I had a really nice chat with my mum today. It was nice to hear about all her horses, and just talk about nothing. I love hearing how happy she is in her new life.

My classes will be over two weeks from tomorrow, my last day at my job is 3 weeks from today, and in 4 weeks I will be living in California. It's really, finally, happening, and I am so excited it's ridiculous.

My girlfriend just came out to her religious, ultra-conservative, homophobic grandmother. I am so proud of her! And her grandma says she still loves her, even if she's not happy about it. A couple months ago my girl said she didn't want to tell her until we move to the UK so that she wouldn't have to deal with it in person, and then a couple weeks ago she said she should tell her before we move to San Francisco so her grandma doesn't blame the city for making her gay, but I never expected her come out so soon. I know she's got mixed feelings about it cause her grandma isn't exactly thrilled, but I can't help being really happy that we might not have to hide our relationship.

I was out tonight for the first time in ages, I'm slighty drunk and all that shit, but talking with peeps I hadn't seen in awhile and the conversation turns into one of those honest assessments of yourself you have when too much wine is imbibed - you all know what i mean, you've been there.

Well, I said part of the reason I had withdrawn socially was cos I thought I wasn't that interesting, that I hadn't anything to say that would hold peoples attention etc - that I felt I had lost my social skills.

Mmm, big admission to say you feel you have nothing to offer - but, one friend said 'you may not say much, but when you do it's interesting, it's intelligent, considered, and pertinent.'

So. okay, we were all drunks as hell, but, it made me feel good, even if it was drunkin' shyte talk :)

I'm amazed by my life sometimes. I'm about to have an anniversary, my first ever, and our relationship just gets better all the time. And other things are really good too. I have two really good friends who are always here for me. I'm even comfortable with my coworkers, and borderline friends with two of them; admittedly it's the next to last week at my job, but the simple fact that I was able to make friends and get along with people feels really good. And my semester went well; I still have my Speech final to take, but I got an A in Microbiology which I'm really proud of myself for. I'm about to move which will obviously be a big upheaval, but I feel like I've actually got it together. I feel like... I'm a competent human being who can handle being in a new place and starting the next chapter of my life. And it's a really happy feeling.
Also I'm completely smitten and in just over two weeks I will be with my girl, so there's lots of happiness there too.

Memories of Christmas past...

While doing some cleaning and organizing, my wife came across a letter to Santa from 2007, written by our daughter who was 8 at the time. She left it with the cookies by the Christmas tree.

"Dear Santa Claus,

All I really want for Christmas next year is for everyone in my family to get an equal amount of presents.

Numbers for equal presents
9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Sinserly, J

ps. And next year I promise to be good!"

Received some sweet little christmas gifts from a friend of mine today and also some yule cards from my mum and sister and also some leg socks that I had been waiting for ages, I know it seems like no big deal but those that know me will know the significance yay no more holes lol :D I had a wonderful chat tonight with my friend Rebecca- we nickname her Bob, she has known me since I was 11 years old and we are still in cointact we dont see each other very often but she is amazing and I love chatting with her :) I have some good friends they may be not a million of them but they are worth more than a million to me. Also been invited to stay in London for some time in january, I myself am not keen on London but a friend of mine lives there and wants to take me out and about so I appreciate the gesture. :)

Sorry for the double post but I have a few reasons to be happy this morning, I got 2 beautiful Christmas cards from my niece Poppy and My nephew Lucas. I love those kids so much, the second reason is its a beautiful sunny day, its so bright outside which makes such a good change from all the rain and I made a new friend.

But you know what I'm thinking about? How much this board and this community means to me. I love the writing and the conversations about writing but I also truly love and value all my friendships. Thank you all and especially thanks to Xita.

I got some beautiful Christmas cards today. I am going to indulge in some self pride right now as I am so happy and so loved by my beautiful friends. One of my friends in her card said: "Just wanted to sincerely thank you for your thoughtful cards and ways, you truly are one of the most beautifully kind-hearted people I have come across." I thought that was just wonderful I always try to make my friends feel loved and special by any way I can and I believe if I can make someone smile or do something nice for someone then it makes everything worthwhile. Another friend of mine in a card said: "For Christmas I wish you all the best for the really amazing friend that I have and for who you really are, I don't know how to thank you for your support so I send lots of hugs and kisses to you happy christmas sweetie" Plus I got another card from my friend Faye thanking me for my healing wishes i sent her after her recent accident, she told me I am a truly special friend and she hopes to catch up soon. I am so blessed to have amazing friends. Plus I saw my mum and sister Lisa today. I got my mum a mini christmas tree with fake snow on it and she loved it it was cheap as chips as we say here, the look on my mums face was worthit she said to me "You are always thinking of me, thinking of others you are so kind" I know my mum will be slightly biased because I am her flesh and blood but it is true. I love making others happy and making others smile its what makes life worthwhile, its the whole point. I wish I had more people in my life in various ways to share more of that with but I am happy that those who know me and have me appreciate me and my gestures. Sending everyone on this board lots of love xxxx

I had a really nice Christmas with my family. I think it helped that my expectations were low, but it was also just... happy. My nephew is gigantic and beautiful and fun! I got to chase him around and tickle him. And we had lots of yummy food, and my family liked the half-assed last minute presents I gave them. My parents even gave me a nice suitcase that will be helpful for moving! One of my sisters even got me a present which was a nice surprise as they all usually forget me-- it was just money and a card, but still, it was nice to be thought of. I got good wishes from everyone, and I'm glad I got to see them before I go. Best of all, it was good to see them but I'm okay if I don't again for a while; they're my family, and I (usually) enjoy them when I see them, but we'll never be close and that's (finally) starting to be okay.

