Go on

I awake to the beat of a scream

Sweat beads upon my forehead

What seemed so real in dream

Vanishes from the side of my bed

My heart races, rapidly thru my chest

Struggling to return to sleep

The good die; blessed

Yet I cant fight a weep

Words crowd my sanity

Malt beverages quench a thirst

No longer apart; reality and fantasy

Why wasn’t I first?

The television stares thru static

Pictures rupture my memory

Rats scurry beneath the attic

Life and its poetic tyranny

Photo frames, flipped to hide the face

Dust gathers upon the empty bed

Lonely teddy bears stare through space

Silently awaiting the dead

Broken stairs rest with a creak

Chipped paint like confetti upon the wall

Candles flicker, trying to speak

Lavender burns; ashes fall

Skin sticks to the sheet

Dents; where she once lay

I, in my bed; numb from crown to feet

Struggling to make it another day.

Pain

Cold against my breast

piercing

against the brick

I am beautiful

I am falling in love

Your steel

shining

comforting in my darkest days

burning in my sleep

I am falling in love

You enter my soul

breaking

tearing

haunting my words

I am falling in love

Visitor

you come often

yet I have not seen your face

have only known your touch

clinging

I am falling in love

Brightening the blind

your blade

cuts deep

shining

I am falling in love

Crimson memories

atop my clothing

mindful of

spilling dreams

you are careful

and

I am falling in love.

Under your spell

Invoked by the beauty

I can’t get you off

my mind, my fingertips

beneath the thoughts

you see

your smile left upon my lips

you have devoured me

kidnaped my sleep

and I surrender my blinks

to your memory

where you have stolen

my chance to weep

your exotic eyes

cater my beating heart

swallowed by empty skies

you have spread my soul apart

and made yourself the laughter

inside my tongue

and the moan and sweetest purr

vibrating from my lung

my blood is filled with delight

lonely in your pity, in your comfort

it flows, but not right

blocked from passions port

layered within your caress

betrayed within your eyes

it is true, I confess

I have tasted your dark cries

you are alive

glueing the broken word

love is for what I strive

because within your spell

I am captured.

For Me

Fingers fall before they touch

the pale cheek of the sun

reckless in color, vibrantly lush

wet, trembling tears run

-but you are not crying for me

Sprinkled with uncertainty

longing for your companionship

summoning the absence within me

wiping the answer from your lip

-but you are not crying for me

Staring at the calmness of little

drops dancing in regret

in young hearts, old and brittle

memories tiptoed when eyes met

-but you are not crying for me

Swallowing. Find your voice

tell me. tell me. no, wait

breathing without choice

hope crumbles from the weight

-but you are not crying for me

Forgotten in your eyes

moving. realizing. hiding

deny the wildness in my eyes

rippling. dreaming. deciding

-that you are not crying for me

The Dead

Shadows beg for color

shivering in the frozen eyes

roses and beads, pray for the other

for the emptiness over the cries

catch a glimpse of the still heart

imprisoned within sleep

whispers push the mournful cart

full of the dirt that weeps

for the sound of pain, left to cover

dark hairs with dusts’ of gray

rotting with smiles when flies hover

smothering decency with decay

raw with silence and sound

no tongue to tell fragile fibs

or gasp when love is found

beating against steel ribs

gaunt faces stare from the crowd

burned by envy’s gleam

misery’s snivel echoes loud

amid the nails beat into the dream

taste bleeds, tied to the bedpost

dripping into the wine of memory

offered to the lips of dark ghosts’

resting against the Yew tree

under the shade of death

intimate confessions drift into tomorrow

black books snatch away the last breath

lapping at the blossoming sorrow.

Western Eyes

She awakes bare

lonely

unworthy

she is beautiful

she is dying

and I want to caress

those eyes of fire

clinging to fresh darkness

lost in her desire

and embraced

beneath redemption

where dreams chased

her smile

through every dimension

but she is dying

burning in temptation

she is closer

fading

in front of my imagination

pleading in my vein

she is sweet

sour

and dying in my pain

fighting

destroying

she is losing control

falling to love

entering my soul

she is hollow

unreal

this is the beauty I know

blinding

yearning to fill

the dying space

that numbs

erasing

what we were

for when night comes

fading

I will die with her.

Hi Yvonne, I just caught up in all your poems. I'm sorry I missed so much (it's never going to happen again) but I just thought I should pop in and tell you how much I love your poetry and that I haven't forgotten them. I can't decide which one I like the best but I really like Confessions. Great job! :)

Blame

I wrote to escape you

to scribble in a new face

to remold you into what I knew

for love to reclaim its place

my excuses are stained to this paper

leaking from my pen are tears

retracing the smiles until meanings blur

and I am left foolish among my peers

so many times we tried to reconnect

but you scream and I betray

now the pain outweighs the respect

how can we ever trust what we say

clear in your eyes, I am below, yearning

disguised in my heart, you are above

hidden to ourselves, we are burning

before we know the meaning of love

so spout your wild promises

and I will only believe the lies

accept my eager kisses

though you see the truth in my eyes

searching in vain, for something deeper

together, we are wrong, flaws unseen

so tired, together, we’ve grown weaker

the happiness is over, only lived as a dream

I learned your ways by watching you

haunted by each imperfection in my sleep

forgiven by the only prayer I knew

twisted by the beliefs you keep

so read these words with your own truth

crumble the paper but the hate is the same

forget my inexperience and tainted youth

forget me, forget us, forget the blame.

It's human nature to place blame, and it's always a difficult thing to deal with. :( Nice work.

hi there.....*Bell claps* :applause :applause :applause

Oh man, *on the verge of passing out* these, like ALL off these are really good! My absolute favourite one is Pain. You just captured the 'pain' no pun intended (rolls eyes... im such a bogan) of being in love like perfectly. You know when someone writes something and it just touches you? Well, you did that with that poem. I thought it was just soo amazing. The way you choose your words is soo clever, like, so many hidden meanings and they flow so perfectly.

Well yea, that's enough of my babble haahaha, i tend to go off on tangents sometimes, its dangerous when there's no one here to stop me lol. So yea, keep writing okay?! Your poems get me through the boring/busy/depressing/tough/most any type of day

Desert

Your death made me a woman

born from a child’s fairytale

released into the desert

of torn paths

and shallow waters

drifting

in your wishing well

forgotten

with the delicate misery

folded so closely

against the fragile tears

that shelter the thorns

of my resistance

and suffocate the burden

of truth

so easy to hide

who wore the mask

so hard to find

the broken hope that struggles

to ask

the solid caress

to gently touch the small dreams

that crumble less

when left in the streams

of sand

brought to the surface

delivered by the pale hand

that pushes down

and pulls the grain apart

eager to remold

and swallow up my sinking heart.

Wow.......

'Desert' is powerful, the last line really helps you to feel how you felt when writing this, well done!
