Sweet movie date, but it seems like angst is on the horizon.
Possibly a little angst but you’re right. It won’t be anything these two can’t handle.

Wonderful chapter. As far as first dates go, I think this one was pretty perfect.
Such kind words. And there will be an explanation to the issues between Willow and her family in the coming chapters. Yes the gay thing will come up but there's much more than than. This chapter will start to provide some information.

Ahh, your writing is so descriptive, I love it.
Thank you very much. That means a lot. And I love that you pulled a Friends moment out of the bag. Especially Chandler, as he is my favorite. Lol.
SMGOVAN – Thanks. Yes, but all of Willow’s stresses will be explained.
edob – Thanks for reading.

Chapter 14
“She’s been a bad girl, she’s like a chemical… Though you try to stop it, she’s like a narcotic… You wanna torture her, you wanna talk to her… All the things you brought for her, puttin’ up your temperature.”
“You know Tara new music has come out since 1982,” Faith said from the passenger seat, her eyes still closed.
“Sorry, did I wake you?” Tara asked as she turned down the radio, still focused on the road, turning a faint shade of pink in embarrassment from being caught singing along.
“No,” Faith said, finally opening her eyes and adjusting her seat to see the road. “I’ve been awake for about three songs now.”
“And you let me just sit here and sing along that whole time?”
“You seemed to be enjoying yourself. I didn’t want to bother you. You do a great Elvis Costello,” Faith said with a smirk. “Where are we?”
“About half an hour away,” Tara answered.
“Awesome,” Faith said, reaching for the water she’d brought with her. They’d decided to leave earlier than planned and got on the road at around six that morning, knowing that the drive would take about four hours and hoping to get in as much time with the Maclay’s as possible. “Do they have any plans for the weekend?”
“I’m not sure. I didn’t talk to my parents, just to Donnie.”
“That’s really great about him and Carly. Maybe he’ll get lucky and get a boy. He’s seriously getting outnumbered in that house. Between Carly, the girls, and the two dogs, estrogen is running rampant. Poor guy.” Tara just laughed at Faith’s assessment. “So were you working late last night?”
“No.”
“I’m not trying to be nosy. I got home at like eight and you still weren’t home when I went to bed. I just figured you were trying to get as much done as possible before this weekend.”
“No.” Tara paused for a moment before continuing. “I was out with Willow. We went to a movie and then had a drink.”
“Oh that’s cool.” Faith took a sip of her water before continuing. “Again, I’m not being nosy here. I just want to make sure… she’s treating you good right?”
“Yes,” Tara said with a chuckle. “I mean, not that we’ve been dating that long, but yes. It’s been very good so far.”
“Good,” Faith said, turning her attention back to the road, effectively ending her questioning. The two continued on the drive for the next twenty minutes, singing along with the radio and making small talk. They arrived at Tara’s parents farm and made their way up the long driveway towards the house that her grandfather had originally built.
Tara parked her car off to the side in the gravel driveway and the two climbed out, stretching their limbs for a moment before making their way up the white wrap around porch that her father and Donnie had refinished last year. Tara was about to knock on the door when it was opened and she was pulled into a hug from her mother.
“Tara! Oh we’re so glad you came,” she said, rocking the slightly taller blonde back and forth in the doorway. “And Faith! Oh sweetie I didn’t know you were coming.” She let go of her daughter to pull the brunette into a similarly bone crushing hug.
“Hi Carolyn,” Faith said, smiling over the slighter woman’s shoulder at Tara.
“Oh I’m so glad you two made it. Come in, come in,” she said, taking each girl by the hand and pulling them into the house and into the kitchen where Tara’s father stood at the counter, pouring himself of cup of coffee. “John look who’s here.”
“Ah, two of my favorite girls,” he said with a smile as he put down his mug and stepped forward, hugging each girl in turn.
“We thought you were coming down later,” Carolyn said.
“We decided to leave this morning instead,” Tara explained as she took a seat at the breakfast bar in the middle of the kitchen.
“Well we have the whole weekend planned. It’s going to be great. Let me just call Donnie to let them know you’re here,” Carolyn said as she scurried from the kitchen, her husband and daughter just smiling at her excitement.
“I hope you’re ready to be run ragged,” he said as he turned to the two younger girls. “She’s got about two weeks worth of stuff planned.”
“Guess I better have a cup of coffee then,” Tara said. “Or ten.”

