puceau'' or ''
pucelle'' (virgin male/female). There was an erotic game whereby a maid would ask an equally virginal young man to track down a flea which was apparently roaming in her clothes. She would thereby gently guide him...metaphorically leading to their mutual ''
pucelage'' (first-time sexual relationship).
Or else, it could also be in relation to ''
pulcera'' in the latin context meaning ''
ma belle"
Hence the contemporary notion of ''my love'' or ''sweetie'' as Juju said.
