Breaking writers block by writing as a script

Postby drlloyd11 » Tue Sep 25, 2012 6:10 am

I'm thinking of trying to map out a fic as if it was a shooting script, and then fill in the details after.

What do people think?

I think it's an interesting concept...difficult, I would imagine (depending on length too) to go back and change it into prose, but hey, anything to get the juices flowing and ball rolling is a good idea in my book.

I'm with Laragh: anything that helps you move forward is a good thing.

That said, there is a caveat I'd like to make: careful of your point of view.

Now, I know that I'm always harping on POV, but if you initially imagine something as a shooting script, it's harder to see the story through your POV character's eyes. Things that are obvious on camera aren't always obvious to a character and vice versa.

If writing as a script comes naturally to you, then I'd just run with it and find a beta that will complement you well when you work on transitioning it.
