. Hopefully this will bring more fans and players to the sport.

Even though the score is uneven between the USA and FIN teams in the third, it’s a pretty good match. I can’t wait for the Canada /USA game. It will be awesome to watch.

I am not a skating judge or a vote trader,

And I don't live in an arena or eat foie gras or own a balalaika,

But I know of Jamie Salé and David Pelletier from Canada,

And I know also they are really, really nice.

I have a Prime Minister, not an IOC President.

I speak English and French, not Russian.

And I pronounce it "a vote" ... not "a dope".

I can proudly sew my country's flag on my backpack.

Sportmanship not corruption;

And that the beaver is a truly proud and noble animal!

A lift is just that; a cheater was found on the bench.

And it is pronounced GOLD not SILVER, GOLD!

The first nation of fair play,

And the best team in hockey!

Well my countryman Gerard van der Velde has won the gold medal in the 1000 meter speed skating contest, in an awesome new world record time at that. It was really great for the man, before this he managed to finish in 4th place four times in the last 10 years during the Olympic Games, twice with only 0.01 sec separating him from the bronze medal.

Oh and a belated woo and hoo to Catriona Lemay as well. A fantastic performance and a well deserved victory.

Oh yeah Jan Bos won the silver medal, but he seemed rather miffed at coming in second. Well he lost to the better man, if he hangs in there as long as Gerard van der Velde has, his time for gold may still come. Anyway, two gold two silver for the Netherlands thusfar.

All Apolgies Dr G. for disremembering your 4th metal- very good for ya'll 2 golds & 2 silvers!
i really think someone should write welcome to the hellmouth on the salt lake city ice rink as strange things are afoot at the Circle K- Big pile up in the Finals for the Mens 1000 short track(or is speed) with Ono 20 feet from the line- he gets taken down & by some crazy chance the guy from Oz gets gold & of course instead of being very sensible & reruning the race say tomorrow or some time, they give the Aussie the gold, the only reason for him not falling down of course was his being to far back in the pack. i of course mean no disrespect to Oz or the athelete, but I really cannot find it fair. The worst of it is our hope for metals Ono suffered a deep laceration to his thigh- lovely lovely lovely! How crazy is the whole ice thing- not to mention your poor Canadians & the whole thing with Jeremy Witherspoon- well at least ya'll got Bronze in the pileup~

Did everyone catch the men's 1000m short-track final? Crazy last lap, all 4 leading guys wiped out, leaving the last-place guy - an Australian - to cross the line for gold. the American and Canadian managed to crawl themselves over to get silver and bronze respectively.

This is Australia's first Winter olympic gold (they had 2 prevous bronzes). Very odd hearing "Advance, Australia Fair" in THIS venue...

EditAdd: Artemisia, it's fair enough; short-track is a very weird sport, and the way things did end up was within regulations, as the two guys who crawled over the line had one skate touching the ice. This wouldn't have been a re-play in semifinal action or at a smaller event, so it isn't here, either, even for a gold medal.
