Now that I'm reasonably certain my fancy-schmancy pedometer is correctly calibrated, I'll just give the totals off of it:

Time: 1:15:37
Steps: 8599
K/cals: 396.3
Miles: 4.07

The Nature Center still has a lot of snow&ice on the trails . . . but Spring's comin'! :pinky

GG And the sunshine is WONDERFUL!!! :grin Out

GG - snow and ice. Tee hee. It's supposed to be 90 here tomorrow. I'll be at work most of the day but still.

I went to spin class today. Quite a good workout for strength so hard. Only 45 minutes of 375 calories because of the tension. But good.

30 on the stair for 120 flights. Then 15 on the eliptical for 1400 steps or so. I am exhausted. This working out 4 times in a 5 day span with getting up at 5:00 is so tiring.

Maxes---
Squats: 150 lbs (7 reps)
Shoulder Presses: 70 lbs (5 reps)
Calf Raises: 55 lbs (20 reps)
Bench Press: 90 lbs (6 reps: I would LOVE to get my bp to 100 lbs, but I just don't trust myself w/o a spotter! :shock)
Leg Curl: 30 lbs (10 reps)
Bicep Curl (two-armed): 65 lbs (6 reps)
Tricep Extension: 12.5 lbs (each arm, 10-11 reps)

GG Finishing w/ crunches and grip-strengtheners Out

GG - that sounds great.

I elipticaled this morning. Went an hour but I hit the reset button in the middle. I think it's reasonable to assume I went about 6200 steps and 4.40 miles for 417 calories.

Re: Pump You Up: The Fitness Thread

Postby gorn » Wed Mar 19, 2008 8:53 pm

I bought a huge weight set from a co-worker back before Christmas. Big, elaborate contraption. Mrs. Gorn paid for it, hoping I would start working out regularly at home since I wasn't going to the gym anymore. Seemed like a good bargain at the time, but it sat in bits and pieces in my garage until last week ... Mrs. Gorn said if I didn't put it together and start using it, I had to pay her back and she was going to go on a shopping spree without me.

Well, that got me up off my ass, and I spent the next three or four days assembling it ... which proved to be a workout in itself. It's all done now, looking great, everything works perfectly.

So now, after three months of stalling to the best of my ability ... I'm going out in the garage to work out. If you don't hear from me in tomorrow's It's Just Thursday, MKF! thread, you'll know I died of a heart-attack.
I spent most of my money on liquor and women,
The rest I wasted.

It was a massacre at the boxing gym.

3 minutes of burpees, push-ups, and jumping jacks. Then he threw in the mountain climbers, which upon first glance look pretty harmless, but try doing them nonstop for a minute. The kicker? Everytime someone stopped, he added 10 seconds. Fucker. I wanted to stab him.

Then we did a about 7 rounds of burnout combinations (constant punching).

- jab straight left hook
- jab jab straight
- straight hook straight
- hook to the body, hook to the head, straight
- jab straight
- hooks to the body, hooks to the head

Phew!! Good work out, but towards the end my calf cramped up. Geez, I swear I drink tons of water beforehand. Maybe I should eat bananas too. Guys got any tips to avoid cramping?

Wow. Everyone is working out so well these days.

I did the stair machine again today. I poked it up to 8 part of the way through so it was even more stairs. 60 minutes. 257 flights! 5.37 miles. 554 calories and 158 av hr which is really high.

Today was my "light" (non-squats) work-out:

Maxes---
Leg Extension: 85 lbs (10 reps)
Pec Deck: 17.5 lbs, each arm (8 reps---my PD totals always seem so low, but BELIEVE me, my Pec Deck makes ya work for it! ;-) )
Calf Raises: 45 lbs (25 reps)
Bicep Curl: 27.5 lbs. each arm (8-10 reps)
Leg Curl: 50 lbs (10 reps)
Tricep Extension: 12.5 lbs, each arm (10-12 reps: I need to up my dumbell to 15 lbs for these)
Shoulder Flies: 10 lbs (8 reps---very unimpressive. I just don't seem to get stronger on these things. At 5 lbs, though, I can do 15-20 reps. Gotta get me some 8 lb dumbells!)

GG Finishing w/ crunches (at least my crunch totals are getting higher), and grip-strengtheners, as per usual Out

I so want to get into my "skinny" jeans&shorts, for soon-coming (:pray Michigan has been HELL this winter---Frozen Hell! :devilish) warmer weather! Dammit, to get rid of this "gut", I'm gonna have to change my diet somehow... :happy

I'm doing some lifting, 10kg {22.05 more or less lb} 20 times stop 3 kg {6.6 lb} 40 times all that 10 times
Foomatic I fight too and the only thing that prevented me cramps is stretching I know it sounds dumb but done well it works
last time I went to the dojo we did 20 laps running, which is like 183 ft so no big then amdominals 250 push ups 30 then stretching then fighting

I wish I could say I had a great workout today. But the elipticals at this gym make my knee hurt lately. So I did 30 on the eliptical, then switched to that machine that kind of swings your feet, then to the treadmill. An hour all together but only 413 calories and 128 av hr. Should be able to spin tomorrow.

About half an hour of bike riding and an hour of swinging and running around on a playground with Dru.

Today's Hiking Stats:

Steps: 9525
Time: 1:16:22
Miles: 4.51
K/cals: 431.6

GG And at the Nature Center today, I heard my first Spring Peepers! :party Out

But, on a sadder front: someone dumped (apparently) the CUTEST lil orange tabby cat there. :kitty I've been making calls, trying to find him a home---but so far, no luck. :aww [GG lives in a "No Pets" apartment---plus, my finances won't permit me a pet, unfortunately :happy]

Gg - great stats. Long walk.

I elipticaled again today. I was going to spin but I couldn't sleep so I got up early so I could workout then go to work early. That didn't work out because as I was putting my clothes in the trunk, the spin instructor (who I really like a lot) came out and said, "hey, we missed you..." so we chatted, using up the early that I was running.

Still, it was very good. 60 minutes. 7800 steps. 5.14? miles. 554 calories (yesterday was 504--I looked). I don't know if the eliptical is deternining stride length or what. On the other type elipticals, 7800 steps would be closer to 6 miles. Strange. Still, very good. Tomorrow spin or step machine. (except, I left my Ipod at work, grrr!) .

Gorn - woo hoo! That's awesome.

Zooey - I love that the gyms have movies on now. It really helps.

Woa - cool.

I elipticaled today. Went an hour which was 7100 steps and 4.97 miles. 454 calories and I can't remember the av hr.

I'm considering starting Weight Watchers and wondered if anyone had any opinion/thoughts/advice on it. I haven't lost any weight in probably a year or more and I work out well and frequently but I know that I don't eat right (too much starch and cheese). My friend is very happy with Weight Watchers online and I've been talking to her about it. One drawback is that my wife is not terribly supportive and I don't know whether to even try it. I mean, do I want just one more thing for us to disagree about? That last part is rhetorical...
