Alright, Mrs. gorn really outdid herself, even for a Thursday. She bought all the stuff to make three-day chicken curry (three days because she cooks it in a big pot and it takes three days to eat it all), but because she came home late she didn't have time to start it. Not an easy meal to cook on a weeknight, to be honest. Just using stuff we had in the house, she comes out with one of the best Italian meals I've had in a while. Mind you we live in rural Kentucky, so good Italian food is hard to come by.

There's a grocery store up in Bowling Green that's slightly better than our Walmart, and some time ago she bought (among other things) a few packs of frozen mussles and a California-style frozen pizza (spinach, no red sauce - Boschi gives me a hard time because I don't eat vegetables, but I do like spinach). One pack of mussles was left, she cooks it up with pasta and some kind of light wine and garlic sauce. Not really a sauce, though. California spinach pizza served on the side, a glass of wine each, it was fantastic. Seriously, I don't order pasta when I'm out - even when I'm out somewhere good - because I get great pasta ALL THE TIME at home.

I just finished my chocolate bunny from last Easter. I was having a rough time last Spring, and my best friend surprised me with it; I think that's why I held off on eating the last bits for so long, cause it was a happy memory. But, right now life doesn't suck and I wanted chocolate! It was still delicious at 11 months old.

Penne pasta in a homemade cheese sauce with grilled chicken breast strips, carrots, peas, and corn. Yum Yum!

It was hot and muggy today, not a good day to grill outside, but I did it anyway. And everything was great. Nailed the steaks, chicken wasn't dry, and the outside of the kielbasa was burned just enough to upset Mrs. gorn but taste delicious to me. Also grilled a squid for the first time, turned out better than expected. The marinade on the chicken was something else, though. I usually just buy something, whatever looks good, and go with that. This time, though, I used Yoshida's Marinade Sauce as the base, but I threw in two shots of bourbon, a whole bunch of worcestershire sauce, and big dash of Tapatio. I really had no idea what I was doing and didn't measure anything, but it was awesome. Gonna have to make a habit of this.

I think the next thing I want to try is making my own cornbread muffins, crumble them up and pour those Southwest Grillin' beans all over them. Mix those beans with bourbon, too, I'm thinking. Bourbon is pretty goddamn great.

Lovely breakfast this a.m. at the Rosebud cafe in Jackson, CA. Farm-to-fork scrambled eggs, garlic 'smashed' potatoes and sinfully salty (but tasty) linguica.

whoa, double-posting in this thread.

Hungry Man Fried Chicken Dinner. Done in the microwave because our oven is kerfunkled.

Oven is far superior in every way to the microwave. Microwaves make me sad.

Triple post! But given the two year gap, I'm gonna cut myself some slack.

This is going to sound maybe a bit strange to those kittens out there with kids ... but I just had a pizza at Chuck E. Cheese and it was pretty good. Either they've stepped up their game, or it's been SO long since I've had a decent pizza that I don't know any better anymore.

So naturally the supermarket has had easter eggs everywhere for a couple of weeks because holidays start as soon as the previous one's finished, and yesterday on the way in to work I succumbed to temptation and got a little bag of eggs, which I've been snacking on now and then. They're nothing special, just your regular old chocolate eggs. The thing is, it just occurred to me today, they're not properly egg-shaped - not chicken eggs, anyway, they're too tall and narrow. In fact they're much more like what I think of as raptor eggs a la Jurassic Park, and they've got your traditional reptile-ish scaly egg pattern... and when I thought that, it occurred to me that as long as I can remember, easter eggs have always had scale patterns. I'm kind of wondering now, is this something the rest of the world's been fully aware of all along, and I just never noticed? The easter bunny is some kind of dinosaur?