I was finally able to schedule an appointment with the artist I want to do my next tattoo. I've been looking forward to this for years, but only recently made the effort to contact her. She's the one who changed my view of tattoos, because until I met her my parents had raised me to think they were expensive, useless decoration that people just wanted to look cool. I'm so excited!!!

I had a great Christmas my family loved their gifts and I loved mine as well :) Good quality family time too :) and on boxing day I saw my niece and nephew and my sister Jane and we had a second christmas and exchanged gifts they all loved all their gifts which I am super happy about as I always put extra thoughts into Poppy and Lucas's gifts and they were amazing to be around. ( they stayed the night at my mums house along with my adorable step-nephew jensen and his parents so that meant I had to share a bed with my sister Lisa but that was fun and hilarious) and I have seen my brother and his gf twice seen they have been back in the country, today was one of those days. I hung out with them and one of my brothers friends and we went out for mexican food and to the cinema. I was so tired I fell asleep during the film but it was so funny, my brother knows me so well and our humour is exact and I get along with his gf great as well :)

Last night my girl and I went to see The Hobbit, and it was amazing! The movie was great, and time with her was even better. We had another date today, and I should get to see her tomorrow too, on her birthday. Seeing her is... better than just about anything.

what a wonderful Christmas and boxing day we all had, despite my mum and Lisa and I all being poorly right now I am looking forward to what 2013 has to bring us, out with the old and in with the new. I can't wait to embrace the experiences. we have a ritual in our house well my mums house of opening the back door and letting the old year out and the new year in. I will do that when I get to my flat too. 2012 can kiss my arse. Hello 2013 nice to meet you may you fill my heart with deserved love and allow me to give it again to someone who deserves it without fear, not just romantic love but friendship- love too. I feel like Buffy when in hush she loses her voice because I cant speak due to being sick but inside I am glowing thinking of the future.

My niece was bat Mitzvah this weekend. It was just wonderful and lovely. She chanted a wonderful Torah and Haftorah portion and spoke wonderfully. We had a great time with lots of family. We got to see my brother's family, sister and her daughter, sister (the mom of the Bat Mitzvah), my father, my step-mother (mother's partner) and two of my first cousins (one I hadn't seen in about 6 years), and my aunt and uncle. Plus some friends. It was just so wonderful.

You know 2013 started out iffy for me, but has turned around dramatically. I had lunch yesterday with someone who has so much meaning for me. I hadn't seen this person in 4 years. Seeing her was wonderful. So many things are different for me in regards to her. Not different in a bad way but rather good.

There are some people in your life that are special in a way you just can't explain. Even if that same person hurts you and disappoints you. Once you get past that hurt you realize it doesn't matter because of the way you feel about them. The regard you have for them. A person that hurts another doesn't necessarily make them a bad person. We all have our moments. In the end if the wonderful things about them out weigh the bad then you can get past many things.

Thank you my special person for making January 17, 2013 a wonderful memory. Your friendship means the world to me.

Gallifrey is almost heeeere! A whole weekend filled with Doctor Who goodness and time with my girl. Costumes, Whovians, panels, meeting/seeing Sylvester McCoy and Freema Agyeman and Frazer Hines and Peter Purves and Debra Watling and Philip Hinchcliffe and Mark Strickson and Michael Jayston and Phil Ford and Gary Russell and Daphne Ashbrook and Mark Shephard and Nina Toussaint-White and loads of other people whose names I can't think of but will be excited to see nonetheless! We've had our hotel booked since April and it's finally almost time. Just 23 days to go!

Oh, and I also got a job, but Gallifrey approaching majorly overshadows that.

It's been snowing the last couple hours, just lightly but it's still great. I also had a good chat with my mum earlier, and found out that her uncle's health is getting better and he may even be out of the hospital by now.

I am super exhausted, but had a great holiday. For the first time ever I stopped at Chicago O'Hare Airport. Man, I fell in love with that airport for some reason. It's pretty tight and I was all tourist in there. lol

I even stopped by and ate at Macaroni Grill where the server and hostess made my day there extra cool. My server who I thought was from South America, was actually from France. Her Spanish was sooo good that I was in shock when she said France. I did something I never had done before, I had her pick what I was going to eat and surprise me by bringing it out to me. I'll admit it was fun doing that, and I was totally Ratatouille. I had a good buzz going from the Italian beer that I tipped her good and ended up tipping the hostess too. There are many ways you can take advantage of me when alcohol is involved. :P
