Trying to read the poem "My Last Duchess" by Robert Browning for a class. I can make exactly 0 sense of it beyond that most of it is a guy talking about a painting and the subject of the painting.

Jas - I think part of the point is that he thinks of the subject of the painting as a possession as he does the painting.

I'm reading The Art of Fielding which is quite good. I'm enjoying it very much.

I think you're right Deb, but it took me reading it 3 or 4 times to figure out even that much! It was an interesting poem to discuss in class, but I can't say I enjoyed it.

A few nights ago I was feeling lonely, so I started reading Harry Potter again; I don't care that I've read them too many times and I just finished rereading the series two months ago, it feels like visiting friends.
Also, tonight I finally finished a Doctor Who novel I'd been reading for weeks called Deadly Reunion, and I'm finally nearing the end of Crime & Punishment. I guess books taking a month or more to read is what I get for reading 6 at a time!

I asked a KB friend if all the lesbian romances she reads are kindle or real and if kindle can she loan me a couple. Obviously she didn't know that 1. the loan expires in 2 weeks and 2. you can only loan the book 1x. So she loaned me 13 books. I'm reading a bunch of lesbian novels and they range from ok to pretty good. Currently I'm reading Chaps which is very good.

Also my birthday is Thursday and Rachel is giving me a low-end kindle. I've been resisting it but I decided to try it rather than reading on my phone and we are considering getting the kids ones for Xmas so this means they can try out mine and see how they like it.

If I may ask, what's Daughter of the Blood about? It...it sounds like a Vampire book...I like vampire books :P

Nope, not a vampire book, but it is fantasy--one of the bestest fantasy books ever! Basically it's about a world where most people have magic, but with all different levels of power (based on what jewel colours they wear). The series is called The Black Jewels Trilogy, cause the girl who's at the center of the story wears black, the strongest jewel. There are are lots of awesome magical creatures that she's friends with, as well as other people. It can be very dark, but there are also bright bits, and it's all just fantastic.

Uh, I see. The title sounds like a Vampy type book though, you can't not tell me that :P Thanks for the explanation :)

I started the "Practical Magick" novel today, the one the movie was based off of. I think I saw the movie once when I was little, but I have no memory of it.

You're not wrong Colton :) But, 'the Blood' is what they call people with magic, rather than a vampire thing...

OiTNB was very good. Very different from the show but very good on its own. She really displays tremendous growth as a human being.

Now I'm reading Terrier by Tamara Pierce.

Tamora Pierce was my favourite author as a kid! I haven't read Terrier though.

I've finally finished Ghosts of Albion: Accursed, Ghost Ship, The Iraq War Clinician Guide, and the first Black Jewels book, and read Murder in the Dark.

Currently reading: Game of Thrones, The Hunger Games, A History of the Universe, the second Black Jewels book, What is Found There, and Divided Loyalties (another Doctor Who book). Oh and a guide on PTSD.

Jas - I liked it a lot and will definitely read more of her stuff. My wife loves the Black Jewels series.

Now I started Adaptation by Melinda Lo. I think I've had it on hold for like 6 months and I had nearly forgotten it when I got the e-mail.

Deb, how are you liking your kindle? I got an old 4th generation kindle and have been absolutely loving it. Just finished Orange is the New Black today on the subway. I enjoyed it but thought it ended very abruptly. Slowly making my way through the rest of my book club readings.

About to finish The Dovekeepers which I've been working on slowly for the past month.

I like the Kindle very much. I still don't want to buy many books but our library has quite a few for loan and you can get a Prime title each month for free (as a loan). I read OITNB last month and agree about the abrupt ending. Rachel actually got a Kindle last weekend as well and is loving it. She reads a lot of the free books and fan fic level stuff and was running down her tablet battery like 2 or 3 times a day.

I finished Inheritance yesterday. It was not as good as Adaptation. And I just checked Bulldog by Tamora Pierce out from the library (instant kindle loan).

When She Woke, by Hillary Jordan.

An excellent dystopian novel.

Set in Texas after the Christian Right have come to power in America.

Hannah Payne has never questioned anything she's been taught.

Until she wakes up in prison, her skin chemically altered to a vivid red, so that all who see her will know the nature of her 'crime.'

Thought provoking and a little too plausible for comfort.

Divided Loyalties (still), Game of Thrones (still), Pride & Prejudice (for about the 8th time!), The Pirate Loop, and Timewyrm: Revelation.

It's awesome to be reading Pride & Prejudice again, I've missed Eliza and Darcy!
Timewyrm: Revelation is also pretty fantastic so far.

I might reread One of Ours in the next few weeks. It's super sad but wonderful, and my stepmum has a copy I can borrow while I'm home.
