I got a raise. Huh? What? I got one 6 months ago after 4+ years without one. I didn't even know my name would be thrown into the ring this time so it was a total shock. $195 a month!

One week down, 15 to go! I still feel insanely behind in Choir, but it's fun anyway, and my other classes are going well so far. I even (mostly) like 3 of my 4 teachers, and to my great surprise I'm enjoying my English class. Maybe this real-full-time-college thing won't be completely miserable after all :)

I love when a community comes together for a good cause. There are so many amazing, strong, loving people in the world and it's nice to be reminded of that from time to time.

After a few months of not being ready to do it, yesterday my wife said "or we could pull out the carpet in the living room!" Woo hoo. We did the entire house except the living room 2 years ago but have been waiting. The carpet in there was newer than the rest of the house but it's still 6-8 years old and has been through 2 puppies, 2 geriatric dogs, and 2 children potty training. So lots of yuck. Now we're in the hard work of scraping and scraping but I'm just so happy that we're doing it. I feel like I can breathe better already.

I came back from vacation last night and everything is yet to sink in. I had a great trip and amazing experiences. It was awesome meeting other kittens. Having my friend Josie from home tag along was a blast too. This was my last trip for this year and boy did I make it count. In a few weeks I'll be 31 and plan on doing something special. 2013 has been a true blessing for me.

The other day I spoke to my sister on the phone. I hadn't spoken to her in a few weeks which is unusual. It can be so tempting to let Facebook fill people in on news but, really, you have to commit to speaking to people too. Anyway... so we were discussing injuries and healing, school, and Chiara starting dance and gymnastics next week. And my sister was so excited and I think offered to buy Chiara something for her dance class but I thought she was just asking if she needed anything out of curiosity. Anyway, she was awesome. So then she asked about Asher and activities and I said that right now we are just trying to work with him in the house and he really can't handle activities or other kids (he is having some very intense anxiety issues right now). And she just said "well, that's best. Because you can't just tell him, 'hey, suck it up and do this'. You have to take him where he is and just let him grow as he does." I nearly started crying. I think that years ago she was pretty critical and we didn't feel all that supportive from her regarding him. This was just... so wonderful and so loving and so accepting. After I got off the phone, I told Rachel and her mouth just hung open. Then she had me send my sister a text telling her how much we appreciated her support. It was just... so wonderful.

I'm not loving my life right now, and I've had a lot of bad moments lately--awful moods, anxiety, depression, feeling worthless... Today I had more crap come up.
And then I got a care package from home--not from my parents, but my old roommate. There was nothing terrible special (except a miniature sonic screwdriver she'd offered to send me as she had a spare), mostly snacks and random office things, but it meant so much, especially with the letter explaining that the things she sent were picked by family tradition. She and her girlfriend are like family to me (I doubt they see me the same way, but it doesn't matter really), and it meant a lot, and it felt good to be reminded there are people that care. Then tonight I got to talked to my best friend, which is rare right now as she's on a 550 mile hiking trip, and it was nice to actually have a friend for half an hour. I mean, I have two great friends online that I talked to almost every day, but... I'm still lonely as hell. For a little while today I didn't feel quite so lonely, or quite so miserable, and it was nice.

The Nurse Practitioner at my Student Health Center says my moles just look like moles and not to worry (just monitor them to make sure they aren't growing); while I knew they were probably fine, it's still quite a relief! No skin cancer for me!

Today in Composition, my prof read bits of some of our in-class essays to show us A-level work. When he read part of mine, he commented "Okay, this person should be an English major." Easily one of the two best compliments I've had from a teacher in years. Then tonight, I auditioned for musical theater, and after I sang my Choir director looked at me with a very odd expression and told me, "I didn't know that voice was in there." Apparently, it's make-Jas-feel-better-about-self-and-life day!

Good! As you should be Colt. ;)

As for me walking around without a worry in the world. I know nothing about stress or unhappy feelings. There are things that I can't control, but I refuse to allow them to dictate my mood. I'm like Popeye, "I am what I am." Or something like that. lol Certain people gotta meet me halfways until then I'm just doing my thing. My thing just happens to be awesome!

