It's strange, because I'm sure Buffy is just trying to look out for her friend. However her efforts are coming across more as meddling. At some point she has to trust Willow to decide what is best for her life.

The mob ties were completely unexpected, but an interesting twist to this story. Perhaps it's just my fondness for Tara, but I can't help believing she has a reasonable explanation for everything. Glad Willow is coming to the same conclusion.

This continues to be a great story. Looking forward to more.

Hmm, I business trip... not sure what to make of that. Although I'm trying to comply with Willow's trust of Tara, I'm not sure how I feel about her at the moment. I sort of feel bad for Buffy because I know she's only trying to help and doesn't want to see Willow get hurt. But I feel much worse for Willow because I can see this story sort of setting up for a fall... although I could be totaly misreading it.

I thought Willow's loyalty to Tara was very nice and realistic. Even considering Willow's tortured emotional past, you would pretty much be a behavioral anomaly to not immediately side with the person you're in love with, at least in my humble opinion. I'm glad Willow has come so far, I really hope that Tara doesn't set her up for a fall.

Thinking isn’t real, feeling is.

Well put.
She made herself some coffee and went out to get the newspaper. She wasn’t sure why she got the newspaper, she never read it and usually it ended up in the trash.

Haha, I am like that too.
God, Buffy is annoying. She should research better before she confronts someone with semi-real information. But of course it was a good way to get Willow to confess her love.
Cant wait for the entire truth! Wish Tara would have asked Willow to come with and that she didnt makes me feel uneasy.

Well it has finally come to the end. I am really really bad about not finishing my stories, hopefully this will suffice.

I have another story going so if you enjoy my abhorrent writing style, keep an eye out for another one soon.

Thanks everyone for the great feedback, I probably wouldn't have finished this if it wasn't for ya'll.

Chapter 13

Willow was actually happy that Tara was away, she missed her, but given three days to reflect on everything that has happened was just what she needed. She thought about her relationship with Buffy. Since Buffy’s return their relationship had been anything but comfortable. Subconsciously Buffy was trying to make amends with her, and she pushed that away. There was a distance between them they hadn’t experienced before, and Buffy tried to make up for it, by trying to control the situation, and Willow had allowed it. Even with Buffy’s controlling nature and the hurt that Willow felt when she left, Willow thought it was time to forgive and move on. They had still remained friends after all these years, so there was something to be said for that. Willow sat in her office and contemplated how to bring this up and what she might say when she heard a knock on her door. Figures, that would just be like Buffy, every time I’m thinking about her she shows up. Willow thought as she requested entrance by the knocker.

It wasn’t Buffy, but Michelle with an envelope. “This just came via currier.”

Willow stood and made her way across the room to grab the envelope from Michelle.

“Thanks. Oh and leave the door open.” Willow said as an afterthought. Willow tore open the envelope to release a small piece of paper with nothing on it but an address. Willow smiled remembering the piece of paper Anya had given her with Tara’s address on it. She noticed the address, some town in the mountains, she had visited the town a few times and really enjoyed it. Willow caught movement out of the corner of her eye and noticed Buffy passing buy.

“Hey Buffy! You have a minute?”

“Sure, never to busy for the boss.”

Willow smiled. “Have a seat.” Buffy sat on the end of the leather couch, Willow idly wondered why she had Tara hadn’t used the couch and instead she was fucked on top of her desk. She shook the sexy thoughts from her head and sat on the opposite end of the couch. “I’ve been thinking while Tara was away.” She glanced at Buffy expecting a remark about the mafia. She got none so continued. “Since you came back, our relationship hasn’t been the same. You know that, and I know you are sorry, and I need to say I’m sorry too. I grew while you were away, learned I could do things on my own. When you came back, I guess we tried so hard to rebuild what we once had, but we can never go back there. I’m really hurt that you can’t trust me enough in my own relationship.”

“I just didn’t want you to get hurt.”

“I know, but you hurt me Buffy. We are still growing and learning and making mistakes, that’s what life is all about. Even after all we’ve been through, we’re still here. I wanted to say I’m sorry for not forgiving you sooner, I’m sorry I held this sense of abandonment for so long. You really are a true friend, and I see that now.”

“Oh Willow I’m so sorry for everything.” Buffy said with tears in her eyes as she reached across the couch and engulfed Willow in a huge hug. Both women shed some tears in the others embrace. “So I hope everything is ok with you and Tara. I really mean that.”