Willow scrambled up the stairs from the basement, tossing the t-shirt she’d been folding onto the dryer, as her cellphone rang insistently from the kitchen.
“Just a minute! Just a minute! I’m coming, I’m coming,” she yelled as she reached the top step and darted towards the kitchen counter where the device sat. “Hello?”
“Willow? Are you ok?”
“Tara hi! Yeah I’m fine. I just ran up the stairs and am now just realizing I’m completely out of shape,” the redhead joked as she took a deep breath and sat down at the kitchen counter.
“Sorry,” Tara laughed. “Are you busy?”
“No not at all. How was your drive?”
“Good. Long but I think that’s just because Faith slept for most of it so I didn’t really have anyone to t-talk to.”
“Well I’m glad you got there safely. What did you guys do today?”
“Ran all over the greater Lewiston area,” Tara joked. “I th-think my mom miscalculated how many hours there are in a d-day. And she’s got tomorrow and S-Saturday already jam packed.”
“Have you seen your nieces?”
“Yeah. P-Peyton’s helping my mom make c-cookies right now and Heydon’s playing with Faith and my dad’s new puppy in the backyard. I just snuck away for a m-minute to c-call you.” Willow smiled at the admission.
“Well I’m glad you’re having a good time.”
“What are you doing this weekend?”
“Buffy asked me to go shopping with her tomorrow after work. And then Saturday, well you know, I’m going to see my parents.”
Tara could hear the discouragement in Willow’s voice and decided not to press the issue.
“What are you and Buffy g-going shopping for?”
“I’m not sure. She just asked if I’d go with her.”
“Well have f-fun,” Tara said. “Did you still want to h-hang out Sunday night?”
“Definitely! Just let me know when you want to meet and I’ll provide the movie.”
“Ok,” Tara said, giggling at Willow’s excitement. “Well I should get back. My mom’s yelling for me.”
“Ok,” Willow said with a laugh. “Thanks for calling though.”
“A-Absolutely. I’ll see you Sunday.”
“Bye.”
Willow hung up the phone and made her way back down the basement stairs to finish her laundry, a smile permanently attached to her face as thoughts of the blonde raced through her mind.

“Is that all you needed?” Willow asked as she and Buffy stepped out of the fourth store they’d been too, Buffy having just purchased a new little black dress.
“Kind of,” Buffy answered. “I mean, I bought the dress for this dinner thing Faith asked me to. It’s something for her work.”
“Ok. So do you need shoes or something?” Willow asked as they walked down the street.
“No, not exactly. I mean, I don’t need anything else for the dinner.”
“Ok.” Willow waited for Buffy to continue but could sense she didn’t want to say anything else. The two walked to the next store where Buffy stopped in front of the door. Willow looked up to see where they were, her eyes growing wide, her mouth dropping open. “Buffy?”
“Let’s just go in for a minute,” Buffy said, tugging Willow by the hand.
“Whoa wait! No way! Buffy I am not going in there!”
“Come on Will, please. We won’t be long. I just want to look for one thing and I can’t go in there by myself,” Buffy pouted.
“So what makes you think it’ll be better for the two of us to go in there together? I mean Buffy it’s… it’s… it’s a sex toy store!” she whispered, trying to pull away from the blonde’s grasp.
“I know Will. But please, I need your support. I don’t have the guts to go in there alone.”
“So don’t go in there!”
“I have to. I have this… one thing I want to look for… and I know I’m going to have to get it here.”
“Look online for it.”
“No, I already looked into that and I want to actually… see the product before I buy it,” Buffy said, still trying to pull the redhead inside the store. “Please? Come on, I promise it’ll be really fast. And I’ll buy you dinner afterwards.”
“That’s not much of an incentive for public humiliation Buffy!”
“Come on,” Buffy said with a laugh as she pulled the redhead into the store, the bell above the door ringing as they entered.
“Welcome to Anya’s Orgasm Hut!” yelled a perky blonde from behind the counter. “Come in, come in. I’m Anya. How can I help you ladies?”
Buffy and Willow were taken aback by the eager assault of the stores proprietor and each girl stood nervously near the door, scared to move forward.
“Were you looking for something in particular?” Anya asked as she moved around the counter and towards the two startled girls.
“Um, no it’s fine,” Buffy managed to squeak out. “We were just looking.”
“Ah, well we have a sale going on this week. You’ll see all of last season’s items marked down. You’ll find them at the back of the store. So please feel free to look around and have fun! If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask,” she said before turning away and making herself available to the rest of the customers in the store.
Buffy and Willow turned and stared at each other for a long moment before Buffy cracked a small smile and pulled Willow further into the shop.
“Hurry up ok. I want to get this over with before she decides to come back and give us a demonstration on how this stuff all works,” Willow said. Buffy just laughed.

