Game of Thrones

I hope that many Kittens are watching this wonderful series.

It should be noted that it has a gay storyline: The younger brother of the late King Robert, Renly, has been carrying on with one of his knights, Loris (known as "The Knight of the Flowers"- get it :eyebrow ). Anyway, this has made for some interesting complications with his recent marriage, since he can't...um...consummate his relationship with his wife (played by the very pretty Natalie Dormer--some people say she looks a little like Alyson Hannigan).

Anyway, it's a story worth following. :)

I couldn't help but notice some interesting parallels/differences between the most recent "Game of Thrones" episode and BtVS.
THE FOLLOWING ARE SPOILERS FOR ANYONE WHO HASN'T SEEN SEASON 3/EP.9

Needless to say, all of us who were BtVS followers (especially of W/T) are accustomed to the sudden deaths of favorite and/or well-known characters. There is, however, an important difference: George R.R. Martin has spent half of an entire book ("Storm of Swords") preparing his readers for the "Red Wedding"--anyone who read the text carefully, as well as the first two books, knew (or could figure out) that the scene of horrific murders of some supposedly "safe" characters was coming. Thus, although the viewers were still shocked by the gory-ness of the action, we were emotionally ready to see it. Above all, the deaths were not just senseless murder that came out of nowhere.

Now compare this to the absurd and pointless occurances in BtVS's Season Sux. Unlike JW, GRRM has no desire to alienate a significant portion of his viewers.
