WHAT is up with Dark Horse and the Buffy comics?

Postby Beautiful Tara's Girl » Sat Feb 23, 2002 4:50 pm

Seriously. Tales of the Slayers has been delayed forever, and I'm waiting very impatiently for FRAY #6.

For those of you who pre-ordered TotS online or through a catalogue, what are they telling you? Does anyone have a definite release date for it?

I have TotS. Are you in the USA though, because I'm British, so I don't know if that makes a difference. I've had it for quite a while, at least three weeks. It's brilliant, especially 'Righteous' and 'Tales' - that last bit always sends shivers down my spine, when you realise where Fray is.

the dark horse website might say that its not published yet, but it is. i have no idea about what the online shipping people do.

fray 6 is supposed to come out in march.

and if you ever want to check on comic shipping (to see if something really is coming the week they said its coming) look here: diamond comics

but comic guys arent known for their punctuality with their work. imo.

hope you get your copy of tos soon.

Also I got mine the other day as well. I'm in the US and had tried Amazon. but Amazon US also told me that they could not get it.

Several other Kitties her then told me to try the Amazon U. Looks like you might have to go through them.

Talk to you later.

TotS is yet to hit any Canadian outlets I've tried.

I'm almost on a first-name basis with some of them, I keep asking so often. I'm really very annoyed.

Where is Fray? I didn´t get it.. ;(

BTW, I thought Amber´s piece "The Innocent" was the best after Joss´s "Righteous" and "Tales", so YAY! for Amber, hope she´ll (co-) write an episode sometime!

I got mine last Wednesday, I pre-ordered... (I'm in Canada.) Distribution apparently got screwed up, but it was released in the UK some time ago and they're just getting it to NA now... You should get it within a week, depending on your comic provider's shipment schedule.

There are 2 Tales Of The Slayer. Volume one has been out in the US but that's not the one that Joss Whedon and Amber Benson are working on. The edition (volume 2 perhaps?) will be out in July, according to amazon.com.
So is the Joss Whedon edition available in the UK?

You are all talking about this comic

right? That was already available weeks ago here in Victoria, Canada. Which IS located in North America! I read some parts but decided not to buy it...

Or are you talking about another publication that I should better know about but so far haven't heard of?

Undoubtedly the delay of fray is due to Joss-as-mega-producer-creator Hollywood guy. We can certainly count that as the reason for the publishing delay.

The comic that Tarawannabe posted isn't the book I was referring to. Tales Of The Slayers has a tan or yellowish cover and is 280 pages long. There are 7 different stories in it:

A Good Run by Greg Rucka
The White Doe by Christie Golden
Die Blutgrafin by Yvonne Navarro
Unholy Madness by Nancy Holder
Mornglom Dreaming by Doranna Durgin
Silent Screams by Mel Odom
And White Splits The Night by Yvonne Navarro

No Joss, no Amber and now I'm even more confused after seeing that comic. I believe Joss is working on a similar book to this one but I had heard that Amber was writing a story about the French Revolution Slayer...and that was done in Unholy Madness.

Two 'Tales of the Slayers' books. Both are collections of stories. One is in novel form. One is in graphic novel form. The one that TaraWannabe included the picture of is the graphic novel. Also called the 'Tales of the Slayer TPB'. TPB=Trade PaperBack (Although the other book is 'trade' sized also - more confusion.)

The picture that Kakamabee showed is the cover of the 'Creatures of the Night' GSA. GSA=Graphic story album. It should be released this Wednesday, Feb 27. Check it out at Dark Horse here.

As far as Fray... well... Joss has been busy, as we all know, and that's his baby. The new Angel series that he started out totally involved with hasn't been delayed because he turned over all of the writing to Brett Matthews. He's even getting top billing now, over Joss.

I've noticed a lot of comics (not just in the Buffy-verse) aren't showing up on the right dates. I go to 2 stores regularly here in Atlanta and they have both been complaining about the distributor who is complaining about the publishers. Who, I'm sure, are complaining about the artists and writers.

Another book of interest is the single issue 'Lost and Found'. It's the first to deal with Buffy's death. So Willow, at least, should have a large part in that issue. It comes out March 13. Check it out here.

------------------
Buffy: The world is what it is---we fight, we die. Wishing doesn't change that.
Giles: I have to believe in a better world.
Buffy: Go ahead. I have to live in this one.

Yep, I've got the Tales of the Slayers novel. I really liked it. I'm still waiting on the graphic novel though. And that picture of Willow is bloody brilliant. I'm impressed.

Spoilers for TotS

Grifter, Fray is in the Watcher's Council building, I think. The book she reads is one of the Watcher's Diaries.

Well, there is a French Revolution Slayer story by Amber in the comic that I was referring to.

Good to hear that "Creatures of the Night" (which, I think, was previously advertized as "Creatures of Habit") is coming soon!

OK, what am I doing wrong? I can't see the posts that I just added to this thread by replying to J's message. The only way for me to see them is to press "post reply" at the bottom of the list. Then a new window opens with the space to write a comment (which is what I do right now) and underneath is a list of all posts INCLUDING mine. But otherwise they just won't show (which means I can't edit anything either). I hope this one finally will...

Your problem has to do with your cache. It is keeping the document in your hard drive and that is what you are seeing, it's you or your ISP doing it. Check your IE settings. To check and see if your post made it. First dump your cache, then reload. Or, replace the word fractalcore.com in the URL with novogate.com. You should see your post.

Sometimes you can force it to reload a cached page by holding down shift (or maybe it's control or alt) when clicking Refresh (or Reload in Netscape). You might give that a try, too.

It used to not reload on me when I just go back, but plain Reload has always worked (subject to weirdness where it has trouble downloading the whole page, usually fixed by another reload). Lately I've found that going back (such as to the index pages) is automatically reloading and things move around. I don't know if that was a change in the server behavior or in the proxy server at my end, but I wonder if that could be related to people not getting refreshed thread pages.