Willow stared out the window of her parent’s kitchen, waiting for her mother to get off the phone with her aunt. She’d been there for about half an hour and after having put away the groceries she'd brought with her, had spent the time in this same spot, staring out at the window into the backyard.
‘I’m so glad I raced over here this morning to listen to her talk on the phone,’ Willow thought bitterly with a sigh.
‘Finally.’ She heard her mother say goodbye and place the phone back on the cradle. Sheila made her way back into the room, grabbing the coffee pot to refill her mug before sitting down across from her daughter at the table.
“How’s aunt Susan?”
“Fine,” Sheila answered, taking a sip of her coffee.
“Ok,” Willow said, shaking her head as she realized her mother wasn’t going to say anything more. “Well let’s go over this month’s bills.” Willow opened up her mother’s bill calendar and grabbed a calculator. “Now how much do you have left from dad’s disability check this month?”
“About four hundred dollars.”
“Four hundred! Mom, what did you guys do with the rest? We’re not even half way through the month.”
“We had something things to take care of,” her mother said, staring at her daughter with a look that said it wasn’t any of her business.
“Have you paid any of this month’s bills?”
“No. That’s why I asked you to come over today. We’re going to need your help this month.”
Willow sighed and bit the inside of her lip to keep from screaming.
‘I help you every month!’
“Ok, how much help are you talking about?”
“Well that four hundred is going to have to go towards other things, like groceries and, well just other things.” Willow stared at her mother, watching as the older woman stared out the window, sipping the hot liquid from her mug. Willow knew what those other things were. She could smell the bourbon in the cup from across the table and felt literally sick with the disgusted feelings she harbored for her mother.
“Fine, whatever. I’ll just take the bills with me and take care of it,” Willow said as she grabbed the envelopes from the calendar and stood up, fully intending to leave.
“Well why can’t you just leave the money with me?” her mother asked, finally meeting her daughters stare.
“Oh yeah, because that always works out so well,” she answered, remembering the last time she’d given her mother the money for her house payment and found out two months later that she’d spent it on something else.
“Don’t you take that tone with me young lady,” Sheila said as she stood up, ready to square off with her daughter.
“What’s going on in here?” Willow heard her father’s gruff voice from behind her and turned to see the disheveled man hobble into the kitchen, hungover, unshaven and looking like he hadn’t changed his clothes in days.
“Nothing Ira, it’s fine. Do you need something?” Sheila asked.
“No, it’s fine. I just need some aspirin,” he said as he limped towards the medicine cabinet. “What are you doing here Willow?”
“Nothing,” Willow said as she grabbed the envelopes and made her way out of the kitchen. She didn’t even bother to say goodbye.

“They finally pass out?” Faith asked as she entered the living room, smiling when she saw Tara on the couch, a niece on each side of her, both asleep.
“Yeah. It took three books but they finally gave up,” Tara said as she closed the severely worn copy of
The Poky Little Puppy. She gently stood up, leaning each girl in the opposite direction, and covered them with the blanket her mother always kept on the back of the sofa. “What’s everyone else doing?” Tara asked as she followed Faith out of the living room.
“Just sitting outside talking. I just got off the phone with Buffy and thought I’d check on you before I headed back outside.”
“Ok, well I’ll be right out. I just wanted to call Willow really quick,” Tara said with a slight blush. Faith just gave her a knowing smile and nodded before leaving the blonde alone.
Tara quickly located her purse and found Willow’s number on her recent calls list. She hit the button to dial and waited patiently for the redhead to pick up. Two rings later the familiar voice answered.
“Hello?”
“Hey Willow. How are y-you?”
“Hey Tara! It’s so good to hear your voice,” Willow said, laying back on her bed, feeling the first smile of that day come to her mouth.
“Yeah, you t-too. Are you hanging out with Buffy?”
“She just ran out to get a pizza and we’re going to hang out when she gets back.”
“Did you s-see your parents this morning?”
“Yeah,” Willow answered with a sigh, the smile immediately leaving her face.
“Are you ok?” Tara could hear the sadness in Willow’s voice and instantly wanted nothing more than to comfort the redhead.
“Yeah, sorry. I just… it’s fine. It’s no big deal. Just the same crap, different day. But it’s fine really.”
“Are you s-sure? Because I’m more than happy t-to listen if you want to talk,” Tara offered.
“I know,” Willow said with a sigh. “But really, it’s ok. So what time will you be home tomorrow?”
“Um, probably around f-four or f-five,” Tara said, allowing Willow to change the subject.
“Great, just call me when you get home and we’ll make plans then.”
“O-Ok. Goodnight Willow.”
“Goodnight.” Tara hung up and put her phone back in her purse. She looked out the window to see her family gathered around the bonfire her dad had built. Her mother was busy talking animatedly to Faith and Carly about something and on the other side of the blaze her dad and Donnie sat, undoubtedly talking about the latest sports event. She smiled at them, thankful for such an amazing family. With that she walked out to the backyard to join them.
