Board is back up - updates

So you should notice a lot of changes. I wanted to get it back up as soon as possible. I'll be working all day to fix some general things but problems should be ongoing. Feel free to PM me or any of the mods. Email if you can't get in, xita at thekittenboard followed by .com

HTML is no longer valid. BBcodes are currently being update. Stayed tune for fixes on that. If I forget a BBCode, let me know, they are fairly easy to add in this platform.

There are a couple of different styles be sure to try them all out, you can change that setting in your control panel.

I will make new posts with new messages.

In addition to the kitten theme that is installed as your default, you have 2 more options (for now, might have more later).
Dirty Kitten
Prosilver

You should be able to click on that link and get a preview of the different themes. Those 2 themes above take advantage of the new phpbb3 features.

Then you can change it in your user control panel to make a permanent change.

Side note... unfortunately the change has done horrible things to the old threads/fics that came over from previous versions of the board and used HTML... Loads of tags at the tops,
all through it and in the comments etc. I'd clean it up myself (in my old fics) but unfortunately one of those moves stripped away the control over the threads and we can't ask you guys to 'moderate away' so much stuff (even if the code was stripped out on find replace it would need reformatting/spacing) so I guess we'll have to live with it. Just think it will stop people reading some of those older stories if they aren't already looking for them.

It's a trade off though, if it provides better functionality here and now then we have to look to the present.

Believe me I noticed those things when I did a practice run. We talked about it and decided the greater risk was losing this for good because we were running such old software. If you can point me to the threads when you still don't own your own posts, I can change that. And that goes for anybody. If you want control of any of your old posts, I will try to fix it.

We're working on stripping HTML out of these older posts. I would not mind more volunteers on that end. It's my goal to get those old fics cleaned up.

I switched over to "Dirty Kitten" and it looks great.

I really like to new look of the board... at first I was all "Ehhh! What the frilly heck?!" but only because I abhor (all) change but now I'm really diggin' the new... (have I mentioned, yet, how long it took me to switch from dial-up?)

And... I'd just like to thank Xita and all the wonderful MODS who keep this board going... I don't know what I'd do without my favorite place on the internets.

Which board style are you using?

Everyone should go to your profile to select and view each of the available board themes. There are three options and we may add more later. (I'm using Dirty Kitten) Please keep in mind that things are still being tweaked so any comments or suggestions will be all lot of help! Send a PM or post them here, Thanks!

I really like the dirty kitten..it's lighter n brighter color then the previous board..
still need some adjustments here and there for me to find the linked captions..
but it's great

Hi,

There is one thing that I'm hoping can be fixed with the smiley icons. No matter where your cursor is, when you click an icon it places at the very beginning of your text. So, it's really annoying when you are trying yo place one at the end and have to scroll back up to find and erase it. Hopefully it's an easy fix:)

You might already be aware (or made it this way deliberately) but you can't add more than 5 url links to a sig (and I have 8 left over from pre-update) but I can't add anymore...

If you had 8 before, I don't see the problem. It's probably some default that I didn't set, I have changed it for you. So re-add them!

Ok, I went and tested things out and it works for me. The smilies get placed wherever I place my cursor. What style are you using and have you tried different brosers? I am using firefox 4. If I find different results on different browsers. I'll report.

I am all for feedback, I just want to make sure we are talking about the same thing. From what I see, the links are underlined when you see them in a post, are those the links you are talking about or different links?

I'm glad to see current work being done to keep the site happy, but I am sad to see the old quirks gone. I guess that is just me being nostalgic.

It was extremely helpful for me (the stalker that I am) to be able to find a member's active stores (on Pens) as well as the archived ones

2. Can I also help clean up the archives of residual HTML coding? Specifically I'd like to clean up Leave it to Giles, which is a favorite of mine that I'd like in readable form. PM me on the procedure here...

Yes, it's done. now. I figured out how to do this mod anyway and now you can search user topics. Let me know if that doesn't work. If you don't see it, clear your browser cache.

Hi,

I noticed that since the update I cannot access the board after midnight (cst) to around 1am-ish. I'm not really sure when it becomes available again because I usually just give up and go to bed. I've tried several different browsers, but none work. Just wondering if the board or me.

I've been experiencing this as well, and about 70% of the time, if I try to load up the board during the downtime, when I finally can get on, I have to re-login, even though I have it set to remember me.
