I was in San Francisco, cold, overcast and somehow I loved the cold gray day.

Just to be clear, I was not singing into my pillow, I was singing to my pillow, telling it how pretty and smooth it was (because I had defuzzed it earlier)

Whenever I read a recipe that calls for eggs being whipped into stiff peaks, I always think I've opened fanfic accidentally for a very confusing moment or two.

My sister and I are going carve a pumpkin this year. Always wanted to and last year it didn't happen so this year I am going to enjoy it.

So funny story, there's a roundabout just outside where I work, and just as I was closing up and heading home today, the driver of a big long box truck decided at the last second that no there wasn't time to sneak through in front of the next car that had right of way, and slammed on his brakes hard, whereupon there's this epic crashing sound from inside the truck as some incredibly heavy cargo goes sliding all the way from the back of the box and smashes full-force into the front of it right behind the cab. And then he calmly drove off, like he hadn't just done something I'm pretty sure I saw them do on Top Gear as a joke.

That roundabout in general just constantly reinforces my feeling that no I don't want to get a car.

I was finally getting to sleep last night when I suddenly bolted upright remembering that when I'd been in the store earlier that day, I left a pack of bread in the baking section. I picked it up to ask someone if it was the brand they wanted, and it wasn't, so I went to put it back and stopped by baking to get sugar. I put it down to decide between two sugars and forgot all about it, just leaving it there when I put my sugar in the basket.

I'm sorry, store workers, that I'm one of those assholes :(

This was a pretty random moment - I'm moving my website to a different server (no change in url or anything, it should just go down for an hour or so then come back same as always) because I called the hosting people about a minor issue, and they said "Oh wow, your website's on a server so old it's already been shut down, dismantled, and the metals recycled into engine parts of a hatchback car in India, which is somehow still hosting your website..." Anyway, years and years ago when I was toying with the notion of writing a Willow/Tara Star Trek series - which I never got around to actually writing, but I did use the setting for Stardate: Christmas Eve - I put together a little mini-website for it, with character profiles and a few graphics of the ship and so on. Always assumed it went along with everything else when my old Windows 98 computer finally gave up (which was in like 2009 or something), but as I was copying across 5000+ files today and wishing I'd had the foresight back when I started the site to organise it better than 'just put everything in the root directory', what do you know, there are the old Trek files. So if anyone's curious here it is.

Clouds in the sky - me not aware, just glancing up and being quietly shattered by the beauty of it all.

Sticking to the cloud topic (but with a more nerd twist), I idly glanced up while I was walking down to the shops, coming up to sunset, and the slice of sky I could see between buildings on either side had an arc of cloud lit up pink, looking very much like the edge of a colossal red planet in the sky. And I've watched too much sci-fi, because for a second until the thought 'it's a cloud' turned up, my brain just kept idling along without finding anything odd about the sky containing a planet at close range.

This was pretty random - since I've got a website with my email address on it, I periodically get spam from people/spambots who are really enthusiastic about helping me increase my google rankings or bring in more customers or whatever. Today there was one offering to be my website's exclusive supplier of cowboy hats :hmm

Looked at some old pictures the other day, and it was strange to remember such happy times with someone who is no longer in my life. I still believe I made the right decision, but I feel sadness over what once was.

I had a random moment last week that resulted in me almost cutting off my right index finger. Ok, maybe a bit of an exaggeration, but it was deep enough to where I was able to see the bone. Luckily it wasn't a very long cut and only needed five stitches. It was a freak accident that involved the heavy ceramic lid of our toilet, wet hands and two plastic containers of baby wipes. It was quite possibly the dumbest, clumsiest thing I've ever done.

This sounds like the opening to one of those Sex Sent Me To The ER shows.
