The wise words thread

for those random moments of wisdom, either by yourelf or someone else.
Got wise words? past em up here.
I'll start out with an old one everybody probably knows, but it's so true:

"Young women out there you must eat, you must not starve yourselves"
(all credits for this one go to the lovely miss Benson offcourse)

don't get mad, people dont listen anyway and it'll ruin your day, your mood and your heart. You get paid by the hour so if they slow you down, who cares?

(something I said myself to a man who had to clean the restrooms on Amsterdam central station, but couldn't becouse people kept pushing him aside to use the bathroom. Sounded wise to myself, hence the posting it here)

<< Running away is not the best way to escape the beast. In attempting to sneak out the back door, we are often brought face to face with another beast, this one closer to us than the first. At times, there even seems to be a beast waiting at every turn of the road and around every corner.

Better, we finally decide to take our stand. Better not to run; better to meet the creature straight-on; to understand it, even to accept it.

Then as the days go by and as we stare into the beast's eyes every morning at breakfast and every night on the bus coming home from work, we begin to suspect that this creature is not as malignant as we had supposed; that, in fact, the beast had been sent to us during this critical time of our lives to set us on a better road.>>

This is a plunge into my important souvenirs with someone special (my lil Fred). We were talking today when she quoted me on what I had told her once after the death of her brother. I think they might qualify as words of wisdom…as far as the world of grief is concerned.

First quote:

''If you abide by whatever your heart dictates on the moment, you will always make the right choice. Wrong choices do not exist; what does exist is a platform for exploring until you come across the best choice.''

Second quote:

''The person with a suicidal penchant is like the dying leaf that falls in autumn. The griever, on the other hand, is like the green leaf that detaches itself from the tree. No one can understand the pain of the green leaf. In the same way, no one can truly understand your suffering as grief is always personal. That makes your relationship with your loved one after death even more unique.''

The Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly, and listen to others,
even to the dull and ignorant;
they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
they are vexatious to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be
greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career
however humble;
it is a real possession in the
changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you
to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.
Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love,
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit
to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore, be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace in your soul.
With all its sham,
drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.
