After this episode airs, she will be in 4 more, if she's in exactly 16 episodes this year, as seems to be the case the way Marti keeps saying it.

Don't get me started.

Yeah I assumed that "As You Were" was a reference to Riley and the whole military thing, but on a deeper level I figured that Riley's return is supposed to point up the differences between Buffy "as she was"--i.e., when she was with Riley--and as she is--with Spike.

That's my take, anyway. There may be something else it refers to that we don't know about...the ep titles often have multiple meanings.

I'm not exactly sure where to put this observation. This is my best guess.

I did a quick check of the Olympics schedule and discovered that next Tuesday (Feb 19) is the Ladies' Short Program in the Figure Skating competition. Pretty smart move of UPN to push "As You Were" back a week, if you ask me. They're probably thinking - and rightly so - that bunches of people will tune in to watch Michelle, Sasha and Sarah instead.

I'm just wondering aloud here, but to what or whom does the title of the ep refer? I know where the phrasing originates, but how does it relate to the Scoobies?

See...I have this whole theory about things moving full circle. And if things are moving full circle towards better days...then...you know where I'm heading with this. Especially in light of drlloyd's post above.

Oh what...so I'm blindly optimistic. Look, someone has to be. True love will out. It always does, if it's true. If it ain't *coughxanderandanyacough* then...you know...curtains.

Just a thought. I shall return to private thoughts now.

i know someone else might jump in with this... but "As you were" is indeed a military phrase...

it's a command given to lower ranking troops after an officer/higher ranking has walked into a room without prior notice and a call to attention was enacted to show respect...

usually the order given in order to allow everyone to relax again and go about their business without interuption...

so it could definately be a Riley reference...

Missing "As You Were" will make three. She is supposed to miss three more, but she may end up doing more like she did last year.

After "Older and Far Away," she will have been in 12 eps. This will make 42 in all. Yes, I have been counting.

Agreed, Autumn. I really, really hope that when they get through with the break-up and make-up arc (being hopeful here) they'll put her in the credits and make her a reg ASAP. It's only right.

Tara is not absent however totally. There is a scene where Willow discusses with Dawn her imporving relations with Tara and is very hopeful. Amber was at Sundance when this ep was filmed.

Heh... there are those on the USEnet who use the exact same reasoning to claim that the infamous Dark Willow storyline will start with this episode. It's natural for Willow to be doing magic, they reason, and so we'll see her fall off the wagon and head down the road into darkness.

I don't think that for a second, myself... just pointing out how tricky interpretation can be.

What I think, actually, is that "As You Were" refers to Buffy in some way, since it's Buffy's show and Riley was her boyfriend. But we'll find out for sure when the episode gets here.

Isn't "As You Were" a military sort of phrase? That would have an implication connected to Riley . . .

Cool! too bad they are wrong!

I still think there is another big boom in the magic dept for Willow, but not like they anticipate..

i know someone else might jump in with this... but "As you were" is indeed a military phrase...

it's a command given to lower ranking troops after an officer/higher ranking has walked into a room without prior notice and a call to attention was enacted to show respect...

usually the order given in order to allow everyone to relax again and go about their business without interuption...

so it could definately be a Riley reference...

I don't know how I feel about Riley coming back. Its like rubbing into Buffy's face what she doesn't have. And did he know that she died? Gotta love how much he cared. But to be fair, he was probably all
commando-y and couldn't do anything even if he did know.

The Doctor? Does this mean that he will be working out of a police station call box, wear heavy coats, and offer Buffy jelly babies? If that's so, then Buffy and Riley will really have their hands full.
