Interesting Statistic about Gay Marriage

I got this off of the Queer Studies mailing list that I'm on.

2,000 Same-Sex Couples Marry in Netherlands
Nearly 2,000 same-sex couples married in the Netherlands in the first six
months after the country last year became the first to legalize same-sex
marriage. Same-sex marriages comprised 3.6% of all new marriages during
the time period.

Coming from Germany I can tell you: Yes, you can feel proud about it. You are way in front of us in this and other things. *sigh*

Does anybody have numbers for this in Germany? Well, heck, I´ll look them up by myself. Gay marriage became law here last year, too.

I'm from Belgium myself and I'm glad that both our countries allow same sex marriages.

It's nice to know that I can get married to the woman of my life.

Eh...The same sex-marriage still isn't legalized in Belgium
not yet...(by the end of this year or possibly next year it will be legal)

The funny thing about a great deal of the policy makers in the good old US of A is that they tend to be nationalist a-holes who assume that their way is better than the way of the rest of the world(Look at the standard system!). And they call themselves a democracy .

Does anybody know anything about s.s. marriages in Sweden?
It's a progressive country and really positive about homosexuals.
Also the swedish movie 'Fucking Amal' (alias 'Show me love') about 2 girls was really popular there, I believe it was rated nr. 1 in the box office there.

USA won't be the last one to legalize such marriages, Asia is more conservative I think.

I don't think s.s. marriages are allowed in Sweden, because it isn't in Denmark, and usually our countries tend to follow each other...

But you are right, we are progressive, even though s.s. marriages aren't allowed, gays can still live peacefully as registered partners here.quote:

Yup, Koreans still barely admit that some Koreans are homosexual, it's not their country's "problem". So few Koreans come out, they're barely given a chance to even realize if they're gay, though questioning their sexuality probably wouldn't occur to many of them, since they're just so unexposed to homosexuality (or any sexuality ) everyone's pushed to get married by their late 20s anyway. some marriages are still arranged (though not too many)

i think that many asian countries (as well as some foreign countries) do not think that it's natural for people to be homosexual, hence (like in Malaysia where I'm from) there is no talk about s.s marriages. It's also difficult to even get accepted as being gay but not yet in a relationship due to traditions and history.

I'm gay...happy to be one but cannot admit to my family or people who know my family because it's going to get me into hot soup which I'm not ready for.

s.s. marriages is far from sight in Malaysia.. that's all i know. Many people here tend to treat gay people badly sometimes. Bigotry.

i second what Shinnen said. homosexuality is always a taboo subject in most Asian countries w/c is just sad.

as for the legalization of s.s. marriages in The Netherlands, yay! way to go...

None of the provinces in Canada have legalize s.s marriage? I wasn't aware, living in a cage and all. That sucks. Of course it shocks me everytime I realize it's not legalized anywhere.

Nova Scotia has some kind of Civil Union policy, as does Ontario (to a lesser degree). Quebec is working on something very inclusive, but it has to pass through a very conservative National Assembly, so we'll see.quote:
