jay, the best way to describe the topic would be general stuff about physical geography and some countries.

does that help?

you are very welcome to join in, but it won't be next week. I think once a month is more reasonable for me, it takes a while to get the questions together.

It takes a lot of effort to put a quiz together and it is fun so thanks a lot, Paint the Sky!

Q1. "Damn creature keeps flicking her tail into my coffee....". What is the outcome?

A. Cat has a wet tail

B. Boschi has hairy coffee

C. Cat is in the doghouse

D. All of the above

Boschi, what do reckon you would have got if you'd played round three?

Knock youself out wrote:It takes a lot of effort to put a quiz together and it is fun so thanks a lot,

It's been fun for me too. If it's any consolation I played the quiz putting it together and I only got 76.

We now have a clear leader going into the last round, but i'll stick to my rules and post that later on.

Thanks everyone for sticking with it

Hey kittens, Question 1 in Round Four appears to be causing confusion, and now I’ve done a bit more research I’m even more confused. :confused

The answer given was San Pedro. This is listed as the highest active volcano at this site

http://www.peakware.com/highest.html?list=highvol

It was last active, ie erupted in 1960 according this link

http://www.volcano.si.edu/world/volcano ... 1505-07%3D

Some websites give Ojos del Salado as the highest active volcano, but the dispute is in what ‘active’ is defined as. The last eruption was approx 1300 years ago.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ojos_del_Salado

The above site mentions Llullaillaco as the world’s highest active volcano having erupted in 1877.

But, if eruption is the criteria for ‘active’, then San Pedro’s eruption in 1960 would qualify it as the highest.

I’m happy to set another question in this category if any of you feel strongly enough about it.

I know if it was me I’d be arguing like hell about the definition of ‘active’, quizzes bring out my usually dormant competitive streak. :)

No-one chose San Pedro as the answer for this question, so the scores aren’t affected by it if that helps you to be less anal than I would be ;-)

Quiz update. Just waiting on ktv and jay, at this point there is tie for first place, so it looks like I'll have to get a tiebreaker ready.

I'm up to my knees in school so I kinda didn't have much time to answer the questions or actually come onto the kitten board.

Correct/or nearest to the year wins. PM the answer. Thanks.

Re: The Kitten Pub Quiz Final Placings

Postby Paint the Sky » Sat May 24, 2008 4:14 am

Hey guys i have recieved answers from both masterjendu and umgaynow.

masterjendu said that the answer is 1912

umgaynow said that the answer is 1891

The winner is ((drum roll))..........
masterjendu!!

The correct answer to the tiebreak question was 1913.

The first known published crossword puzzle was created by a journalist named Arthur Wynne from Liverpool, and he is usually credited as the inventor of the popular word game. December 21, 1913 was the date and it appeared in a Sunday newspaper, the New York World.
sources: http://www.crosswordtournament.com/more/wynne.html
http://thinks.com/crosswords/first1.htm
http://inventors.about.com/od/cstartinv ... ssword.htm

It's a shame there is no prize for the winner. A kitten pub quiz winner avatar would be fun, it could passed on to the next winner for the duration of their title.

Hey guys, for all of you who covet a 'Foovatar' (see what i did there? :party ) of they're very own, I've started to put the next quiz together.

I'm going to follow the same format cos it seemed to work ok, but if you have any objections to that please feel free to suggest where it can be improved.

I think everyone enjoyed it, didn't they?

Congratulations to Jen, who scooped the prize with a mighty fine guess in the tiebreaker.

The next quiz will start on Sunday 15th June, so those of you out for revenge can start swotting up ;-)

A big, big thank you to all who took part, I hope you'll do it again, and to those who watched from the sidelines, come ahead and pit your wits next time.

Rach, it would be great if you could join in, fizzling internet notwithstanding!

Questions are posted at 11pm GMT every night for 5 nights, so the timetable would be:

Sunday 15th – Round One Literature

Monday 16th – Round Two – Entertainment

Tuesday 17th – Round Three – General Knowledge/Trivia

Wednesday 18th – Round Four – Earth Science

Thursday 19th – Round Five – History

Each round is open for 24 hours.

Answers are submitted by PM before 11pm GMT next day when the next round is posted.

Depending on where you are I’m 7-10 hours ahead of you so your internet just might hold out.
