Things I Need To Do Tomorrow, Since I've Wasted Today Sleeping And Playing on The Internet - aka 'Girly Cleaning Frenzy':

1. empty the ducted vacuum catchment thingy **DONE**
2. vacuum the house **DONE**
3. clean the bathrooms **DONE**
4. clean cat slobber off the windows **DONE**
5. do the washing, else I'll have no clean clothes to wear, and it's too damn cold to walk around naked **DONE**
6. mow the lawns **DONE**
7. trim back the jasmine growing over the shed so I can get the mower out **DONE**
8. fight my way through the jasmine to get to the shed, so I can get the hedge-clippers (which are in the shed) in order to trim back the jasmine **DONE**
9. swear at the postie, cause he keeps moving a stone marking the boundary between my front yard and my neighbour's so he can ride his bike through. He's wearing a rut in my naturestrip, the fucker. **DONE - a LOT**
10. go through the various piles of paperwork on my kitchen bench and in my spare room, file those to be kept and recycle the rest (don't like my chances on this one - it's on every list I make) **HA!**
11. try to talk myself out of staying up to watch the Socceroos play Brazil (it's starts at 1.30am on Monday morning), cause I need to get up early on Monday **well, I kinda fucked that one up**

Things To Do On Monday:

1. call recruitment firm to set up appointment so I can sign all the paperwork for my new job **DONE**
2. go to recruitment firm and sign all the paperwork for my new job (since it has to be completed on Monday) **DONE**
3. go pick up paperwork for police/security clearance for my new job **DONE**
4. find the time to actually turn up at my current job **erm... didn't quite manage that one**
5. call real estate agent to see if I can arrange to meet them for the house inspection on Tuesday (cause I don't trust anyone, and don't want to leave them unattended with My Stuff) **erm... no**
6. go home and vacuum again (I only have 2 cats, but every few days there's enough cat hair lying about to make a third one) **DONE**
7. general tidy in preparation for house inspection **DONE**
8. last minute panic about house inspection **DONE, without major loss of sanity or limbs**

Things that the cat had gotten into - all before 1pm:
Or "Black & White cat: Free to any home!"

1. Found cat treats after breaking into cabinet and ripped into them - 2 bags of cat treats no more.

2. Got into the cabinet under the sink and got trapped (no pun inteded), needing to be rescued.

3."Found" the turtle, jumped onto the top of tank, only there was no top. Fell in head first, scrambled out then sulked for 15 minutes under the bed soaking wet. (Wishing I had a video camera, because I'm still laughing)

4. Decided he hadn't caused enough trouble and tried to climb the screened chameleon cage. Now there's big gaping holes that have to be patched before the crickets start escaping. (I guess that's a whole other list)

5. Ran through the little pile of dust and pet hair I was sweeping up, thoroughly dispersing said dust and hair. Ok, ok...it wasn't such a little pile. :p

6. Turtle tank, take 2: snagged one of the feeder fish and ran off with it. Now, I don't know if he actually ate the fish or played with it until it died and left it somewhere. I'm hoping it's in the same place he took the 2 lizards last week.

Things I could do during the baby's nap:

Go get my car's oil changed.
Go vacuum wife's car
Test out my new pillow by taking a nap myself.
Watch the 2nd half of Prime.
Wrap the presents.
Clean up.
Workout.
Work on the baby blanket.

Same list in order of liklihood:
Go get my car's oil changed.
Watch the 2nd half of Prime.
Work on the baby blanket.
Clean up.
Workout.
Go vacuum wife's car
Test out my new pillow by taking a nap myself.
Wrap the presents.

Well, I was going to follow the sci-fi trend and list every Doctor Who book that I own... but given that I have all bar 8 of the original TV series novelisations (i.e. up to and including the 7th Doctor), and the complete set of initial New Adventures (through Virgin Books - before BBC pulled the licence), plus numerous others (Missing Adventures, new series BBC adventures, novelisations of radio plays, etc)... well, it would take a while. :p

Instead, I think I'l go with something much more frivolous - a list of my Top 5 Celebrity-Type-Women that I would hook up with, if ever the chance should arise. Not that it ever will, but a girl can dream. :p

1. Amber Benson
2. Alyson Hannigan
3. Clea DuVall
4. Sally Hawkins
5. Alicia Molik

Intermittently Claudia Black also keeps popping into my head, and may serve in rotation with numbers 4 and 5. But the top 3 are always the same. ;)

Items I am donating to the fundraiser at work (“multimedia”)

