It's a holiday so I worked 1/2 the day and left work at 1:00. I rode my bike, showered, did laundry, emptied the dishwasher, watched an hour of So You think you can Dance with the family, fed the kids, cooked one of my favorite things (potatoes, onions, and kale), ate my dinner, watched the rest of mad men, cleaned the kitchen, and entered receipts in the checkbook. I'm about to start putting the kids to bed.

God 3 extra hours in the day is amazing!

It's my nephew's birthday today, 2 years old which seems absolutely crazy. I was feeling a little sad that I hardly get to see him (I visited home for a whole month in May and only got to see him once, the first time since Christmas), and that he doesn't really know me and maybe never will even though I love him to pieces, so I was looking on facebook to see if there were any new pictures of him. He apparently spent last weekend with his dad's family celebrating, and there were tons of pictures from his different adventures; I was already smiling at how frickin adorable he is, and how much fun he has in his life, when I realized that in the pictures of him making his birthday cake (with a lot of assistance obviously) he's wearing the shirt I got for him in Montana. Now I can't stop grinning cause... even if it's a tiny thing, it made me feel like I'm part of his life.

I've got an article review due tomorrow for my Biology class, and I need to cite a couple sources I've used to clarify terms, so I grabbed an old research paper of mine to refresh myself on MLA. I wrote the paper 2 years ago, when I was still studying Child Development, before switching majors to Nursing. On the Works Cited page there are a few very positive notes from the teacher, the last of which is "Are you sure nursing or pediatric doctor isn't your career goal?" Considering I'm now working towards Pediatric or Neonatal Nursing, this made me really happy, and helped remind me why I got into all of this in the first place.

Besides Billie Holiday and Hulk Hogan taking me to my happy place. :P

I'm just blessed. It's that simple. Surrounded by so much love, good peeps, have good income coming in, all sorts of things have been consistantly falling into place. I'm not just talking about recent events but for quite some time now. I guess it comes with age and being able to appreciate things more. I'll be 31 in September and I'm only getting better. I'm not afraid of age, but people have been getting thrown off that I'm even 30. So I guess I'll take it as a compliment. :P I'll be in Canada in 28 days for 21 days. 3 weeks of doing one of the many things I do best...have fun! I'm mentally preparing for my first ever bungee jump. I am Batman!!! :D

This weekend I met one of my absolute favourite actors, the seventh Doctor Sylvester McCoy. It was amazing! I got my picture with him and the TARDIS console from the TV movie (which cost waaaay too much, but I so don't care), he played spoons on my shoulder during a panel, he made a funny face at me, and I got to see him ask to borrow a full-size TARDIS prop for a picture and put his hat on the eyestalk of a Dalek. And his panels were amazing! In addition to playing spoons he impersonated a Dalek, zoomed all around on his wheelchair, sang, answered my question, and was just all around hilarious and awesome. Other highlights of the Convention were Jewel Staite's Q & A, where I discovered she is almost as adorable as Kaylee and is actually a fan of Firefly, all the amazing costumes I saw both at the Masquerade and throughout the weekend, and meeting new people with way more comfort and ease than I ever have before-- to the point where I came out of the weekend with 3 new sort-of-friends.
The week before the Con I spent at my mum's and despite loads of bug bites had a great time hanging out with her, and now I'm visiting home for a week before heading back to school. Last night I even stayed up until 1:30 having a great chat with my stepmum, which was especially wonderful since she and I don't always get on. All in all, life feels pretty good right now, or at least closer to good than it has in several months.
Things aren't perfect; I don't like my college or my job and sort of wish I didn't have to go back, but I'm having a great trip, and most of all I'm feeling happier about myself than I have in quite some time. I can meet people and make friends, and I can have an amazing weekend all on my own, and I can think about my ex and how much she'd have loved the con without getting bogged down in it or crying over missing her. It just feels good to finally be mostly okay inside :)

Knowing (happy) secrets is kind of fun! Tonight I visited my old roommates, who are a couple (and my awesome friends), and first A and I sneakily talked about her plans for S, then I told A that I know about a costume S is planning and A freaked out; it was so much fun! I never have fun secret plans, so it was great getting to share in theirs, and be the only one at the table that knew it all :D

I had an amazing day with my family, and my nephew is seriously the cutest thing in the universe. I was mostly focused on the little one so didn't spend a whole lot of time talking with the siblings, but it still felt so good to just spend an afternoon with everyone. And for the first time ever, it felt like my nephew knew me; we played with his sand and water tables, he gave me hugs and kisses, and he let me help him go to the bathroom. He talks so much now! He's barely 2 and already has sentences! Seeing him play my dad's guitar was one of the most adorable things ever. And he knows us all by name (though he can't always say them), even my brother and I though he doesn't see us often. He is sweet and happy and healthy, and he is a gigantic ball of energy, and I am a proud proud auntie.

So, so happy my holiday is finally here. In a little over 15hrs i'll be on a plane to JFK and then a connecting flight to Montreal.

Gonna see my peeps and have a blast.

I can't wait to meet up with Vi again, better known here as Nimloth, and the ultimately cool, and I suspect nuts, BeaneathMyWillowTree, the lovely Jen. :)

Wish it was Thursday so I could've posted this in the Thurdsay thread, but, alas, we can't have it all.

Today I got to see one of my dearest friends, the only person I know where I live now, and I met a friend of hers who was a lot of fun. He's also the president of their Uni's Gay/Straight Alliance and said there are students from my school in the club (since we're a little Uni and don't have our own), so I might get to join!

My aunt had a minor surgery today and it went really well. It looks like her cancer isn't as scary as the doctors first thought! She even gets to keep one of her boobs for now, which she seems pretty excited about.

On a completely unrelated note, I had a girl freak out over my TARDIS tattoo today, and yesterday I talked with a woman who works in the dining hall about Doctor Who for around 5 minutes. I love finding other Whovians!