Two years ago we began the long and hard project of tearing out the carpet in the house and staining the concrete floors. It took us a few months of weekends to do the 2 kids rooms, rumpus room, our bedroom, library, and office. That was after I'd been suggesting it for a while. Oh and we also did my closet because it is contiguous to the bedroom.

Then last month we did the living room (the carpet in there was newer and it has a huge entertainment center that we were not excited about moving). The only carpet left in the house was Rachel's closet. Her closet is about 5'x5' or maybe even smaller and is connected to the master bathroom so not contiguous to other concrete (there is ceramic tile in the bathrooms, kitchen, foyer, and hallway). When I mentioned it she said she didn't want to bother with it and didn't want to take the stuff out of her closet. That's when I hatched the plan that the next time she went to help out her parents, I would do her closet as a surprise.

Yesterday she and Chiara and the puppies went to the farm. I told the kids it a surprise/secret project. Yesterday I moved her stuff, pulled the carpet, pad, and tack strips and got the paint about 1/2 way stripped (when they built the house they got paint all over the floor). This morning we went to buy a new paint scraper and I finished scraping, stained it (with whatever color we had which turned out to be Burgundy Wine), sealed it and TA DA. I've got a fan blowing in there and I think I won't put the stuff back because I want Rachel to see it and get to put her own stuff back.

Asher let the cat out of the bag but she was surprised and I'm so happy to have finished my weekend project before 1:00 on Saturday.

My mum's coming to visit! I haven't seen her in a couple months, and I'm excited. She's coming to see me in a Cabaret, so I just hope we do well! We had our first show tonight, and it wasn't great but it was a lot better than I feared, so I think by Saturday it might be actually good :)

I'm getting closer and closer to accomplishing my goal. I've been going hard and it's paying off literally. I still have until the end of this year, but I am really proud of the progress I've made so far. I'm living a certain way to become a different person in another way. It's a thing of beauty.

Yesterday my wife called and asked me what the $80 by the cookie jar was for. I was like ... uh... I have no idea. It was in an envelope and when I got home I saw that it had my brother's handwriting "Thank you" written on it. So now I vaguely think that we watched their dog and they insisted on giving us money which I think we never looked at and just set it there. Like months and months ago.

So basically found money.

Where some fail others prevail. I am touched by the love and support that I have from many people. I've been going through a lot of emotional hard times these past few months, but it's getting easier. I am still loyal to certain people despite the circumstances, but things are different. Some things have been lost and may never be recovered. Truth is it's okay. I realize that other people's definition of me is to make themselves feel better; in the end I have to define myself. I am happy to be here yet another day and to remind those around me how wonderful they are. In doing so they give back to me too. I love you for that. You're the ones that prevail. For those who have failed, I still love you, but you're going to have to come to me now if you want something. I am no longer eager to wear my heart on my sleeve for you.

Being married is one of the greatest things in the world. Right next to watching my favorite softball players on the field, reading an amazing book, and spending time with my family. She's the greatest person I have ever known. Its incredible to find someone who really gets me, and we have the freedom to be ourselves. It also makes me incredibly happy that my family loves her. I know even from heaven my grandmother would tell me how much she approves.

In less than 24 hours my semester will be over! And if my last final goes well I should make all A's. Then I get to go home for month, and I just made awesome plans with my old roommate to with her to a Con (which will cost too much considering there won't be any Doctor Who or Buffy people, which are what I usually go to Cons for, but it'll be super fun anyway so who cares), and I'll get to babysit the girl I use to nanny and hang out with my best friend for the first time since May, and see family and other friends, and eat Tex Mex and my favourite tacos, and just have a whole month to be lazy and have fun.

Also, I told my crush that I like her, and though she doesn't share my feelings she's not bothered and still wants to be friends, so hopefully I will get to hang out with her some next semester :)