“Yeah, I hope so too. I really do love her, for the first time in my life I’m ecstatic. Speaking of that, I’m taking a few days off to go to the mountains with Tara, think you can handle this place?”

“You know I can.” Buffy smiled and stood up from the couch. “When are you leaving?”

“Pretty much now.”

Willow drove the windy road that lead into the mountain town. She crested over the mountain and had a look at the town as it sat in the valley. It took a little less than an hour to get there from Willow’s house. As she drove down the hill side and into the town streets she remembered the last time she came up here. Oz had a gig somewhere and she needed to get away. She rented a small cabin off the river and stayed for 2 nights, she remembered feeling very alone, she remembered thinking that she always felt like that, she had just never put a name on it.

She turned onto the street directed by the printed map and checked the housing numbers. The street was lined with huge houses. Property so big you couldn’t even see half of the houses from the front gates. She found the house number and pulled into the drive, an iron gate opened for her, and she drove the windy white stone path up to the house. The house was amazing, Willow thought she had a big house, but this was truly exquisite. The grounds were also well maintained, with flowers and fruit trees everywhere. Willow parked her car and was just getting out when she saw Tara appear at the front doors. Willow couldn’t contain her smile, she was confused and a little apprehensive, but at the sight of the blond everything seemed to fade into the distance.

Willow watched as Tara bounded down the steps and into her arms.

“Hi my love.” Tara said quickly before pushing Willow back against her car and kissing her. Willow felt Tara’s tongue slip quickly into her mouth and Willow brought her hands up to entwine in Tara’s hair. Everything about this woman screamed sensuality, and Willow felt her pulse quicken and excitement run through her veins. It seemed as though the three days with out Tara had awoken something inside her. Tara also seemed different too. The way she kissed her and held her, was something totally new to Willow and she was enjoying every minute until Tara pulled away. “I missed you.”

“Yeah, um…me too, the missing you part.” Willow managed to speak.

“I know I have a lot of explaining to do, but let’s go inside.” Willow felt her hand interlace with Tara’s as she followed the beauty inside the house.

The interior of the house was immaculate. Granite floor of the foyer gave way to dark hardwood as Tara lead them to the sitting room. Tara gestured toward a chair and Willow took a seat.

“So I suppose I have some explaining to do.” Tara grinned.

“Ya Think?” Willow retorted, but grinned as well. Since coming to the conclusion she was head over heals in love with the blond, she couldn’t keep the grin off her face.

“Well I guess I should start from the beginning. Both of my parents were CIA agents. I definitely didn’t live in the typical household growing up. I spent more time with relatives than my own parents. Around 1989 mom was sent somewhere in the Middle East. She never returned.” Willow watched as she was Tara’s features darken, maybe for the first time.

“Dad freaked out. Because of their jobs they had limited information on each other’s missions. The government wouldn’t tell Dad what happened or give him any type of information. I assume she was kidnapped and executed, but her body was never found.” Willow continued to watch as Tara’s face remained impassive throughout her story.

“Dad made several trips out there, and I assume he had found nothing. He never told me anything about his trips. Dad kept working for the CIA until 2004. As I got older I began to realize he no longer trusted the people he worked for. At first I just thought the job was getting to him, but then he began to make comments that the government had killed mom. I thought he was loosing it at that point. He was then sent to South Africa to gain some intelligence for the C.I.A. Unfortunately he was killed in some friendly fire. I am told a stray bullet killed him.” Tara paused and Willow remained silent. “After the funeral the government started sending me money for his death. Some type of thing they do when one of their own is killed. I didn’t think anything of it until a few months later I received a call from Sergio.” Willow perked up at the mention of Sergio’s name. Maybe Buffy was right, everything Tara said was what Buffy had told her. She felt her heart begin to speed up, and her hands suddenly felt clammy. “Sergio said that my dad had contacted him a few years before his death. It seemed like Sergio was trying to help dad find mom. Sergio had connections and could help dad keep his investigation from the C.I.A. Sergio said dad had found something out about the government and that was why he was killed.” Tara laughed. “At first I didn’t believe him, I mean come on, do you believe it?”

“It does seem like something out of a movie.” Willow spoke for the first time in a long while, her mouth felt dry. Tara seemed to sense this, as she did with everything that came to Willow.

