My sisters.

I was really lucky: my mom brought up my sisters and I to be friends. To be good friends. And even though everything from puberty to mental illness to marriage to physical distance has pulled us away from each other, there's still a deep connection. Like when Ender is given Dragon Army, and there's a wall between him and Alai, but it can't touch the roots below. It feels like that.

Earlier today I realized that this might be my 'in' to get my sisters to try My Little Pony; siblings growing older is one of the big themes of the finale. I smiled and went on with my day. Just now, I sat and wrote them the following email:

Heya girls.

I need you do me a favor. And it might seem silly, but I need you to do it anyways.

I need you to go online and watch the two part season finale of My Little Pony. You can find the episodes here: http://www.hubworld.com/my-little-pony/shows/friendship-is-magic.

When you watch, I want you to remember that I love you. That we aren't in touch all the time, and we may not even think about each other all the time. But that doesn't get in the way of how I feel about you. It can't, because you two are a part of who I am. That all of us, wherever we go and whatever we do, we're together.

All my love,
Your big sister best friend forever

By the time I hit 'send,' I wasn't thinking about how this was a great ploy to hook my sisters, or even about sharing something I enjoy with people I love. It was all about the friendship my sisters and I have been lucky enough to share.

I couldn't stop crying.

So don't just dismiss My Little Pony as a show for little girls. Friendship is magic.

ETA: I think my mom is getting a copy of this story in her mother's day card.

The Avengers.

Just saw it in IMax 3D and it was so worth the money! It was flawless. It had unbelievable special effects, humor and drama. It was so Joss and so perfect in every way. AND Alexis Denisof was in it...see if you can pick him out, I won't spoil it for you if you haven't seen it yet. :grin

Yeah, I'm still curious about these things. We don't have them in the Netherlands, and I have a hard time imagining what they would be like. Do they taste like something familiar or...? Just one of the big questions of life for me :blush

They're just like filled pastry...the taste is dependant on the flavour. You should check out ebay if you really want to try some, you can get most flavours on there...it'll probably cost €10 for a box of 8 incl. shipping and everything, but if you just wanted to try them, might be worth the one-off expense.

Hmm, maybe I'll go look for them in Amsterdam when I'm there the next time. I think they have some stores with American products. I have to make a list with American products that I should try. Do you have any more suggestions?

My doggie girl!

She's hilarious. Her name's Buffy; I didn't give her that name, she got it from her breeder, she pretty much got me into this whole Buffy-verse. One day I've said to myself - "Self, since you own a dog named Buffy, you should... try that tv show, just a few episodes." And then I was lost, but she kept watching it with me - what a faithful companion!

You can't imagine how much this hairy, crazy, intelligent, cunning and loving border collie changed my life. Thanks to her I got into writing. I forgot some things. And I'm loved. She taught me that living in the now is what's important, that the most funny thing is chasing and laughing on the meadow, that nothing is impossible and that gravity can be defied. I never believed dogs could be taught handstands or backflips before her. And I never knew that kind of unconditional love and devotion before her. I love her so much, it's indescribable. She's my girl.

(Hasn't she got the cutest smile?)

I logged in to today to find this beautiful PM from my wife (Waitnsee)... With her permission I've decided to share it with everyone...'cos she's just so darn sweet...

happy two years, darling

Emmy,

I know it's been a long time since we've communicated via the KB, but since today is the two year anniversary of when we first met, I wanted to pay a visit to that magical place. I really do feel a stronger, deeper, more heartfelt connection to the board because of you. Because of our love. I think back to those early days of getting to know each other, and it takes my breath away. You are such a beautiful, amazing, talented, intelligent woman and I feel so lucky the Universe brought us together. I've been re-reading JustSkipIt's 'Waiting For Dani' the past couple of days, and somewhere around the middle your FB started popping up. And it kinda brought tears to my eyes. It was so insightful and smart and hopeful. That's such an intense and dark story, and a lot of people seem to have a hard time finding any lightness in it. But you were finding the bright bits, and it made me smile. Cuz I've felt the same way about that story. We should compare notes sometime. Anyway, I know your interests are elsewhere right now, but I miss seeing your name on the board. Sometimes I'll wander through threads looking for you. Cuz reading your posts makes me smile.

So, yeah. Happy two years since we met. I love you so very much, and I look forward to many many years of love and fun and happiness with you.

Love,
Jen

Playing MMORPGs with my best friend, while not actually playing together (yet). Both of us online, doing our own thing, but at the same time being in Teamspeak not even talking most of the time. Just comfortable silence. A joke or just some random thought now and then. Makes my day. :)
