The perks of being gay

The place for kittens to discuss GLBT (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered) issues as well as topics that don't fit in the other forums. (Some topics are off-topic in every forum on the board. Please read the FAQs.)

Or maybe you are already a dyke inside a man's body. Let's see... do you wear wife-beaters, jeans, cargo pants? Would not be caught dead with your legs shaved or wearing makeup? And most important – are you attracted to other women?

If you answered yes to all or any of the above question, you might very well be a (slightly) butch dyke who is really trapped inside a man's body. I mean, pfff, gender!

I, for example, have always thought myself to be a MtF transgender, who just accidentally happened to be born a woman.

We interrupt this stimulating discussion of gay perks, lesbians trapped in guys bodies, MfFs born female, and sweet, sweet grrl-asses :drool

. . . for a GG pet peeve: could we please retire the phrase "wife-beater"? I know it's all retro-Honeymooners or whatever, but it's just a seriously *unfunny* concept, on this or any other thread. I think "tank top" works just fine (despite the military association). Or maybe "basketball shirt"? That's also descriptive. Anything other than that "Ha-ha, this is the kind of sleeveless-shirt worn by a drunken lout who engages in domestic violence, ha-ha" nick. :miff

GG . . . let us now resume reciting the many pleasures of being a grrl into grrls (inc. those who just wannabe!) :heart Out

Psssh, interrupting our slavering for an ethics discussion. But I agree with you, "wife-beater" is a pretty tasteless term. I don't wear them though, whatever you may call them, so it doesn't matter to me. I prefer muscle shirts.

Re: mmmmm

Postby Mrs Vertigo » Mon Nov 03, 2003 5:11 am

Oh, I stand corrected; it is a gross term. :sigh Tank-top it is.

*shrugs* I don't wear them much either. And the single really-real, erm, basketball T I do own has "kiss me I'm BUTCH" printed all over it.

Now another perk of being gay would be calling all your straight friends 'breeder' and 'primitive'…and then when they call you 'dyke' in return, give them that face :happy – you know, that face. That it's-not-funny-when-YOU-say-it-you-oppressive-prick face. :rofl

finally someone who is put that view forwards. im sick of this sex obsession men revolve around which may be one of the reasons i turned gay. What is wrong with having a relationship which isnt based around sex. someone who just has to hold your hand and you melt. As long as someone can make you happy. sex is a technicality. anyway sorry im going on. just wanted to applaud you for your thoughts.

Erm... there are a couple of things I'd like to comment on in your post. But either way, I think a more suitable place for that - posting your view on the subject and then discussing it - would be in The sexual ethics thread.

'Sides :wink , why don't you come in the Introduction Thread and tell us a little bit about yourself before we plunge right into the murky water of sexual ethics. Plus, hey, WELCOM TO THE KITTEN BOARD SWEETY!

No having to take precautions if having sex. I'm sure I will be picked up on this, that there could be risks having lesbian sex, but I can't get pregnant, which is good !

All the usual stuff like soft bodies and lips. Knowing how another girl's body works.

Hey,

Wow... A lot of people here are very happy to be gay, which is a very, very good thing... And yes, there are some very good things about being gay. Lot of things I think about as perks were allready metioned here, but I'd like to add something:
One of the things about being gay is that there are (unlike with straight couples) no 'traditions' or social rules. Okay I just realise this might be interpreted wrong, so I'll clarify:
There's for example marriage. In a man/woman relationship it's allmost allways men that are expected to propose, so mostly the woman just has to wait. In a gay relationship either partner can do it.
Then there's kids. Um, I don't know exactly how the system works for America and such, but in Belgium you allways have to give the father's last name to the kid. In a gay relationship, you (again) have a choice!

But hey! I love straight people (I mean, my parents are straight) but I just really, really like being gay :party

Btw I really liked this one too:
The mirror game from the gay point of view that helps to increase our tolerance threshold.
Less killy, more frilly

-Willow and Tara

-The kittenboard, and the wonderful kittens I've met

-The weeding out of crazy conservative uber-religious types in my life (really, letting people know upfront that I'm gay is so helpful in figuring out if they're jerks I don't want to know)

-Broadening peoples' minds and views

-Being part of awesome communities

-Memories with both my ex's

-Crushing on the same women as your partner, and having it be totally okay (My ex and I were in love with basically all the same characters and famous folk, and it was great!)

-Being able to crush on women *and* their clothes with your partner

-Greater comfort in being naked around partners, due to less expectation of perfection

-Being able to love kids, and even know you want them someday, without your partner freaking out thinking you want to have babies asap (I'm sure there are *many* exceptions to this, but it seems to be common for guys to flip over gfs loving children)

-No standard roles in relationships

-Boobs (I know practically everyone in this thread mentions them, but seriously... they're amazing)

As a random sidenote, much as I love women, I think if I were a guy I'd probably be gay (or maybe bi, cause it is hard to imagine not loving women!). There's something for me about the connection with your own gender, plus I wouldn't trade getting to be part of the GLBT community, even if it can make life harder now and then.
