HEY PEOPLE!!! IM BACK!!!!!!!!
AUTHOR'S NOTE:: I used the name of one of the Slayers from Tales of the Slayers....I toyed with it, of course, only really used the same and a vague description of who she was, nothing else...just thought I'd let you know...
Anyway, I'll leave you to the Chapter....
CHAPTER 31- The Fang-GangWillow opened the door. Cordelia and Angel were standing in the doorway. Cordelia smiled slightly while Angel was looking around, as if to control nobody had followed them. The Elder vampire was holding an old leather backpack and looked slightly nervous.
“Hey, guys. We were waiting for you,” Willow said.
Cordelia entered the house.
“Nice to see you, Cordy,” Willow said and gladly accepted the friendly hug from the Seer.
“Nice to see you again, Will,” Cordelia said as she looked around. “Nice house.”
“Thanks.”
“Willow, could you…invite me in?” Angel asked from the doorway, still looking around.
“Right, Angel. Sorry. I invite you in, Angel,” Willow said.
“Thank you, Willow,” Angel said and entered, feeling the invisible barrier disappear.
After closing the door, Willow led them to the living room. The redhead went back to the dining room and brought another two chairs for them.
“I’m hungry. Pizza sounds good, guys?” Willow said and sat on the arm of the couch.
“Um, Will…”
“Yes, baby?” Willow looked at her girlfriend and Tara made her leaned closer.
“Can you order one with ketchup for me?” Tara whispered shyly. “I’ve wanted ketchup all day long.”
“Anything you want, baby,” Willow said and smiled.
Willow kissed Tara’s cheek and left the room.
“So, how are you, Tara? How are the twins?” Cordelia asked and gave her friend a little smile.
“The twins are great. We found out the sex of the twins today, actually,” Tara replied.
“That’s great. So what are you having?”
“Boy and girl,” Tara said and couldn’t help to smile.
Cordelia’s smile grew bigger.
“Congratulations, Tara,” the Seer said honestly.
“Those are wonderful news, Tara,” Angel commented as well.
“Thank you, guys,” Tara said just as Willow came back to the living room.
“The pizzas will be here in 45 minutes, guys,” Willow said as she sat down next to her girlfriend and went back to their previous position.
Faith and Dawn looked at each other. Faith raised an eyebrow.
“45 minutes,” the Slayer whispered.
“Yeah…let’s go!”
“Be right back, guys!” Was all Faith managed to say before being dragged away out of the house by Dawn.
“Merciful Zeus!” Xander looked at Willow horrified. “They’re starting to act like Buffy and Riley!”
“Guys? What did just happen?” Cordelia asked, confused.
“They’re sex buddies,” Anya replied.
“They’re girlfriends, Anya,” Tara corrected her friend.
“Girlfriends?” Cordelia asked.
“That is…very surprising,” Angel added automatically.
“Right there with ya, buddy,” Xander commented and nodded.
“Wow. Really? They’re dating? How did that happen?” Cordelia asked.
“Slowly,” both Willow and Tara said at the same time.
Giles finally cleared his throat and everyone looked at him.
“Could we pay attention the pressing matter?”
“We’re going to eat first, Giles,” Willow said.
Giles and Willow locked gazes and finally the older man nodded.
“Alright.”
*********************************************************************************************
Half an hour later, Willow and Xander entered the living room holding four pizza boxes each. Willow went to get drinks to the kitchen while Tara sent Faith a text message letting her know the food was there. Willow came back with drinks for everyone and five minutes later Faith and Dawn entered the house again, looking flushed , and in Dawn’s case, blushing like crazy.
They ate in silence, all thinking the same thing: What did Angel have to say? None of them said anything though. They all just ate in silence. Willow smiled to Tara when the blonde tasted her pizza with ketchup, she loved it!
After eating, Willow and Tara took the empty pizza boxes and the plates to the kitchen. When they came back to the living room, Angel opened the backpack and pulled out a thick old-looking book. He placed it on the now clean coffee table.
“The Order of Judas…” Angel said and for a moment seemed struggled to speak.
“Wait, is the same guy from the Bible?” Xander asked.
“No. Judas was a vampire, an elder. Nobody knows about who he was or his name before being turned, all we know is that he was a very dark Warlock. He was around 2000 years old when he finally died,” Angel explained.