1. The Secret History by Donna Tartt – I really hated this book even though it was a X-mas present from a friend.

2. Baby Mozart DVD – Totally stupid and Asher hated it the 2-3 times we ever turned it on.

3. HeartBreakers DVD – Cute but not worth owning. (a thanks gift)

4. Original Sin DVD – Ok but again, not worth owning (a thanks gift).

Lullaby by Chuck Palaunick
The Nanny Diaries by Emma McLaughlin & Nicola Kraus
Out by Matsiro Kirino
Playing with Boys by Alisa Valdez-Rodriguez
Dirty Girls Social Club by Alisa Valdez-Rodriguez
Loose Woman by Sandra Cisneros
Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Philosophy by James B. South
One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

Re: Lists

Postby Artemis » Tue Jul 11, 2006 8:03 am

List of comics outside my regular buys (She-Hulk, Ms Marvel, Daughters of the Dragon, Witchblade) that I've tried out recently:
  • Supergirl: Angsty, sci-fi, pretty cool. Not sure I like where they're going with the storyline, there's only so much 'Oh how shall I deal with the darkness lurking in my soul' that I can take from Supes, and that's basically been all that the title has done in the first seven issues. I hope they get onto something else soonish. As a bonus though, Power Girl co-stars, and she rocks. Continuing to buy.
  • Thunderbolts: I normally don't like 'team' books - with with heroines being a minority, and me not really caring much for the guys, it's usual for a team to be 3/4 characters I don't really care about, even if there's a superheroine involved that I like. But this may have some promise - there's two characters I find intriguing, one of whom is in a leadership position (and thus more likely to be featured regularly). Continuing to buy for the next few issues, at least.
  • Hawkgirl: I like her in the Justice League cartoon, but not so much here - the art isn't really my style, and the storylines feel kind of generic, like they could happen to any superhero. Shelved indefinitely.
  • Thing: Hilarious, a great celebration of fun, escapist adventure with a heart. Sadly on hiatus at Marvel, but may return if the trade sales are good. I'm hopeful.
  • Supergirl and the Legion of Superheroes: No relation to the other Supergirl - or rather, I think it's meant to be the same Supergirl at a different time, but she behaves nothing like the other one. Too teen-drama, too much a team-oriented book. Plus, while I can live with '-girl' as a super-suffix (as 'girl' is often used as the equivalent to 'guy', thus it doesn't invariably denote childishness), the Legion's roster is filled with '-boy's and 'lad's, neither of which I can stand. Shelved indefinitely.
  • Wolverine: Stylised manga-influenced art isn't quite my thing, but I can live with it. I don't find Logan especially riveting, but there's a strong core character to him that means I can happily read about him in small doses. Continuing to happily buy for the length of the Civil War storyline, but shelving after that.
  • X-Factor: Stylish and sarcastic, with lively writing, but far, far too enmeshed in the X-Men area of the Marvel universe for me to really get into. I like the movies, but the X-Men comics have never gripped me the way they do a lot of people. The art is interesting, but not especially attractive. Continuing to buy for Civil War, but shelving after that - I'll miss Layla Miller though.
  • New Avengers: Another team book, and though the iconic status of the characters - Captain America, Iron Man, Falcon et al - lends a certain weight to the story, I still don't find them interesting enough to slap down $6.25 a month. Purely a Civil War purchase.
  • Fantastic Four: It's good, but the current issue irked me by saying that Thing hadn't been to temple in 'a long time', when in Thing's own title set directly prior to Civil War we see him having his Bar Mitzvah (for 13 years after being 'reborn' as the Thing). It wasn't a crucial plot point, would it have killed JMS to check with Dan Slott about what was in Thing's book? Civil War only.
  • The Amazing Spider-Man: Engaging, one of JMS's better efforts, but the simple fact is I'm not going to keep buying a book with only one hero, who's male. Civil War only.
  • Devi: Interesting start to Virgin's effort to get itself a foothold in the comics industry. Targeting the (ginormous) Indian market primarily, with western countries included as secondary markets, they're drawing on Indian mythology and storytelling heritages as their source material, using that as the basis for modern characters and concepts. The art is pretty sweet, and Devi has the potential to be unique, but if mishandled it could easily devolve into a clone of Witchblade. Continuing to buy, and hopeful.
  • 52: DC's big event. I think Marvel came up with a better model - Civil War is a 7-issue mini-series, with almost 70 issues of various other books linking to it in some way - it's a massive amount of story, but the compactness of the core mini-series means that each issue of Civil War itself rockets along like a fast-paced thriller, lending a tremendous sense of energy and urgency to the tie-in books. 52, being published one issue per week for a year, has similarly enormous scope for storytelling, but the method of its delivery means that its scope gets offered up in drips, and it's by no means guaranteed that the storyline I'm interested in (Renee Montoya) will feature prominently, or even at all, in any given issue. Continuing to buy throught to issue 11, when the new lesbian Batwoman will be unveiled (we got a sneak peek at her in #9), but if that turns out not to impress I'm not committed to the whole 52-issue run.

The Life Aquatic Soundtrack