“Let me get us a drink.” She said, standing and making her way to a bar on the other side of the room. “Sergio wanted to meet with me in person, he said he couldn’t talk over the phone. I was a little skeptical, but what did I have left to lose. Both parents were gone, I had no one, nothing that mattered to me anymore.” Tara returned and handed Willow a drink, which she enthusiastically took and felt the cool liquor run down her throat and warm her stomach. She felt more at ease as their hands briefly touched during the drink exchange. “I met Sergio at the library. He is one huge dude, but underneath he is a sweetie. He told me on one of dad’s trips to Iran he found out the government was stealing money. They would set up a fake oil company, claiming that they would make x amount of profit off the oil, etc, but they never actually did anything. They took the money then would fake a raid or a bomb and blame it on terrorism. There is a lot more too it I’m sure, but that was all he told me. He said dad found out all of this and was infuriated. Sergio said dad thought mom knew of it too and that was why she was ‘taken care of’ those are his words not mine. Apparently dad decided he was going to show the government and he staged his own plan to steal the money the government was stealing. Dad did pretty well, until they found out about him and had him killed. Dad took the money and put it into a fake business in the U.S, a front as I believe it is called. Dad told Sergio if anything ever happened he wanted the money to go to me. Sergio said a lot needed to be done before I could get the money, some type of thing to keep the government from knowing or having to pay taxes on it. I’m not sure of the details, but Sergio said it would be a few years before I could get the money. That was fine with me, I didn’t really want it anyway. I guess it’s kind of Dad’s last F-U to the government.” Tara looked over at Willow. “How are you doing with all this?”

Willow looked back at Tara, her face was a mixture of fear and apprehension. It was odd to see Tara look scared she had rarely seen that and not to this degree. “It’s really odd.” Willow didn’t know what else to say. “So this house, you bought it with stolen money?”

“Well not really, it was dad’s money and now it’s mine. Yes, dad did steal it from the government, who stole it from the American people, but I don’t know, I’m kind of ok with it. I mean they did kill both my parents so I still think I got the shitty end of the deal.”

“Yeah I suppose, but what about the art gallery and Mimi.” Willow winced when she brought up the other woman.

“Well the gallery was going bankrupt. I had sold some pieces there and saw it was heading down hill. I had talked to Anya before and she said the owner was driving it into the ground. I made an offer on the place and they sold it to me. I could keep it a float with the money Sergio was giving me, but I wanted to give it to Anya. I couldn’t just give her a failing art gallery, so I tried to get Mimi to give us a grant. Turns out that fell through.” Willow caught a gleam in Tara’s eye as she said that. Willow smiled thinking of the art Mimi would never see. “Now that I have the money I can put some into the gallery then sell it to Anya. She is really good with business, I expect she can make something out of it. I never really cared about the money, that’s why I let locals exhibit there. I remember when I was in their shoes, no one would let me show my art, so I figure I want to spend money helping give back to the community.”

“And have a gigantic killer house.” Willow couldn’t resist teasing Tara.

“You are right. As much as I want to give the money back to the American people, I really have always wanted a huge house. Would you like a tour?”

“Sure.” Willow said standing up. She still had so many questions, but she couldn’t think of a single one at that moment. She placed her drink on the table and Tara grabbed her hand and intertwined their fingers. Willow sighed at the contact, even with all the weirdness of Tara’s past, she still loved the woman more than she could imagine.

Tara led Willow through the downstairs first, it really was impressive. The kitchen was huge, with stainless steel appliances, a hanging rack for pots and pans, and a double oven. The kitchen looked out onto the back yard, where the fence was lined with huge trees and not a single house was visible from it. Tara showed Willow the basement, which had been redone into a huge theater. Tara brought Willow up to the upper level of the house and showed her a room with nothing in it. Tara stood in the middle of the room while Willow looked around. It was big, like everything in the house, but Willow was confused as to why there was nothing in it. She looked questioningly at Tara.

“Well I was thinking, if you wanted, this could be your office.” Tara said a little uncertain of herself.

Willow wasn’t sure she was hearing this right and so said nothing.

“I mean, I know we haven’t been ‘dating’, god I hate that word, for very long, but Willow.” Tara said walking toward Willow and grabbing both hands in her own. “I know I want to spend the rest of my life with you, I know I love you, and that’s never going to change. I want you to move in with me. You don’t have to answer now just…” She was stopped by Willow’s lips on her own.

“Yes, yes I will move in with you. I love you Tara. I don’t know what’s going to happen in the future, but I can guarantee you I will love you until the day I die.” With that Willow’s lips found those of her soul mate.

Wow.

This is kind of an overwhelming update, but you wrap things up very nicely. I am so glad Tara isn't tied up with the mob. It is so sad about her parents though.

Poor thing. Money doesn't mean anything when both parents are gone.