Angel opened the book and showed them the portrait of a handsome man in his thirties. His eyes were black just like his hair and they could see the merciless expression on his face.
“2000 years old? That can’t be, the Council has no record of such vampire existing,” Giles said, shocked.
Angel looked at him.
“No offense, Giles, but the Council knows nothing. They don’t know what lurks in the shadows of the shadows,” Angel said with a firm but kind tone. “Judas didn’t like to be seen or known, only other vampires knew he existed. And he didn’t like to have minions.”
“Angel, may I see that book?” Giles asked and extended his hands.
“NO!” Angel’s face adopted an alarmed expression. “You would have to kill me.” Everyone looked at him. “There is a spell on the book. Only vampires can touch it and to do that you have to kill the owner. I’ve been protecting this book almost since I was turned,” Angel explained.
There was only silence because what could they say to that?
“So what about this Judas, guy?” Faith broke the silence.
“Like I said, nobody knows anything about his former life. All we know is that he was a Warlock. In his young years as a fledge, he was vicious and merciless, stronger than any other fledge because of his magic. He-”
“Angel, maybe you should skip that part and go to the most important one,” Cordelia cut him off.
“Of course. In the 19th Century, he was around 2000 years old and he was facing the biggest challenge a vampire can face,” Angel said.
“A Slayer?” Faith asked.
“Eternity,” Angel replied.
“Eternity?” Dawn asked.
“...Imagine you’re a 2000 years old vampire. You have seen Centuries go by like water between your fingers. You saw the world changed, the people, the fashions, the habits…everything…but you. You’re still the same. With your old habits, your old way of thinking. You’re still the same…The vampire doesn’t change, it’s a reflection of their time, of the person they used to be, of the society they left behind. Elder vampires can go for weeks, ever months without drinking blood. The blood lust of the fledges is long gone, the joy of…doing terrible things to others is gone as well…”
“There aren’t records of vampires that old because they lose the reason to live…right?” Tara asked, having a gut feeling.
“Exactly.” Angel nodded. “The vampire loses the reason to exist, the eternity becomes unbearable…an enemy worse than an army of Slayers,” Angel explained.
“So what? He killed himself?” Xander asked.
“No. He met a human, a woman.” Angel turned the pages of the book and showed them the picture of a young beautiful dark-haired woman.
“She became his reason to exist, right?” Willow guessed.
“She knew what he was, she understood and still asked to be turned. He had found a mate. And with the company of his fledge mate, everything returned. The blood lust, the joy, everything,” Angel explained and fell silent.
“But she died, didn’t she?” Tara guessed and she was almost sure she was correct.
Angel nodded.
“Three years later, yes. They had killed an entire village together so the Slayer started to hunt them down. The Slayer killed her.”
“And with his mate gone, his reason to live was gone as well,” Willow said.
“Not exactly. He had a new reason: revenge. That Slayer wasn’t stupid, she had seen his magic. Buffy wasn’t the first one to receive help. The difference is that the Council didn’t know it. This Slayer had the help of a sorcerer. I don’t really know what happened but that same day, he killed the sorcerer, then he killed the Watcher and finally he tortured and killed the Slayer. After he was done…he saw the first dawn in 2000 years…”
“Wow,” Dawn breathed out.
“That sounds like a Mexican soap-opera with fangs,” Faith commented and Dawn looked at her.
“It is kind of romantic though,” the former Key said.
“You’re crazy, D? It’s kinda sick,” Faith contradicted her.
Giles cleared his throat when Dawn was about to respond.
“Right. So what’s up with that dude and the vamps now?” Faith asked Angel.
“As I found out later, his mate hadn’t been the only human he turned. He had one child. I don’t know his name, all I know is that he’s called the Disciple. He created the Order of Judas. Every 100 years, they try to open one of the Hellmouths. The last time, in 1910 the current Slayer stopped them in Cleveland.”
“Millicent Rose Gresham,” Giles said and Angel nodded. “She was a travelling Slayer. She travelled with a carnival side show,” the Watcher explained to the others.
“Exactly. I’m not sure how she did it, or if the Council have any records on that battle, but she did. Giles?” Angel looked at Giles.
“Um…I must take a look at my books. I’m afraid I don’t remember ever reading about such battle,” Giles said.
“And they’re going to try to open the Hellmouth again, aren’t they?” Dawn asked.
“That’s what they want,” Angel confirmed.
“Opening this Hellmouth would be…terrible. Hell on Earth,” Giles said.
“Why this Hellmouth? There are several in different places. Why this one?” Xander asked.
“Haven’t you heard a word of any I said during all these years?” Giles looked at Xander. “The Hellmouth works in a similar way to the Slayer. Every Century, only one Hellmouth is available. There are several around the world, but only one is activated. And this is the biggest one.”
“So, what do we do now? When is that anniversary?” Faith asked.
“Three months from now,” was all Angel said.
And everything was silent…Nobody knew what to say or do. They had faced so many enemies before, but everything was different now… before Tara wasn’t pregnant, before Dawn wasn’t Faith’s girlfriend…before it was all different. Most of them were thinking the same thing, including Faith herself, but nobody was willing to say it out loud…Would Faith be up to the challenge? After all, that would be Faith’s biggest fight…
“Are you going to stay here or go back to LA?” Willow finally asked, breaking the silence.
“We’re going to go back for now, but we’ll keep researching and I’ll talk to Lorne,” Angel replied.
“How can you be so sure this event will take place in three months?” Giles asked.
“Because I’ve been having visions about it for the past week. It will happen in three months, Giles,” Cordelia interrupted.
“So why did they attack us four? They attacked Red, T and I. At the same time, they attacked D. That attack wasn’t random, that attack was planned,” Faith said, sounding mighty pissed.
While everybody wondered why, Dawn had placed on Faith’s thigh. The former Key leaned and whispered.
“Calm down…all of us are okay. I am okay. I won that fight, remember?” Dawn said. The more time they spend together, easier it was for her to read Faith and her expressions and moods. She had instantly sensed the pissed off undertone in her girlfriend’s voice.
Faith leaned in to whisper as well.
“I know but I can’t help it. Nobody touches my girl, damn it!” Faith whispered rather harshly, louder than she intended to.
Silence followed that statement…Dawn blushed and ducked her head a little. She felt extremely touched for a second, Faith really cared for her. Faith stopped looking at the floor and noticed how everybody was looking at her, so she cleared her throat.
“Anyway, why do you think they attacked us?” Faith asked.
“Perhaps they attacked you, Willow and Tara because you three represent the biggest threat for them,” Giles suggested.
“Willow and Tara are the two most powerful witches in town, after all,” Xander commented.
“Willow alone is one of the most powerful witches in this side of the world,” Anya spoke for the first time in the whole night. “No offense, Tara.”
“None taken, it’s true,” Tara said. “I’m not that powerful.”
“I’m not!” Willow exclaimed. “I just have more…fire power to fight but I’m not that powerful.” The redhead looked down for a second and then she looked right into Tara’s eyes. “I’m not.”
“You are, you just don’t know it, but you are,” Tara said.
Just as Willow was about to contradict her again, Dawn interrupted her.
“Why did they attack me, then? I’m not powerful, I’m…useless to them. Why attack me? I wasn’t even there with them,” Dawn said.
“You were attacked alone?” Angel asked, surprised.
“I had to stay for a bit longer in school. When I was walking to the parking lot, I saw a vampire from the corner of my eye so I had the stake ready,” Dawn explained.
“Did you dust him?” Cordelia asked.
“I did. The bastard got me first but I did.” Dawn pulled the hair out of her face and showed them the thin almost invisible scar. “The jerk had a mean kick, but I kicked him back.”
“Who taught you to fight?” Cordelia asked. She was sure Buffy hadn’t taught her little sister to fight.
“Giles.”
“And I must admit I have no idea why they decided to attack you,” Giles said.
They fell silent again, all pondering what they would have to face and what they would have to do to beat it.
“Are you guys staying for the night?” Willow once again broke the silence.
“No, we must go now, actually,” Angel replied as he closed the book and placed it back in its place inside the backpack.
“We’ll come back in a few weeks. We’ll keep researching,” Cordelia said.
“Fang-boy.” Angel looked at Faith. “You’re gonna fight this one with us?” The Slayer asked.
“I will,” was all Angel said.
There was an unspoken understanding between them in that moment. Angel was keeping his promise. He had promised to help her, to watch her back… And he hadn’t forgotten it…
